Why You SHOULDN'T Buy a TWIN TAIL Skateboard!!

- Twin Tail Skateboards have been sent back into the mainstream thanks to Ishod wair, Jamie Foy and a few others. Twin Tail Skateboards are all I ride but there are some reasons why you might not like a twin tail skateboard! Twin tail skateboards have the same kick on both sides so with twin tail skateboards you are always popping off a nose or flicking off a tail or something in between. Either way Twin Tail Skateboards aren't for everyone.
I don't think I'd be able to skate a symmetrical board, I always have to know "this is my tail" like just a madness thing haha but that's just me.
I ride symmetrical for the first time im still looking which way is the one i used for my pop. lol
@@carl2614 that’s the point of the board tho so that way it doesn’t matter😂
Yeah the point is for you to get used to throwing your board down and not having to worry about nose or tail
@@axxelgannon9146 when I was better at skating and much before symmetrical boards or shaped boards were so popular I preferred popping off the nose for nollie tricks.
@@poulsentyler and thats fine that means mentally you wouldn’t want that freedom you prefer having a distinction between the two
i hated the idea of twin tails with a passion but then i ordered one on accident and fell in love with the symmetrical feeling. i immediately bought a duplicate of the board i didn't think i'd like so i could have another when it wears out.
What brand?
@@Gameboy-Unboxings it was an almost youness 8.3 space rings deck. i've skated like four of that deck since then and i buy them as often as i can when i see them on sale. almost made a lot of them during the pandemic and lots of shops still have that shape laying around in discount bins.
I have three twin tails in my car at all times. 8.5, 8.75, and 9.1. Love them.
Where can I find size 8.5+ twin tails
@@ohpeep3723chocolate, real, girl, all good brands for larger symmetrical
Another disadvantage the was mentioned on The Nine Club was that think of skateboard like a pocket knife. Would you rather have two different blades that allowed you to accomplish different tasks or two of the same blade that accomplish’s the same tasks? On a traditional board, the nose is steeper and longer than the tail. This allows you to pop higher for taller obstacles or a longer time to pop for large gaps. I guess it all comes down to your skating style or the things you like to skate!
man ive just realized ive been riding my board backwards the entire time its been a year
I feel like I would need a normal nose it helps with Nollie tre flips and nollie lasers i get that extra scoop without having to use all my strength to get the rotation.
I tried to go back to skating a regular shaped board but I couldn't really get used to skating the giant nose on a Toy Machine deck and I wanted to skate the deck like a twin. It's much more freeing not caring which way the board is facing. I'll probably get another Chocolate or Girl twin tail deck.
What girl shape is symetrical?
@@localjoe It's Crob's shape, the G069. Malto skates it now. If you're looking for a twin with fuller tails the Habitat Apex Twin is good.
@@DAVAND23does girl or chocolate make an 8.0 twin tail?
Definitely getting a twin tail once my current board breaks. Trying to go up in size too. Getting a whole new set up so I can donate my old trucks to my nephew.
Really dig your channel, been here since the start. The twin tail is more like a twin tale… in prof Schmidt’s 9club he points out that the molds are not symmetrical .. so even though it’s marketed as totally symmetrical they never are. He also points out the reasons for a different nose/tail and says it’s like a Swiss Army knife, use the nose if you want quicker pop/finesse and use the tail for more explosive pop
@J Idk for some tricks like switch front shove, its easier to use the nose but all personal preference
Last point is exactly what I was most concerned about. I've tried switching around trucks with new bushings and it was awkward af. I've always been curious and like trying new stuff but tbh I don't see the benefit for me, at my level of consistency/lack of switch game, of not having to think about what direction my board is.
That's fair
That flat bar looks SICK! Great video as always, homie
Technically not a twin tail, but Neen Williams also helped set the symmetrical shaped boards 'trend' with his twin nose
True I feel like he was doing it for a while but Ishod gets more clicks than Neen
Bro when I first found your channel I remember when you would always skate that parking lot
I know felt nostalgic
i love how he said "Most skaters are poor" ahah great twin tail review!
Does this work good on a standard deck? Or is it just more effective to skate a standard deck the normal way (popping off the tail and landing on the nose). And also i have thought if you like doing griptape art (like i do) one side will look different than the other and that way you will still skate it like a normal board.
