Yeah Mumbo quickly figured out that it wasn't working and that a new strategy was needed. Watching other hermits throw their compasses 10+ times has been so painful
Mumbo, please do not be worried that you're not doing things properly, or in the most efficient way in the dungeon. That worry and pressure is what drives people to be better I think it's good if he's worried/stressed, as long as he remembers at the end of it all he has time - it's beneficial, the reward after hard work, not something to shy from
3:20 Mumbo, don't worry about being good or bad at the game, what matters most to the viewers is how the Hermits yelp in terror when they die. All joking aside, Tango has made a fantastic horror game, and even if you're not the best, if you're having fun, that's all that matters.
You did amazing on your first Decked Out 2 experience! A little advice that you've probably already got told by many others: You can harvest the berry bushes for food. That way you'll have a chance to keep running from the ravengers :)
Just, right click them to harvest. Not left click. Think it's only been one case of accidental breaking to harvest, but considering it costs you a berry to replant and it's disabled for the rest of your run you wind up punishing yourself more than anyone else.
Tip for the compass! You’re finding the spot correctly, but then throwing the compass at the block in front of you. Find the spot where the compass is rotating, and then throw directly below you
To simplify this, you'll always want to throw the compass towards where its pointing. A lot of hermits get close and just throw it willy nilly but just throw it when looking in the direction where the compass is pointed straight up once you know you're within a block or two
i went from watching one of hypno's hard mode videos to this one and i can say that no matter what difficulty the hermits play on, its so thrilling to watch
two things you need to do 1. compass training 2. positive thinking you did so well most people had much harder time playing the first 3 runs you didn't even get lost, running is circles until you die
Honestly, Mumbo did well with the compass. He can determine a rough distance based on the wiggle, and knows it has to turn around. Also thought of the verticality quickly, most hermits had to be given a hint about that
That little stres-giggle at the beginning was so relatable. Love how he is so exited about that amazing project, I realy hope Tango hears this, too. He put in so much hard work and it absolutly shows.
Dude, those were great runs. If you plan on doing more, the main note is to make sure you eat berries; they are there for you to survive deeper delves. How to spend your crowns: Either save for another shard, or buy a card that you know how they work and have a strategy to use. The shop cards are all ethereal, so if played they won't be returned to you. The strategy of Decked Out is fascinating, especially when you get to the fancier cards. Blocking Clank gives you move time in the dungeon. Blocking Hazard keeps your options open. More treasure increases your chances of getting money for the out of game shop, and more Frost Embers is ultimately the goal. Balancing these concerns is tough, but engaging if taken seriously. Hope this helps, and it is fun to see you having fun with it!
Definitely a good idea to keep your first few runs unedited - once you get more used to the dungeon and the tension's not so high you can edit out the boring parts but for now it was quite exciting seeing you nervously trying your best (and fortunately - succeeding).
Loved your genuine excitement! We live for it and Tango did such an amazing job. Some strategies for your future runs! No spoilers. 1. Sound design is HUGE, HUGE, HUUUGGGEEE! Getting to know the sounds of the dungeon and what they mean will drastically improve how much loot you acquire and how dangerous the dungeon is getting the longer you spend in it. This includes the card announcer and map combo. I encourage you to talk with Tango so he can explain the usefulness of the map and how with it you can track how well your cards are aiding you during your runs. The map is essentially a tool to help you track and in real time the effectiveness of your deck during runs. 2. Many hermits miss this detail. Even when sneaking over shriekers, any sound you make will trip it, not just walking and jumping. Munching on berries will trigger shriekers and raise your Clank levels so be mindful where and when you eat them. 3. Map knowledge is BIG. Taking things slow in the beginning to learn the layout will aid you when Hazard gets bad and you need a quick retreat or have to lure a ravager out of a key location. Situational awareness will be your best friend. Really get good looks at the rooms you’re entering and leaving and always keep your retreat path in mind. 4. Map knowledge is worth the risk of losing a run. It’s always better to get out with an artifact but if you can’t, often what you can gain becoming more familiar with the floor map is still worth that risk. You can always take what you learned from the previous failed attempt into the next dungeon run so don’t sweat losses. As long as you make sure to learn something new about the dungeon layout each time your in there, you’ll get value outta every run you do. 5. Big risk equals BIG rewards. If you can get a handle on being very observant within the dungeon and keep tabs on the ravagers’ locations, you can upgrade to higher difficulties even without a ton of cards to help you with the dungeon. The deeper into the dungeon you go the greater the artifact and the more embers you receive to get even more cards or even higher tier cards in the shop. (In case you haven’t heard it from Tango or the other hermits yet, medium difficulty is 50/50 dungeon level 1 & 2. Meaning you can a deeper level 1 artifact or an early level 2 artifact.)
