@@jaymartinrealtor7736 Wait why would you be starting a business like that at that age with that income? Curious. I love a person that's always willing to change and learn. I'm assuming you're not the one going down in the pit 🙂
I wanted to give plumbing a shot. I got accepted for the NYC Local 1 plumber Union, but im on the wait list for classes and I didnt make the first class cause my number is pretty high. Its already been over a year and it sucks waiting. I am #330.
Yeah it's very competitive. That's why I tell a lot of people. If you got into the union. Consider yourself lucky. I know on the east coast west coast it's quite the challenge so it's worth getting on the list and take the job when you can get it
Hi. I apprenticed woth my uncle a retired union plumber. Fell in love with the trade. Went to apply for every job I could apprentice for. All said the same thing. I dont have enough experience. Got into HVAC and got a job right away. I genuinely dont understand whats going on with plumbing companies these days, but its absolutely absurd.
That's really a bummer to hear. I know that HVAC or fitters have a lot more pm work so I'm glad you got in for that. I'm sure it's still fun. But yes plumbing work or contractors better start prepping new people or we are fucked! Thanks for sharing this
@@sirguy6678 either way you are right. Well said and I'll make some of that money. No big deal. Keep flushing them unflushable wipes and keep pouring down those coffee grains. It's all good
I left my company I worked for as a 2nd term. Two months unemployed not sure why people say plumbing is a great career. There's no one willing to hire apprentices.
@@denvercharlebois699I’ve been plumbing for 4 years now I’m 24 and I recently went to my local union and passed the entrance exam I just had my interview last week, idk if I got hired yet but if you really want it go get it .
Sorry to hear about that. The journey is not easy. But as Jake said...try to get into a union. It's a very competitive industry depending on where you are but no matter where there will always be a need. Thanks for sharing
Hey sometimes we come to the end of our ropes and wam a door opens! Happens all the time while trying to solve problems in the field too! Well done! Congrats
How was the culture during your apprenticeship? I heard for construction plumbing the culture is toxic. You get talked down on a lot and there’s bunch of immature toxic masculinity in many states.
You know there is a, hazing process and you will get razzed. Now to what extent...if you suck ...probably a lot. If you care and actually want to make it...less. us depends on how old school these guys are. If they aren't making fun of you that also means they probably don't like you. So, it's not your office type vibe. But there are boundaries and yes...it's fun! Hard at times. But that's the industry.