My first board was a twin tail without realizing it and now “normal” boards don’t feel normal but still can ride it after at least 30mins of skating
Haha when I was a kid I thought they were all symmetrical but I'd always trip out and have to skate it one direction anyways... I was so confused haha cause it did have a nose but I couldn't tell but still kept track which side was which
im thinking of getting a twin since i havent skated in about 9 years so getting back on a board no matter the shape is gonna take some getting used to again.
Would love to try one but supply is also a big issue for me - I’m worried I’m gonna love it too much and not be able to get twin tails where I am consistently….
So other it online. Problem solved. I didn't even think about going to my local shop to get one. I'm just going to order one online.
Support your local skate shop they are on the endangered retailers list
@@mr.thammisses6119 i feel ya, some shops make things hard to get at times… i like going there to get things in a pinch tho
Very valid point with new bushings, and pivot cups or even new trucks for the twin tails.
Props for the 5.0
That shit is scary as fuck
Honestly, 5-0’s in general are a lot harder on a round rail, I’m super comfortable with that trick, but I struggle on a round rail
I skate my board the same even if it’s not a Twin tail
loved this vid so much bro youre hella underrated! the structure of the video reminded me of john hills videos
I skate my regular boards backwards. Is this everything I've ever needed??
Congrats on the front 5'O bro! something I want to work on soon if only I would skate rails more often lol, but your vids genuinely hype me up to go film a sesh!
Also I copped the Ishod T Tail and so far it's hands down my favorite shape. I'll be dropping my review soon
Seeing you lock into heel side 50's Id like to see a video of you talking about your feel on cross lock vs heel side.
thank Vision and also Mike Vallely for this trend finally coming to life...20 plus years later..but still
I just bought a twin tail, i thought it would be good for me as a beginner, especially since really all i can do is practice ollies. I have a regular element deck that i have been using that is a standard shape. Do you guys think that is a wise choice on my part, or should i hold off on using that board for a while until i'm more established?
The glider feels like a twin nose compared to ishods.
I'm really digging it. Just wish the brand was more exciting
Did you get the 8.5 or 8.25? Because I thought the same thing about the 8.5 I have but I asked the owner and he says the molds are the same so I must be trippin.
@@localjoe I have the 8.0. Grew up on 7.5s
Good views, I totally agree but as long as the tail is NOT too short, a 5 cm. difference is fine for me. I found it HARD to get a 8 90 " tail. Regards!
I've always skated my rear truck significantly tighter than the front so I don't know how a twin tail would work for me
Not about the twin tail but what do you put on the base of your rail. Is it rubber strips?
Been skating for 10 years and I have always had my board turn to the left far too much, because I only skate regular and skate with my tail infront. I want to buy a twin tail for 1. My board will feel the same regardless of which tail I skate with. 2. It will last me longer and I will get more out of my money. 3. I won't have to think about my nose or my tail after I do a bigspin or a fs pop shove-it.
I am curious to see how not having my tail and nose different will effect me. I am worried that the tail will feel like a nose or the nose will feel like a tail. That's a major possible disadvantage for 3 big advantages. I am willing to try it out.
never tried one, u should try them but not sure.
can u do a varial flip tutorial and common mistakes tho?
Idk if I'm Good enough at them to really be giving advice haha
I like your videos! I was wondering what your flat bar dimensions are? I’d like to build one 👍🏼
i want a symmetrical board so bad cause i always am thinking i want it that way and i never even know when i’m on the right side for popping or whatever
I KNEW THERE WAS A SUCH A DIFFERENT FEELING WHEN I FIRST USED ONE. OH MY....
Snapped the tail on my last board, and I tried skating off the nose, but I couldn't slide my foot properly on the short tail, I feel like I need the big fat nose to have enough space
Would be cool to see your take on Thunder vs Independent. Althought you seem to be a Thunder guy
Yeah idk if i've skated enough trucks to have a really informed opinion but I do like how my thunders pinch a lot!
Back at a parking lot! Missed it ;-)
Haha I know it felt nostalgic
I’d absolutely skate a twin tail. But I’m less likely to because the brands I prefer, Enjoi, Darkstar, Zero and Madness to the best of my knowledge don’t make any. I find that I like the stiffness of these boards when made with Resin-7 and what little experience I’ve had with other boards just hasn’t been as good.
Also Joe you must be starting to get proper fit. Your face is looking slimmed down. Looking good, friend!