Mumbo's squeals and genuine panicky voice on his first run are the best compliment any player could give to our very own game designer Tango. Loved your runs. Delighted you had fun! Look forward to seeing more and how you get on. GLHF!
Mumbo literally took an ember seeker first to unlock a victory tome and stability. Even though you say you don’t have any other gaming experience, that was probably the smartest way to go. Makes me feel proud lol
You're not afraid to show your failures because you learn from them. I've always really appreciated how open you are with your emotions, especially with what you've spoken about on the Imp and Skizz podcast. You always put yourself first and that allows you to care so much about other people, so don't let anyone give you shit about taking a break and doing things for your own mental health. You seem like such a genuine person and your audience notices that. You've done a great job and are definitely a role model and someone that I look up to. So thank you, for being you.
Save your crowns until you have a better deck and more experience so that you can make the most of what you buy, since they mostly seem to be one-time-use items.
when you watch the compass enough to stand directly on the block it's pointing to, but then you just chuck the compass whichever way you happen to be facing instead of straight down...
Congrats Mumbo, you did excellent! Just make sure you collect the berries - you're allowed to eat them in the dungeon, and there are times when you'll definitely need them so that you can run. Very happy to see you give it a try, and can't wait to see more 😊 Also, those were really lovely compliments you had for Tango, he's been so happy with how much everyone is enjoying it 😊
Save the crowns for the tango head! Good job on your decked out runs! Few tips: pick berries, they can be eaten. As for finding the way out, there is hazard which blocks paths making you go a different way. As for sound, there is a tutorial room to learn the sound of events
@@hermitcollector not spoilers as its even been explained by tango and other hermits many times already. plus at the time of mumbo uploading this episode, week 2 of decked out is Almost finished lol
@bargen0w there are a lot of things Tango has exlained in his streams to viewers that he hasn't explicitly explained to viewers. The meaning of the Tango head is one of them. He has also requested we don't back seat game and let hermits figure it out on their own. Warning mumbo to save the crowns for the Tango head is not doing that. I get the excitement, but I still stand my ground that this counts as spoilers/backseat gaming. The rest of your comment was fine because it was general knowledge that was in the instruction video.
@@hermitcollector hermits have figured it out though. In one of the first days they already correctly assumed what it did On top of that I never said what it did. Just that he should save up for it. Which is actually not even good advice because it's not that great. But it would be fun to see
But yet he made it out anyway! Mumbo didn't pick the berries because he knew he didn't need them because he's a Chad gamer. fr though there's so much to remember about the game I don't blame him for forgetting the berries at all
No offense, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that Mumbo is one of the most mild-mannered Hermits on the server. Mumbo, your excited squeals as you entered the game really just filled me with joy! I am so happy to see you playing Decked Out! I would love to see you play while Tango is watching
Mumbo's runs definitely had me the most pumped so far. I think it's partly due to how emotive he was, and partly how empathic I am, but when he was really excited, I got really excited, and when he got really freaked out, I got really freaked out!
12:13 - "It must be the floor below. Sorry, I'm so useless/stupid" Aw, come on, lots of players had trouble with verticality on opening day, and most of them at the time had Tango around to help 'em out. You did just fine.
So cool to see your first decked out runs!! Despite your insistence that you suck, you did extremely well! And don't feel too bad on the compass thing- Scar did the same thing in the exact same spot as you LOL! Super impressed! Glad to see you're doing well
@@cooltoast9056 tf are you talking about, he literally won 2/3 games and successfully located all three with no way of avoidin losing the one he did die in
Mumbo, great first runs: Panic - check Getting lost - check Hilarious first death - check Forgetting to get berries - check Scar level compass skills - check What to buy with the crowns (and frost embers)? Go for a frost ember heavy deck. No one else seems to be trying it as a tactic. Stick to easy and medium runs with a frost ember heavy deck until youre consistently getting out with 20+ embers. You should then be able to get a lot of cards and that will help more than anything, lots of cards.
