Lucy, your videos are all so helpful. Re-watched this one this morning, because it has been too long since I've spliced a wire and I have half-forgotten how to do it. :) Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your knowledge!
What a great idea showing it with different colored electrical wire! It really showed how the splice really holds, it never quite made sense before. It really makes the whole thing less intimidating as well. Thank you!
Lucy- How much do you want to back the old tuning out before you tighten the new coil onto it? I learned to do this "the old fashioned way", without a dummy pin, where we back the old pin out 7 half turns (3&1/2 full turns). I want to learn how to do this the way you're doing also.
Very interesting video! My teacher also taught me the same way to connect the strings, to keep the original sound and stability of the piano as much as possible. Are you in the US or Canada?
I do both loops at the same time to see their symmetry. I make one loop larger and thread it from the top through the smaller one. But I think your method is better. Greetings from Poland.
I used to do the string splice as you described, but with this method I can make very small loops. Like all of our skills, it does take some practice. Good luck in all you do!
It was very helpful seeing the demo with the large wire first. Great video, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Excellent video, Lucy. This is one of the best instructional examples of the string splice on RUclips. Great job and thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Great video!
Thanks! There is a learning curve making loops with small vice grips. Good luck!

I back the pin out 1/2 to 1 turn. I always have the hole in the pin oriented front to back.
Again very good video. Thanx... But please use a cloth under your tools so you can lay your tools on it.
You are right!

US.
What a fight strings can be. And they think it's just put a new string on. Congrats from italy
Thanks!

The best😂
Thanks!
Figure 8 knot basically
Yes, but the stiffness of piano wire means we need to make the loops. No right over left and left over right with piano wire.