Fair enough! Thanks man my gf says the same thing but idk I feel the same haha
I would literally never try a front 5-0 on a round rail, maybe a back 5-0 haha
I’ve done backside once before and it was so chill compared to frony
Both are sketchy😄
Honestly these are some good tips
Thanks G!
I just came back to skating and got a girl twin tail sean malto is pretty good but still may switch back to regular boards
Number one con… not enough companies making them yet
I'd never skate anything else now. I ❤ them.
Actually, I want to buy a TWIN NOSE. The Deathwish Neen Williams is the only one I found.
I like shaped boards, so no Twin-Tails for me. Pretty easy to distinguish nose from tail with shaped boards.
Try the symmetrical egg by Heroin. The double shovel is a good model too.
Only bad thing about twin tails for me is bushing madness even tough I skate the board both ways the same amount
Do you have any tips for coming out of a 50-50. I always just fall off the end, especially when im cross locked. How do I keep my foot on the tail to lift up towards the end?
Also Im goofy footed and cross locking the opposite way. Have you ever experienced that lol?
Did you figure it out?
@@gregorsamsa1364 Nope lol. Learned some other tricks tho
When you're cross locking a 50-50 you have to pop out of it at the end because you won't be balanced once you lift your front off. If you were to lock in with your heels all you have to do is pick up on the front foot and ride off the rail like riding off curb. So for heel lock drop out and for cross lock pop out. I hope this helps
I went to twin nose bc I could always land my tricks better with the board switched for some reason
I've never felt the difference between the tail and the nose so to me its just whatever
I skate them now. I throw my board on the ground and it’s good to go either way…. One less thing to think about in life.
I would NEVER be able to ride these, as my feet need to use a big end/little end for specific tricks...
Many tricks, such as a pop shuvit will always feel better popping using the nose as the tail...
Every switch trick...
The list goes on. I need a nose and tail, as they serve very specific purposes for me, even if the viewer can't see the difference.
I just recently set up a new complete with the Chris Robert’s twin paddle deck. I’m skating it along side a regular non-twin deck and I’ll admit, I’m kinda enjoying skating where I’m not thinking of which is the nose and which is the tail. I just wish the Robert’s twin deck came in an 8 with the 14” wheelbase.
I got his deck but couldn't deal with how long the kicks felt
Yessss im hoping for an 8.0 too!
hey man i would love to know if you would skate the Nike sb force 58's again
If deodorant works as skate wax, does skate wax work as deodorant?
😂👌🏼
I'm going to buy one of ishods twin tails after I break my Santa Cruz.
most likely just new bushings not whole trucks
What do you prefer bro
Oh twin tails all day
I had a glider deck not long ago and really liked it
Thanks bro so good video
Rail Grind ASMR
Can you 5050 rails JD? My baby rail is perfect to learn on
@@localjoe Yes I can do it but i'm just not COMFORTABLE doing them. But if I had to, yes I can.
I like twin nose. And you keep saying flat bar why?
masaalahnya ang ni nob. bila position swicth nose jadi panjang so more confident lah nak try nose trick. truck still same.
Please link me to nine inch wide twin tail symmetrical decks
This is not good or bad but, twin tail riders like Ishod and Jamie. Ride LOOSE trucks, maybe not daewon loose but loose enough.
Twin tails feel really good with looser trucks.
Its that loose flow it just hits different
awsome vid i will not buy a twin tail ever now thanks
I don’t think you should be buying trash brands twin tails is why @local joe
You skate glider boards then? What did you think of the shape?
will the king reply?🥺👑
Who you talking about?
@@localjoe ayeeeee of course its you sir!🤜🏻🤛🏻
@@BukanTed Haha to nice my G! Appreciate the love!
Bro buy gulf wax lmao.
symmetrical decks are for intellectuals
I just ate it on a front 5 0 last Friday. Had to get a giant hematoma drained last night cause of it. Funny thing is I landed like 5 before I fell. Just got to comfortable.
One of the things I struggled with with the real twin tail was popping nollie/ switch it just threw me off pop wise. The flick is there but the pop was just so low it definitely would take a couple decks to get use to popping nollie/ switch imo
Seeing the ishod clips maybe it’s more so having to pop off the tip of the tail to get a solid pop maybe I’ll try another twin tail in the future
Hell yea firstttttttttt
Most skaters are poor? Haha 🤣 haha this is a sad fact
