G1 geomagnetic storm conditions were present overnight as the coronal mass ejection from an X9 solar flare impacted the Earth. The geomagnetic storm produced vibrant auroras, which were seen as far south as Missouri. Viewed in this timelapse from South Dakota, the familiar green glow of the aurora can be seen pulsating behind an abandoned schoolhouse, while planes and wildfire smoke drift in the night sky.
