This needs a threaded end that fits the Grayl Geopress for a all-in-one lightweight minimalist loadout using on route water sources.. otherwise l’m not seeing much advantage over a using a centralized/balanced hidden 2-3L bladder with good hose routing and a secondary Nalgene/Grayl riding an exterior pocket for use when stopped, if wanted/needed.
Good news! We've been working on an all-in-one small cap that will work for smart water bottles and Grayl. No firm timing on it yet. We need to get it just right.
@@hardsidehydration521 G'day from "down under" mate, good on ya for think'n outside the box, or indeed bladder, lol.. I assume the plunge mechanism on the Grayl would need to be removed to accommodate the suction tube ? Also, do you know if stainless Pathfinder bottles are the same thread as Nalgene ? I wouldn't bother asking for an obscure bottle, but since the Pathfinder jobs are so common, I thought it would be a fair question. Cheers Duke. P.S. Btw; I can see the concept being a boon for cyclists too, particularly where the bottle is housed down low on the frame, and on the proviso that the hose is long enough without requiring superhuman effort to draw against the gravity.
@@eyeofthetiger4184 I haven’t used a pathfinder bottle so I can’t say. The thread on our cap is a 63mm semi buttressed thread. Just judging by pictures I’ve found online of that bottle, I’m doubtful it would fit.
@@hardsidehydration521 Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it. I do need a new EDC bottle so I'll get a Nalgene and double check. Good luck with venture, a simple and long overdue solution when you think about it.
Someone mentioned Smart Water bottles. A tight fit (watertight), but you can actually insert a hydration tube down their sport caps that come with their 700ml bottles. I strap one of these on one of my my shoulder straps. Works great.
Source got a system fitting standart PET Bottles that can be adapted to nalgene and a lot of other brands. Im using it for years and loving it, much easyer to clean the bottle than a hydrationbladder
Yes, been using one for a year or so. Super handy to use on smart bottles picked up at gas stops on the motorcycle, or nalgene while hiking/hunting. Tube is long enough for big bottles, but slides inside hose cover to shorten so you can go back to bigger bottles later.
Back in the the 2010 era a company made a similar product for paintball called pbwaterpod. It was built the same size as a paintball pod so it could fit in your pack and came with a a couple different choice is tube color. I like this product!
I made my own with a smart water bottle and a short chest length bladder replacement hose and bite valve and it works great but I like this one. I hate bladders. Easy to clean and see volume left. Nalgene now makes the much lighter bottle so the weight weenies will not complain to much. I probably paid 30 bucks for my parts to make mine. So good deal I think.
Dear Swig Rig. Please make a lid compatible with the threads on a Smartwater bottle. This would allow inline filtration, lighter weight bottles and compatibility with store bought electrolyte waters. Thank you.
We've been working on an all-in-one small cap that will work for smart water bottles and Grayl. We've found that because of the ease of cleaning, this setup works great with powdered drinks too. Lastly, our hose is sized perfect for inline filters like Sawyer.
FYI the lid for the nalgene will fit the 40 Thermoflask from Costco. I’ve been interchanging the lids my self between the nalgen and Thermoflask. We’ll mainly the thermo swig lid on my nalgene. What would be perfect is if that straw will fit the the Epic Water filter for nalgene, for your all in one water system.
Good video, thanks. I’m a back country hiker, so I personally I think you missed the biggest issue with bladder hydration, which is when there in you back you’re never sure how much water is remaining and refilling them. They they buried in you pack accessing them just sucks.
Regarding flexible containers / bladders I always thought the hose is only there because there's no other, more convenient way to drink water from them :) But yeah, whoever considers the tube important can just attach one to his bottle. Problem solved.
Love it, and I want one. Going to look around and find one I have plenty of Nalgene bottles. It would be easier to do this with a bottle that it would be the bladder you're right they are something else to clean
Water bladers have been obsolete for ever a canteen with a straw extension is the best idea and its been out for 25 years ish Bladders get moldy super fast and take up space . And bite values malfunction also they freeze at high altitudes. Take a look at usgi products
Wait till you hear about the usgi 2 quart canteen with the rothco drinking straw lol it even colapses as you use it up and can be rolled up and probably can be yeeted from 100ft drop..
