Ok, upfront, this game is better than anything I have ever put up in the Henri IV. So, obviously, my view isn't worth very much. That said, I enjoy Henri IV because it's different. It actually feels like a heavy cruiser rather than a small battleship. I find it's really good at dealing with other cruisers. It has the mobility, armor, and DPM to deal with things like Alaska and Stalingrad. On the build, I don't have AL St. Louis, but I'm not sure I would use her here. I went with Roux to help with traverse and mobility, which are the big problems with this ship, imo. Ingenious, Full Speed Ahead, Go All Out, Rudder Shift in the fourth row, Fully Packed. I think I did Mimbelli and Mikawa, but it may be Mikawa and Kuznetsov. For the ship, Aiming Systems, Prop Mod, Concealment Mod, and either reload mod or range mod. I use this to flank early. Go All Out particularly allows you to use the extra concealment to get into wide positions fast. The AP is very strong. It's consistent with all the other French ships in that way. So, while the HE has extra pen and good fire chance, the AP will slap people. Flank, get broadsides, start a fire or two and then switch to AP. That's the basic game plan for me. You're absolutely right that it's a clunky ship. It's not flexible. Especially if you take MBRB instead of sonar, because then you have to start avoiding destroyers. The fact that it's clunky and not flexible is part of what makes it interesting to me. In a lot of ways, it's similar to Charlemagne, which is a misunderstood ship.
Am I sleeping on the AP? Is my aim bad? Wrong build? Or was I just very unlucky with the fire chance this round? Would love to hear what people think of Henri
I put in another comment, but I do think you should have fired AP at that Alaska earlier. Like all French ships, the AP is stronger than other nations. You might have gotten screwed on the fire chance. RNG, maybe, but you had 15 fires, which is pretty good.
Yeah if you catch people broadside, load the AP and you slap. It’s definitely not the strongest L tier cruiser though and have been deleted a couple of times when I’ve been caught broadside
Like everyone said, do not sleep on the AP with French cruisers. It's a hidden gem and SLAPS. also maybe use some of those 3 engine boosts sometimes? 😂
A combination PG, not bad aim just rng. Build in to reload, AP damage, and speed, forget detection. You see how tanky it is? If that was St Louis you’re dead. Speed boost gives you 43-45 knots, plus angling you become very hard to kill. AP 240mm slaps hard on broad sides and upper belt bb’s, also it murders cruisers. I use AP mainly and bow in ships HE. I personally love the ship. I run lemonier, Mimbelli, Einstein (for turret traverse) with reload mod. Also dress her properly and use the historical camo ffs 🤣
Watching American ships HE spam 🤢🤢🤢. That Maine coulda nuked you if he were using AP and more than half a braincell. This goes for the Alaska as well like cmon guys.
I’m halfway done with the Midway and the next ship I might do is the Napoli or maybe the Bourgogne and I’m curious has anyone used the Napoli and if so how does it perform and what’s the best way to play it. As for the Henri I’d use the AP, French AP or as I like to call them French Magic Bullets performs well.
Napoli should be played more passively than other super heavy cruisers at the tier because it doesn’t have as big guns and has great concealment. It’s good at running down bbs at close range but doesn’t offer much in the way of killing dds.I think it’s a really good ship if u have spotting
It doesn't have SAP, nor the speed of other Italian cruisers, but the exhaust smoke is always good, either to push, or get in'n'out of positions. It does have some secondaries, but I haven't spec'ed for them.

French HE in general is trolly for me but you should really give that AP a shot it hits really hard.

Not bad considering you had zero help on your side...
His teammates were on the cap. One of his BBs killed the DD on this side, another smashed the GK. They helped more than some teams do!
i come here to say hi