Definitely save the crowns for a later point, regardless of what you use them on (more frost shards is never bad, as they let you do more runs. At a certain point you *could* get enough crowns in a run to perpetually cycle buying a shard -> running -> buying a shard). You'll want to make sure you get the most use you can out of them, once you have a good grip on the base mechanics.
Few notes: - Berries are there to provide food in the dungeon, you're allowed to harvest them; so you don't run out of sprint and regen in the future - When buying stuff with crowns, remember that Ethereal Cards can only be used for a single run and then don't get returned to you - getting the horn of the goat is massive luck for Easy difficulty, considering that you can get artifacts that only reward you with 6 embers on that difficulty, 18 is cracked - now that you have at least one victory tome it's probably worth investing a little more into the deck itself as cards that add clank and hazard block allow for longer runs potentially, allowing you to go deeper into the dungeon and thus get better artifacts for even better cards and better tome deals aside from that, those were an incredible first three runs, gj!
Mumbo omg you did incredible! Not only did you manage to get an artefact and out again on the second run, but you also succeeded twice without eating a single berry. That's impressive! And you found and used shortcuts I've not seen any other Hermits use yet. Don't worry about that one compass spot. It confused both Scar and Doc to no end, too. Watching you playing Decked Out 2 was a blast! Also very happy to see that vault door again. You are right it's so much fun to watch you bounce into your vault like that XD
It's been amazing seeing everyone's Decked Out runs, and yours have been no exception! I was on the edge of my seat when you ran out of hunger so close to the exit, it was such an incredible save XD. Don't forget to pick up some berries along the way next time, that might've saved all of us some anxiety haha. Seriously though, keep up the awesome runs, I hope you find the space to continue to include them in your videos as they are a joy to behold!
Some tips: 0. Berry buahes. They are there to be eaten, and can be invaluable in tense situations. 1. The map UI. (Starting from top) 1a. Frost Embers: The bar represents queued up chances of embers being released into the dungeon which are only gotten by card effects. Are only useful by escaping the dungeon with an artifact. They are used at the end of a successful run. 1b. Treasure: Same system as frost embers, as well as slowly released into the dungeon as you play Coins, crowns and keys are counted as treasure. 1c. Hazard block: Over time, alternate passages will become blocked or harder to traverse, card effects can slow this down. 1d. Clank block: Over time, a heartbeat will increase and at max, certain mobs will be deployed to make your escape super hard. This can be sped up by setting off shriekers or via card effects. It can also be slowed down via card effects. 1e. Cards: (Normally) live count of your deck and counts down as cards play. 2. Sound cues: 2a. Noteblock bell: Treasure being dispensed nearby, 2b. Noteblock woodwhistle: Frost embers being dispensed nearby. 2c. Shriekers/"stumble" card announcement: Causes clank to be generated. 2d. Triple xylophone notes: Clank being blocked. 2e. Crumbling sound: Hazard activating, meaning a passage is closed off or harder to get through. 2f. Ominous sound: Hazard being blocked. 3. Techniques: 3a. Lure: If a ravager is blocking your path, make it follow you to somewhere you can easily pass it. 3b. Spread them out: If ypu find several ravagers at once, try to lure one and then the other in different directions, this might help with avoiding getting pinched. 3c. Loops: Try to pass ravagers by luring them part way down one passage, then running down the other connected passage.
I'm glad you gave Decked Out 2 a shot, despite being scared of peoples harsh comments. I would feel similar at the prospect of playing DO2 (because I think I'd be absolutely useless at it), so I'm glad you tried it! Also, maybe you could ask to borrow Grian's tree farm for the warped stems; it also works for those trees. (I use the same farm)
12:20 you're doing fine most of the hermits struggled with that in their first but, unlike some of them you didn't need tango reminding you of verticality to figure it out
That was so much fun to watch, both for what you accomplished and how excited you were to play! My one bit of advice would be to grab the berries to keep your hunger bar full.