I don’t think I’d ever replace a bladder with this. Having 3L of water centered on your back is just way too ideal when lugging around a backpack. However I could see this being used *in addition to* a water bladder if you’re also carrying a water bottle. If you could manage both hoses that would actually be pretty sweet. Just my personal opinion. Hope they come out with one for Grayl bottles soon. Thanks for the vid!
Agreed. Would be a nice bit of kit to have in terms of a backup/lighter weight hydration source. Particularly for short day trips and the like. But as you said - the ability to readily and comfortably carry up to 3L of water can't be understated. Got my pack set up so that with some decent amounts of finagling I can remove the bladder, slide it into a low profile carrier, and take that as my source of water for the day if I don't want to lug the whole pack around. Knowing that I have ample water is a load off the mind for sure. Worrying about refilling (and potentially filtering) bottle after bottle is a bit much.
The issue I’ve had with similar systems is the first few inches out of the bottle are not flexible enough. So that section kinks and eventually cracks and leaks
Bladders are a pain especially if you want to mix in some hydration powders. This looks like the deal Gid, thanks again for a great product presentation and review.
is the white tube inside the bottle needed? just flip the bottle upside down and have a small hole in your backpack where the bottle sits. or there could be something i don't know about.
They might be worried about liquid leaking out after some time. Other than that I agree with you. In side pocket , you will not even need that hole in backpack, just bend the hose and done. Maybe they will do it in future.
@@gobihoukou1 there are trust worthy materials to prevent leaking for long times but i understand your point, bending the tube is not a good idea tho it damages it and doesn't feel professional.
Upright is best for this system. There is a little valve in the lid that allows air in as you drink. It won't leak when upside down, but you'll most likely get some vacuum lock eventually.
Very cool! Quick question, is there an air valve in the lid? It seems to be spill proof from your shots of it laying on its side. This would honestly pair great with an inline filter. I've been using the MSR thru link filter with a hydrapak force 2l bladder. It's a great setup but I find myself taking nalgenes and a salomon 500ml filtered flask (made by hydrapak) instead. Bladders are just more finnicky that I like and leaks suck.
Looks like a great alternative to a bladder. I was wondering if you can still pour water through the hose using gravity as my dog drinks from the hose?
Not sure wasn’t aware the source even existed I’ll have to get my hands on it at some point. I know that this is from a small American company and the quality is extremely high.
I wanted to like this product but I just can't; It's hard to suck up water through the straw/hose. Maybe that's not an issue for some, but that's my experience. One thing that does help is cutting the straw at a bias. Your flow rate improves but it's still annoying.
Great idea but I have one question, how loud does it get once the water level drops and it starts sloshing around in the container? This has always been a problem for me with my bladders, not a function problem just annoying.
Interesting I’m not sure what you mean by loud, the internal straw is rigidly mounted in can be disconnected but doesn’t bounce around too much from what I could tell but I wasn’t really listening for that since I’ve never really thought hydration packs were loud either.
Ultralight day packs you have to balance the pack properly with your other gear, and that’s where a hydro pack still would make a lot of sense depending on how the pack is laid out or obviously if you’re doing bike riding or skiing or something like that an action sport in general. But on larger packs with heavy loads you’re not gonna notice a particular for me when I was backpacking. Good question!
Well I was sold on this and going to buy one. Until checkout quoted me $101.25 for shipping to Canada. Neat product but I'm not spending that kind of money when it only costs them 20 bucks to ship it to me. 😂

hydro packs are overrated ...you do not need them in woodlands where most of the people are around hiking and bush crafting...they are only good in the desert or in a prairie situation...other then that they are ballast in my opinion ..why should I carry 3kg of water around when I can clip a canteen on my belt and can find water anywhere around ...
