People can get sued for assisting a death even if it was wanted. For example, I heard there was this guy who would teach people methods to suicide and in return, he'd get to film the suicide. It was technically legal cause he didn't directly assist in the suicide. But once it was a method involving a car but the car needed to start up first, so the filming guy started up the car. Bad move. That's when he crossed the illegal line and I think he's in prison now. So yes, Mr Incredible would actually get sued for helping the guy suicide if he were to do it like that.

The beginning is really interesting, the “people passing by when someone is in danger.” I live in Belgium and I take psychology, a while ago we took lessons about a concept. I’ll start with a news story. A man suddenly had a heart attack in the street, he was alive, but very close to death. 8 (I believe) people past, some even stopping to look. Not one helped. Out teacher gave us an example, if you were alone walking in a park, broad daylight, suddenly you see someone drowning, do you help them? Most people said yes. What if it was a crowded park? People often think: “someone else will.” I know extremely depressing, hella interesting psychology.

Last year, I was suffering from heat exhaustion in a McDonald’s. I was throwing up in the trash can and verbally crying for help. Out of everyone in that crowded and busy restaurant, only one person did anything. Other people stared, but nobody other than that one person so much as asked if I was ok. That person was an employee that stepped away from her position and called me an ambulance. One moment I was terrified, throwing up, in a cold sweat, and begging for anyone to help me and the next thing I knew, the good employee was rubbing my back and a few paramedics were asking me questions about what could have caused my current state. Either the other witnesses thought that they’d get in trouble for helping me or they just didn’t care. If that employee hadn’t done anything, I likely would’ve tried to walk home since that’s how I got there in the first place. Since what I had would’ve lead to a heat stroke if I hadn’t cooled off and walking home would’ve meant walking a couple of blocks in the Arizona summer heat, I probably wouldn’t have made it home. That one employee, the only one that lifted a finger to help me, saved my life. I told her manager what she did so that he knew that, though she did walk away from her position during a very busy dinner rush, she did so to help someone and, in the end, save someone’s life.

*voice actor accidentally says "we" instead of I in one sentence in one scene* Matpat: we? WE? THEY'RE IN A SECRET ORGANIZATION PLANNING TO ______ TO ________
This is actually one of the best Matpat videos ever. When people criticize him for jumping to conclusions too much these days, remember how he used to actually have solid cases like this.
I don't see how. What I do see is some hotshot lawyer taking advantage of the legal situation at the time in order to do something truly earth-shattering. What lawyer DOESN'T want to be on the front page?
What I wanna know is this: the building the guy jumped off of was apparently a bank. Mr. Incredible tackled him into about the middle-ish floor of a pretty tall building and then we see the vault on that floor blow open. My question is: WHO THE HELL PUTS THEIR MONEY VAULT ON THE FIFTEENTH FLOOR?!?!
Ever since I first watched The Incredibles, for years I’ve always wondered why Mr. Incredible even got sued for saving someone from a suicide attempt or saved hundreds of people of getting killed from a train accident in the first place, it just made no sense but I think after watching this video brought some light onto something that has bothered me for years and shows that Pixar definitely does do their research. However there’s still one thing that still bothers me, what if Mr. Incredible didn’t choose to save the person that was going to commit suicide and didn’t choose to saved the hundreds of people on the train? Would he get in a lot of trouble for not saving them when he was at the perfect moment to do so since protecting civilians is basically one of the main jobs of being a Superhero and in turn would the public decide to turn against the Superheroes since those acts would tell the public that Superheroes no longer care for the public anymore and not doing the one job that they were meant to do and would the events of The Incredibles still happen where they all had to go into hiding and live normal lives?
StickMaster500 That's a good theory. Yeah, Mr. Incredible could have done that, and the events of the first film can still happen as the person committing suicide could cause a bad PR incident for the Supers, with the news accusing them of not saving them.
6:17. Anyone else notice that the entire jury in the background is made up of injured people, presumably people injured as a result of the actions of superheroes? Wouldn’t that give the case against the superheroes in question grounds for dismissal? I mean a trial by jury is supposed to have the jury randomly selected, and I personally find it to be highly suspicious that a randomly selected jury would consist almost entirely of persons injured presumably as a result of the actions of superheroes.
I was just thinking... that attempted suicide scene *COMPLETELY* flew over my head when i was little Like I remember thinking why would he not want to be saved? Is it part of his job? Was he a stunt guy? Can he fly? Never once did my innocent mind think he wanted to badly hurt himself.
In retrospect its kind of heavy for a kids film. Like, theres literal dead bodies of Bob's old friends later, but a skeleton telling us the bad guy is seriously dangerous is a far cry from potentially introducing the concept of suicide to kids. This is probably meant for older kids instead of younger ones but im willing to bet plenty of parents just saw a pixar movie to plop their kids in front of and then just had to pray that the attempted self harm went over their heads when that scene came out of nowhere 😅
"The government never re-opens it decades later" You stated, the movie takes place in '47, but the movie skips 15 years, which posts the main part of the movie at '62 so even then the laws protected them still are not in place yet. Just thought I'd point that out.
His statement is still correct though. Just not for the reasons he implied. Because 1.5 decadeS. We sure do love to add plurals to words regarding fractions!
Has no one noticed A113 in the thumbnail? Edit 1:Wow I did not expect to get 1.9K likes from that and to be pinned as well.Probably the best comment I’ve ever made :)
Thank you! I have been saying this for years! The fact that Mr Incredible had the power to save that man meant he couldnt stand by and let him die. Morally and ethically. I just didnt know about the TIMELINE of the laws.
This is the part where Miraculous Ladybug's superpower comes in handy (throwing the charm on the air and everything reverts back on before the "crime").