Great runs Mumbo! Getting out with an artifact on your 2nd run is really good. Many (most?) Hermits didn't start winning runs until #3 or 4. For someone that kept saying how he is, your early runs were very much on part with most of the other Hermits' early runs. Good stuff! I enjoyed watching!
Oh wow! Mumbo did so well for his first few runs of Decked Out! He got the artifact in the first run (even if he didn't make it out), he immediately clocked onto the fact that there are multiple floors in each levels so his artifact could be in the right spot but different floor, he juked the ravagers around loops often and he was able to navigate the dungeon quite well, so he probably has good spatial awareness and mapping skills!

Actually have watched his runs. They aren't bad at all.
A lot of hermits get close and just throw it willy nilly but just throw it when looking in the direction where the compass is pointed straight up once you know you're within a block or two
Mumbo giggling like a school girl as he entered decked out for the first time brings me life.
The feeling of adventure
i went from watching one of hypno's hard mode videos to this one and i can say that no matter what difficulty the hermits play on, its so thrilling to watch
I loved Mumbo admiring the architechture and design in the middle of his runs, it was so sweet
Right? That's one of the reasons i was looking forward to his runs
two things you need to do
1. compass training
2. positive thinking
you did so well
most people had much harder time playing the first 3 runs
you didn't even get lost, running is circles until you die
Honestly, Mumbo did well with the compass. He can determine a rough distance based on the wiggle, and knows it has to turn around. Also thought of the verticality quickly, most hermits had to be given a hint about that
And eat berries!
You know what? Despite the panic, you confidently jumped through that dungeon like a pro! 💪 Can't wait to see your deck progress! 😁
When your a tasty lil guy surrounded by a bunch of hungry nope horses, running like a scared dear isn't a bad play.
Definitely a good idea to keep your first few runs unedited - once you get more used to the dungeon and the tension's not so high you can edit out the boring parts but for now it was quite exciting seeing you nervously trying your best (and fortunately - succeeding).
mumbo you did absolutely amazing on your first runs! Just remember to pick up berries from the berry bushes for food along the dungeon!
Mumbo please remember to grab the berries, so you can heal later on if needed! Or in case you run out of sprint! You did great btw!!
* Victory tome

I love how he left some runs uncut and still ended up with a video under 30 minutes
So excited to watch future runs of decked out from you! Don't forget that you can pick the berries in the dungeon for food!
Thank you for mentioning. Sorry but my mind was scrambling at that
And open the bookcase doors for a secret path
You're not afraid to show your failures because you learn from them. I've always really appreciated how open you are with your emotions, especially with what you've spoken about on the Imp and Skizz podcast. You always put yourself first and that allows you to care so much about other people, so don't let anyone give you shit about taking a break and doing things for your own mental health. You seem like such a genuine person and your audience notices that. You've done a great job and are definitely a role model and someone that I look up to. So thank you, for being you.
what, really? what episode?
I've only now realised how absolutely INCREDIBLE that build is. Tango deserves an award.
You should see some of tangos streams to see the insane redstone magic thats behind the scenes, he's so skilled
This is what we all wanted, a Mumbo in Decked Out!! You did super well Mumbo!!! Cannot wait for more runs 😀
Save your crowns until you have a better deck and more experience so that you can make the most of what you buy, since they mostly seem to be one-time-use items.
Yup this is amazing advice. The cards you buy in the shop are “Ethereal” cards, which can only be used once.
Given the lack of knowledge, I think Dungeon Lackey would actually be a solid purchase. (It would also just be fun to watch.)
The genuine whiplash of watching scar go from wizard to hot guy over the last few years cracks me up
I never witnessed the wizard so current Scar is very much just his default natural state to me and I can’t see him not like that lol
@@Evie0h I mean… even then he was stealing from grian and wandering around talking about how attractive he is.. so. Maybe he’s always been like this.
@@kwowka makes sense lol!
when you watch the compass enough to stand directly on the block it's pointing to, but then you just chuck the compass whichever way you happen to be facing instead of straight down...
You might want to start grabbing and using the Sweetberries in the Decked Out dungeon. Also, Congrats on the DO runs! you did really well!
