After dissecting the Princess Scene from the Wreck It Ralph 2 trailer, it became clear that not all princesses make the cut. No hate, just the rules of Disney. I like Disney's and their sub studio's movies for the most part, but I think the house of mouse as a company is one of the most crooked and shady companies out there.
Matt pat on the other hand has great content and he and his company aren't evil. In fact, I've seen him do a lot of charity stuff as well as many other projects that have a positive effect on the world as a whole.

According to the Disney Princesses fandom, these are the (unofficial) rules to be a Disney princess:
1. Must play a lead role in either a Disney or Pixar movie
2. Must be human or look like a human
3. Must be royal by birth, married into royalty or have performed a heroic act
4. Must have great appeal to audiences
It all makes sense now
5. The movies have to do well at the box

Weirdly enough, in the present today, of the 3 included to the princess list, only Moana was actually coronated as an official Disney princess, so now they’re 12. I don’t really know what happened with Anna and Elsa.

Anna and Elsa aren't official Disney Princesses because Frozen is too successful that it was unnecessary for them to be part of the group. But even if that's the case, Frozen is considered a "sister" brand to the Disney Princess line, that's why Disney is doing their best to include them in other events and promotional stuff despite not being official members (RBTI and the Ultimate Princess Celebration). And to be fair, if Frozen didn't earn a billion at the box office, they would've become offical members. 🤷
According to the wiki, those who succeed as a queen in their movie aren't part of the Disney princess line up, elsa was queen in frozen and Anna was queen in frozen 2
@@bisheen The Wiki is not always accurate though because it is subject to potential incorrect information being put in. I don't believe I have ever seen an official statement from Disney saying that once a Disney Princess becomes a queen she is booted out. Anna and Elsa both started out as princesses, and even though Frozen's huge success keeps them from being in the official lineup, I feel they should be included if and when Disney chooses to do so.
An interesting thought involves the recent live action Cinderella. Didn't the king die in that one, meaning the prince is the new king? That would mean Cinderella would become queen. I know this only happens in the live action film, but I really doubt Cinderella is going to be removed from the princess lineup.

Jane from Tarzan was supposed to be a Disney Princess. She even appeared in a magazine stating her as such. Disney pulled her from the status since she looks too much like Belle with the yellow dress, brown hair, etc.
Alice was also supposed to be one too. She's even a Princess of Heart in the Kingdom Hearts series.
It has always bothered me that Alice was a Princess of Heart and Ariel (who is also in the game) was not. Oh well.

That would be some really cool research actually. Both the films and the books were made a ways back, and psychology has changed pretty rapidly and majorly in the last couple decades. Idk the exact statistic, but there's like, three times as many distinct diagnoses than there used to be, we've gotten a lot more precise.
MatPat, I found out how to become a princess. All you have to do is reflect by looking in the water literally and figuratively and a song of what you need, and you will finally become a princess.

There is another factor that MatPat had not discussed.
Every one of the princesses in the room are the main characters of their movies. Meg is not the main character because that role falls to Hercules. In the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Esmeralda is not the main character, but rather Quasimoto is. With the Black Cauldron, Taran is the main protagonist and Princess Eilonwy is a deuteragonist.
So maybe, to be a Disney princess in this room, you may also have to be the main character in your own respective Disney movie.

Nope not a Disney Princess. MatPat's actually pretty wrong in these videos on what qualifies a character to be one. SuperCarlinBrothers did a very good video on this a while back
This is exactly what I was thinking. If Mulan qualifies, Lilo definitely would. Also, IIRC, the SuperCarlinBrothers' theory has some inconsistencies to it too.
She falls in the same category as Alice and Riley (Wonderland and Inside Out)
Caitlin Stevens but you forget that there were other spinoff movies for Lilo & Stitch
Lilo, Riley, and Vanellope will never be Disney Princesses because they are children and therfore can not have actors to play them at Disney World and Disney Land due to child labor laws. Alice is played as a character around The Disney resorts but will never be a princess because of how little she made at the box office. Also she was not born royal, married royal, or completed an act of heroism. She doesn't qualify. Leia will never be a Disney Princess because she is not animated and having her being played at a Disney resort would be impossible. Kids would know its not Carrie Fisher and would "break the magic". Technically Meg DOES fit all qualifications to be a Disney Princess with one problem. Hercules was made as a movie geared towards boys, not girls, and removes her from the list. Tinkerbell, like Lilo and Vanellope, is a small fairy and there isn't a way to have a small fairy flying around with out "breaking the magic". As for Elsa, Anna, and Moana. They are too popular. They make so much money as stand alone characters that the company would loose money lumping them in with the other Princesses. When their popularity FINALLY starts to die down they will be crowned and the hype over them will kick back up again.
Another distinction that you can make which includes the princesses in the room, but arguably excludes Venelope and the other examples you listed, is that those princesses were the protagonists and point of views of their stories.
What about Jasmine the point of view we see in her movie is Aladdin

Disney has a branch company dedicated to finding a "close enough" voice for their characters in ANY language in case ANYTHING happens that would make the original voice actor unable to perform
(They also act as consistency checkers making sure when one movie quotes another they do it right, but that's a whole other can of worms)

I LOVE HAMILTON
I think the requirement was literally just how well the target audience (kid girls) would know the included princesses. As someone who grew up on the princesses, it was easy for me to guess the official roster. I never appreciated hunchback until recently, and same with Hercules. I didn't even know the black cauldron existed until the video, and Atlantis is another movie that is appreciated more as you get older. But snow white, Jasmine, etc. were who I looked up to as a kid and would watch their movies over and over. Moana and Frozen would have been the same if I was a kid today. Disney just realized which princesses would draw the attention of little girls.
The Super Carlin Brothers did a few videos along these lines a while ago. If I remember right, recognition was a factor, along with box office gross, award nominations, and being a main character.
Or your own movie where you perform some kind of heroic act or be recused by a big strong man while you sleep....hint, hint...

I heard that Moana and frozen weren't included because they could make more money on their own. Cause an act of bravery was actually what included Mulan. They have different rules than the ones he did.
I loved the books the black cauldron was based on, and the movie was pretty good.
The thing is, these characters are well known among children _because_ they've been marketed so well. We all grew up with the princesses Disney wanted us to see, the ones who did well in the box offices. If Meg or Esmeralda were marketed the same way, more children would be more familiar with them.

Not only Disney princess, other types like heroes or animal are also treat them for what they earn. So that’s why is important to boost the popularity for the Disney movie you love on the social media, to help them stay on the line. Once they are below the line, they are pretty much gone.

Black Cauldron was deffinatly a better movie then critics said it was.
The wiki and the DVD I have say it's Eilonwy, then again there has been translation differences. In Finnish version it says Elena, but in English it says Eilonwy.