You have to hate people who literally get saved and brought to medical attention only to sue the guy, just trying to find any way she could to get money out of a situation where she was saved, and they were actually dumb enough to allow her to sue someone who saved her life, and now she’s the reason that people walked by multiple murders out of fear of being SUED, and caused a toddler to die People like this disgust me
If you ask me, that 1 guy who first sued Mr. Incredible is the reason all the other supers got killed by Syndrome. Think about it, if Syndrome used the same "relive the glory days" sob story on everyone they clearly ALL missed doing good hero work and so easily manipulated resulting in them getting killed.
@Actionfan19 , true. You know, when I first saw the Incredibles 2 trailer, I thought he was gonna be the Screenslaver. I was disappointed in that regard, but worst is that he never got retribution for that one act that indirectly ruined their lives. @@insertusernamehere8324 he researched just for this particular episode. That isn't hard at all. I'm not a lawyer but I write law articles, written over 300. You just gotta do the research. It's all public access. Google and Wikipedia makes it easy to track down each memo, court decision, and so on. But being a good lawyer is more than that. The law is open to interpretation and explanation. You need to be properly trained, ie go to law school and pass the bar. Ex. The good Samaritan defence he uses in the video won't actually work if you kidnapped someone because you claim you wanna save them. You can't cause a lot of damage and claim good Samaritan defense. A good lawyer will null that in no time. (Even doctors can be rightfully sued if they prescribe the wrong drugs, just because they wanted to heal or save doesn't exclude them from the law.) You can't cause reckless endangerment and claim the good Samaritan law. Also, suing the state or government and winning isn't expensive nor is it difficult. People do it all the time and win especially when it comes to personal injury. If the state is at fault because of faulty construction, etc. They can be held liable and if you're in the right, you'll win the case and be compensated for whatever injury you sustain. I wrote an article on such a court case about 10 years ago. I will look for it and post the link as an edit soon. I need to look for it. I don't have the fact off head. Edit: www.arnolditkin.com/personal-injury-blog/2019/april/can-cyclists-sue-cities-for-poor-road-conditions/ In this article (not my article), a man sued Los Angeles city council (and therefore the state and government) for injury caused by bad road which lead to his accident and injuries. He was awarded $6.5 million.

This was not only extremely well put together, but the brilliance you continue to showcase in each thoery video is mindblowing. Comedy, wit, and suspense are the 3 biggest features that drive your videos. Editing, voice acting (yes, enthusiastic voice acting, very well done) and visuals are the not so acknowledged traits that tie everything together. It's not only entertaining to watch, but inspiring to listen to. Mr. Pat, I really want to drive home how impressed I am at your overall ability to perform. That's what this is, a performance. And if there's anyone who deserves gratification most, it's you! It sounds cheesy, but there's a line from an iconic movie (guess if you can) that states "You once spoke to me about intelligence. That it was a gift to be used for the good of mankind." That theme is constantly reaffirmed in each of your videos. You manage to inspire without going over the top, and I quite honestly can't describe how it makes me feel. Or how you achieve it, or if you even know/set out to specifically invoke it in others. Thank you for all the great work, and I look forward to the many future projects you pursue!
Says Heimlich maunever instead of adomonal thrusts. Gets copyrighted and sued. Matpat uses good Samaritan law. "I was just doing my good duty to inform people about the Pixar legal system." Gets off. Mr. Incredible saves people during train wreck. Good Samaritan didn't work and he gets sued
Mr. Incredible even references that someone may not have committed suicide in sound mind, with his "Well, with counseling, I think you'll come to forgive me" line
"Maybe you dont need to have superpowers to impress your mom" Me: *wait, dont tell me..* "All you need is.." Me: *no no no* "SKILLSHARE" Me: *Every effing time*