Congrats Mumbo, you did excellent! Just make sure you collect the berries - you're allowed to eat them in the dungeon, and there are times when you'll definitely need them so that you can run.
Very happy to see you give it a try, and can't wait to see more 😊 Also, those were really lovely compliments you had for Tango, he's been so happy with how much everyone is enjoying it 😊
GUYS he held still from 4:25 to 4:31. 6 seconds might be a new record.
Save the crowns for the tango head!
Good job on your decked out runs!
Few tips: pick berries, they can be eaten. As for finding the way out, there is hazard which blocks paths making you go a different way. As for sound, there is a tutorial room to learn the sound of events
Spoilerssss
In one of the first days they already correctly assumed what it did
On top of that I never said what it did. Just that he should save up for it. Which is actually not even good advice because it's not that great. But it would be fun to see
Every time you walked past the berries in decked without picking them I felt a part of my soul die
So seeing his Decked Out run especially in comparison to Scar and Grian was beautiful. xD
Also the fact that his first run was after the first week of Decked Out was already over lmao.
The excited/nervous chuckles are my favorite. Please post all of your runs, they bring me so much joy and laughter
I'm actually grinning at the end of the second run. Honestly, I don't care how well anyone does as long as they're having a great time playing this game. Mumbo's delight and excitement is infectious, as always.
12:25 "Nooice, nailed it!" improvements for Decked Out Three: the Nethernator
Give yourself some credit!
You absolutely did better than some hermits and I'd love to see more runs as long as you're having fun.
Sorry, I'm so useless/stupid"
Aw, come on, lots of players had trouble with verticality on opening day, and most of them at the time had Tango around to help 'em out. You did just fine.
Hearing the pure joy in mumbos voice just brings me happiness.
So cool to see your first decked out runs!! Despite your insistence that you suck, you did extremely well! And don't feel too bad on the compass thing- Scar did the same thing in the exact same spot as you LOL!
Super impressed! Glad to see you're doing well
The vibes of a mumbo run is so different from the vibes of the other peoples runs I’ve seen. It feels so much more chaotic
Mumbo seriously did really well for someone playing the game for the first time
no he didnt lets be honest no hate though
@@cooltoast9056 tf are you talking about, he literally won 2/3 games and successfully located all three with no way of avoidin losing the one he did die in

Mumbo, great first runs:
Panic - check
Getting lost - check
Hilarious first death - check
Forgetting to get berries - check
Scar level compass skills - check
What to buy with the crowns (and frost embers)? Go for a frost ember heavy deck. No one else seems to be trying it as a tactic. Stick to easy and medium runs with a frost ember heavy deck until youre consistently getting out with 20+ embers. You should then be able to get a lot of cards and that will help more than anything, lots of cards.
You're not giving yourself nearly enough credit. You did great!
Definitely save the crowns for a later point, regardless of what you use them on (more frost shards is never bad, as they let you do more runs. At a certain point you *could* get enough crowns in a run to perpetually cycle buying a shard -> running -> buying a shard). You'll want to make sure you get the most use you can out of them, once you have a good grip on the base mechanics.
ah yes, the Etho strategy. Endlessly play decked out until you get all the tomes in the world
Few notes:
- Berries are there to provide food in the dungeon, you're allowed to harvest them; so you don't run out of sprint and regen in the future
- When buying stuff with crowns, remember that Ethereal Cards can only be used for a single run and then don't get returned to you
- getting the horn of the goat is massive luck for Easy difficulty, considering that you can get artifacts that only reward you with 6 embers on that difficulty, 18 is cracked
- now that you have at least one victory tome it's probably worth investing a little more into the deck itself as cards that add clank and hazard block allow for longer runs potentially, allowing you to go deeper into the dungeon and thus get better artifacts for even better cards and better tome deals
aside from that, those were an incredible first three runs, gj!

I'm happy to see Mumbo enjoying a new game even if it's in the vanilla Minecraft; I am hearing brand new noises Mumbo makes and that makes me happy.
Some tips:
0. Berry buahes.
They are there to be eaten, and can be invaluable in tense situations.
1. The map UI.
(Starting from top)
1a. Frost Embers:
The bar represents queued up chances of embers being released into the dungeon which are only gotten by card effects.
