    ESSEX, MASSACHUSETTS: Welcome to Essex, Massachusetts, home to Woodman’s, where they invented the New England style deep fried clam! During our trip to New England we were not going to miss this opportunity to eat the king of deep fried seafood, and we got a gigantic $284.75 Fisherman’s Platter!
    Friends in the video:
    🔹 Follow Jeffrey Merrihue: / jeffrey_merrihue - Stop by at Heroic Italian (g.page/heroicitalian?share) in Santa Monica and say Hi to Jeffrey!
    Woodman's of Essex (g.page/woodmansofessex?share) Total price - $284.75 - We arrived to Woodman's of Essex, ready to devour some deep fried seafood. As the true story goes, back in 1916 Lawrence "Chubby" Woodman and his wife Bessie had a cart and sold fresh clams and deep fried potato chips. One day one of his fisherman friends told him to deep fry some clams in the potato chip oil. It was almost a joke - they said it was something humorous, but after trying it, they realized they might be onto something. They invented and popularized the fried clam. To this day, the original fried clam is available at Woodman's of Essex and it’s as good as it’s ever been.
    At Woodman’s they also have a host of other deep fried seafood, including clam strips, scallops, shrimp, and fish, plus onion rings and fries. We decided to order a huge fisherman’s platter, including a mix of everything piled high onto Jeffrey’s lobster tray.
    While all the seafood at Woodman's of Essex is delicious and remarkably deep fried and crispy, still nothing beats the deep fried clams - the original deep fried clams.
    Kelly's Roast Beef (goo.gl/maps/9fiUWiJMWFYnz4Y98) Price - $14.02 meal combo - next up on this mini tour, just down the Massachusetts coast I stopped at Kelly's Roast Beef, legendary for their roast beef sandwich. It was every bit as good as I was hoping it to be and everything it needed to be. Don’t miss it when you visit Massachusetts!

      Who doesn’t change for fame? His whole personality changed when he started becoming popular. Watch his first videos. No exaggerated “yummy face”, never use to smile and actually gave his honest opinions on food (he would say if he didn’t like something).

Was watching a completely unrelated video when this popped up in the suggestion box. So many good memories. Had no idea about the history of the place until now which makes those memories even better! I'm really craving those fried clams now.

      @@JP1NYC 😂😂

    • @anasandoval6698
      @anasandoval6698 2 года назад +5

      @@JP1NYC the gallbladder is an organ found by the liver that connects to the liver and pancreas via ducts (think of it like a balloon bellow the liver that can inflate and deflate as needed). It helps the liver produce and store bile (a type of acidic acid) that turns fat into fatty acids that your body can digest and absorb. Overconsumption of fatty foods such as fried foods can cause an accumulation of cholesterol in the body and in the gallbladder. If the gallbladder can't break these fats quickly they turn into gallstones (think of these as stones of various shapes and sizes that cannot be digested by your body nor escape the gallbladder, they just keep accumulating). You then essentially have a balloon (the gallbladder) full of them that will overtime get bigger and accumulate. They don't go anywhere, they just stay in this balloon. Since the balloon can no longer deflate and inflate as it used to because now they always have stones inside, if the stones are large enough they can block the duct to the pancreas and liver limiting the amount of bile that is excreted to these organs. This is not a good thing as you can experience severe discomfort and referred pain; meaning the right side of your upper belly won't be hurting but instead you'll feel pain and discomfort on your right shoulder/scapula for no apparent reason (that's referred pain). Worst case scenario, the gallbladder bursts inside your body spilling bile into your abdominal cavity which can lead to sepsis (blood poisoning) and if left untreated it can kill you. If the gallbladder is removed through surgery or laparoscopy you can 100% live without it, but you cannot consume fried foods in such big quantities (such as in this video) as you'll feel extremely grossed out, you'll feel like you need to puke, or will get diarrhea because your body cannot break down the fats into fatty acids anymore.

    When I was a kid I spent my summers on Cape Cod. In the town of Yarmouth there was a place called "Jerry's" on Rte 28. I used to work there serving ice cream and peeled onions for the onion rings. Jerry's use to have the best fried clams around. People would travel for miles to get them. I would go into the walk in cooler to get things and while inside I would peer at the clams inside the small container they were packed in. They were still alive and wiggling. The secret to good fried clams is hot hot grease. "Jerry's" is still there but Jerry himself is no longer the owner. Jerry was a workaholic during the summer months who worked sixteen hours a day seven days a week. He could be cranky too. When summer season ended his relatives would run the store during off season and his wife would not let him step foot inside the store. Jerry and his wife were good people.

I've never eaten seafood in the New England region. Given the proximity to some of the best harvesting waters in our country, I'd assume the seafood is top-notch. I'm going to plan a trip just for this. Now, when it comes to bbq though...

    I was there with my dad just a couple weeks ago. Excellent fried clams. I could probably demolish quite a few portions of their food with enough cocktail and tartar sauce. Highly recommend stopping there is you like fried seafood and are in the area. Used to be cheaper. Now it's up to like $40+ for a plate of clams, but honestly not sure how that stacks up to other places. My only gripe is that I prefer a breadier batter than they use on onion rings, but theirs were still hot, fresh, and crispy.

    Living here in New England all my life (67 yrs.) I must say the seafood here is pretty darn good. If rating seafood by State, then my picks would be Maine first, then Massachusetts/Rhode Island.

    I’m from Massachusetts, originally Everett. You can’t get anything but the best fish here. All over Massachusetts they do it the best. I’m currently living in New Bedford and they do it great here. Gloucester, New Bedford, can’t get enough of fried fish. Come visit and enjoy. You won’t be disappointed. Ask the locals where they eat. Best wishes ♥️♥️🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