In my old retail job they told us that we couldn't do anything to prevent a robbery because the robber could sue us for injury or something, and that the company would fire the employee if they even tried to do something like that. This was around 2009. Wouldn't something like that be protected by the Good Samaritan Law?
Perhaps your employers didn't want you to stop a robbery because that would put you in severe danger, usually police officers recommend that you comply to the robbers since that would make you less likely to get shot. Your bosses might have just tried to discourage you by telling you all that
Tankunish yea thats still a thing. A regular employee doesnt have authority to detain a shoplifter(though the manager on duty may be.) Its also a huge safety thing. Not worth tackling a maniac over a twinkie.
Yes, a robber can sue you for personal injury. So, unless you are actually defending yourself or others from physical harm, it's best to comply with the thief, report the incident promptly and accurately to the local authorities and let the insurance policy deal with any losses.

After watching this video, I just thought of something. Did the guy that Mr. Incredible saved jump just so he could sue the government?
1717Dave There was no guarantee he would be saved, so no
I don't see how. What I do see is some hotshot lawyer taking advantage of the legal situation at the time in order to do something truly earth-shattering. What lawyer DOESN'T want to be on the front page?
Of all the buildings he jumped off of, it was one DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF Mr. Incredible. HMMMMM
Cody Hines 😂😂😂
Yeah i mean hes supposed to be like: oh people are going to die i should help... Nvm lawsuit im out
StickMaster500 That's a good theory. Yeah, Mr. Incredible could have done that, and the events of the first film can still happen as the person committing suicide could cause a bad PR incident for the Supers, with the news accusing them of not saving them.
Third comment xD! Great theory, and I need to know what will happen!
StickMaster500 I mean the people got hurt when he saved them and the suicide guy didnt want to be saved it's that simple
Stick master why do I see you everywhere ‘~’
Yep! The 6th amendment protects your right to an impartial jury and if said jury is not impartial then it is unconstitutional.
I think it might be a protest thing, they all have the exact same neck brace
Uh, are you high on something? Getting injured is much better than dying.
I was just thinking...
that attempted suicide scene *COMPLETELY* flew over my head when i was little
Like I remember thinking why would he not want to be saved? Is it part of his job? Was he a stunt guy? Can he fly?
Never once did my innocent mind think he wanted to badly hurt himself.
I always thought he was a stuntman.....
MagsPie thought he was pushed by the robbers to distract him
I figured out he was trying to kill himself but I couldn't wrap my head around it. It just doesn't make any sense to kid brains
MagsPie I thought it was just coz his neck got broken when I was a kid.
"The government never re-opens it decades later"
You stated, the movie takes place in '47, but the movie skips 15 years, which posts the main part of the movie at '62 so even then the laws protected them still are not in place yet.
Just thought I'd point that out.
His statement is still correct though. Just not for the reasons he implied.

After what his search history probably looks like;I wouldn’t be overly surprised.
You have to hate people who literally get saved and brought to medical attention only to sue the guy, just trying to find any way she could to get money out of a situation where she was saved, and they were actually dumb enough to allow her to sue someone who saved her life, and now she’s the reason that people walked by multiple murders out of fear of being SUED, and caused a toddler to die
People like this disgust me
If you ask me, that 1 guy who first sued Mr. Incredible is the reason all the other supers got killed by Syndrome. Think about it, if Syndrome used the same "relive the glory days" sob story on everyone they clearly ALL missed doing good hero work and so easily manipulated resulting in them getting killed.
that’s the point of the movie. no “think about it” necessary. that was literally the plot lmao
In any regard, I hope that guy IS dead now cause the blood of like 20 people are on his hands.
@Actionfan19 , true. You know, when I first saw the Incredibles 2 trailer, I thought he was gonna be the Screenslaver. He is DEFINITELY able to be a lawyer...
@@insertusernamehere8324 no he isn't. Smh
@B oh please, like you’ve researched laws more than this person has. He not only knows laws, but also knows when they were invented...
Edit: www.arnolditkin.com/personal-injury-blog/2019/april/can-cyclists-sue-cities-for-poor-road-conditions/
In this article (not my article), a man sued Los Angeles city council (and therefore the state and government) for injury caused by bad road which lead to his accident and injuries.

In my old retail job they told us that we couldn't do anything to prevent a robbery because the robber could sue us for injury or something, and that the company would fire the employee if they even tried to do something like that. This was around 2009. Wouldn't something like that be protected by the Good Samaritan Law?
Tankunish Now I'm curious too...
Robber could probably sue for personal injuries, but you got the defence of self-defence.
Yes, a robber can sue you for personal injury. So, unless you are actually defending yourself or others from physical harm, it's best to comply with the thief, report the incident promptly and accurately to the local authorities and let the insurance policy deal with any losses.