Are only useful by escaping the dungeon with an artifact.
They are used at the end of a successful run.
1b. Treasure:
Same system as frost embers, as well as slowly released into the dungeon as you play
Coins, crowns and keys are counted as treasure.
1c. Hazard block:
Over time, alternate passages will become blocked or harder to traverse, card effects can slow this down.
1d. Clank block:
Over time, a heartbeat will increase and at max, certain mobs will be deployed to make your escape super hard.
This can be sped up by setting off shriekers or via card effects.
It can also be slowed down via card effects.
1e. Cards:
(Normally) live count of your deck and counts down as cards play.
2. Sound cues:
2a. Noteblock bell:
Treasure being dispensed nearby,
2b. Noteblock woodwhistle:
Frost embers being dispensed nearby.
2c. Shriekers/"stumble" card announcement:
Causes clank to be generated.
2d. Triple xylophone notes:
Clank being blocked.
2e. Crumbling sound:
Hazard activating, meaning a passage is closed off or harder to get through.
2f. Ominous sound:
Hazard being blocked.
3. Techniques:
3a. Lure:
If a ravager is blocking your path, make it follow you to somewhere you can easily pass it.
3b. Spread them out:
If ypu find several ravagers at once, try to lure one and then the other in different directions, this might help with avoiding getting pinched.
3c. Loops:
Try to pass ravagers by luring them part way down one passage, then running down the other connected passage.
I’m so hype for the random bumbling around noises! Let’s go Mumbo 🎉
Yes mumbo sounds
YES
The bumbling Mumbo Jumbo
I'm glad you gave Decked Out 2 a shot, despite being scared of peoples harsh comments. I would feel similar at the prospect of playing DO2 (because I think I'd be absolutely useless at it), so I'm glad you tried it! Also, maybe you could ask to borrow Grian's tree farm for the warped stems; it also works for those trees. (I use the same farm)
12:20 you're doing fine most of the hermits struggled with that in their first but, unlike some of them you didn't need tango reminding you of verticality to figure it out
I’ve never heard mumbo so incredibly and genuinely excited and giddy… that was amazing! ❤
That was so much fun to watch, both for what you accomplished and how excited you were to play! My one bit of advice would be to grab the berries to keep your hunger bar full.
The fact that Etho could see one pixel of ravanger 100 blocks away while Mumbo can’t see one in front of his face 😂😂😂😂
22:50 my fave expression: "i am so chuffed to bits with that" xD
you're doing amaaaazing mumbo !!!! it's so much fun hearing all your impressions - you sound so happy and so terrified at the same time 😆
You shouldn't worry too much about not being good at the game, Decked Out runs are interesting regardless of the results and also you make good content by yourself. Having said that, you did very well in your first runs! Good job!
On Warped Stem: Both Tango and X have fully automated nether wood systems. Maybe talk to them about generally how they did it?
1. You are allowed to eat the berries
2. Remember you can crouch on magma blocks to negate damage
3. In the wise words of tango: Verticality!
Smiling so hard hearing you be so excited playing great video Mumbo.
Sameeee!!!
You may say you’re terrible at this, but you’re killing it so far! 2 wins out of 3, and a victory tome!
"I've lost all my berries in the dungeon" ... well, you're supposed to pick them up you know XD. Great vid, loved every minute of your runs!
You did great! That ravager jumscare on the first run was quite something 😂
I hope you leave your future runs uncut as well, they're very entertaining to watch!
I get nervous just watching everyone play. What Tango has built is amazing ❤️
Ya honestly the way he was talking I was expecting so much worse. He did really well. Grian died his first run with tangos help. So honestly great job mumbo.
I love how Mumbo and Keralis we're both "terrible" and yet their first few runs were amazing! I can't wait for both of their next runs.
I feel hustled ! I expected terrible and yet your second run was amazing. I’ve never seen anyone dodge a ravager thro the water tunnel. Valuable knowledge!

You did so good for a newbie Mumbo! Once you get more comfortable and less panicky you'll definantly be a challenge for the current leaders! My only advice would be do a run when Tangos watching if you can! I wish we could have seen his reaction to these fantastic first runs 😂
I've been so excited to see Mumbo run the dungeon, and he did not disappoint😂
