You definitely know your way around the metal shop, and your craftsmanship appears impeccable. An LED light bar and you’ll be set. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the kind comment! We are moving in a new home this summer and i will have a huge garage. I'm getting a milling machine, plasma cutter, 4' metao brake, tube bender, etc. I used to work as a sheet metal fabricator for 5 years.
Thanks, i used to be a sheet metal fabricator for a couple years. I also did a lot of machining while in the navy as a mechanic. I'm still settling in my new house (1200km away from where i used to live), but I plan on building a powder coating oven, getting a tube bender and a sanblasting cabinet. I'll get a lot more fab done then :)
Awesome job, I just got a new RK37 with a grapple and am definitely going to be doing this to my brush guard. I really like the way you designed yours, think I might have to steal your idea if ya don't mind?
Thanks! And of course, borrow the idea, that's why i posted it :) i couldn't find something i really liked but borrowed ideas from about 10 different grills. Enjoy the new tractor!!
The perforated metal is only 16 gauge. The frame around it is 3/16" thick. I added the reinforcement in the center because i knew the grill isn't super thick. They also sell it thicker, like 1/16" and 1/8". I'm from Nova Scotia so i bought it Metals'R'us but any metal supplier would have something similar.
The flat bar was only 1/8" thick, and 1" wide. It's pretty easy to roll it when the radius is that big by just pressing on the flat bar downwards while it's on the edge of a work bench. If it was 1/4" thick, it would be pretty hard to bend though.
@@jonathanlemire2797 I have the same setup but don't always have the ROPS up. I'm working on something similar to this and haven't decided yet if I want to leave the upper part open or cover the headlights and build in a mount for a small recessed light bar.
@president dale parks makes sense. I just got a canopy for it so i knew my ROPS would most likely stay up all the time. I might install a light bar at some point on the hood or something.

Fine looking guard
Thanks!!
Great idea and premo fab work.

What size expanded metal is used
I can't remember to be honest. The local metal store had a couple different sizes of extruded metal.
What gauge metal did you use on your perforated grill and where did you get the sheet of perforated steel.

How did you roll the flatware to match the curve of the oem grill gaurd?

Looks good. Are the headlights still usable?
Yes. But let's be honest, the headlights on them absolutely suck. I have LED lights mounted on the ROPS.

Hood still open
