Drop a Hispanic last name and your state in Mexico in the comments if you'd like to learn about the history of it. I'm working on full length videos for names from each state.
My man, just got here from your TikTok. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you doing all this job that connects so many of us to their history, origins and heritage. Thank you! Please keep up that great work! Hopefully in the future I’ll finally see one of my last names on your videos haha (none are from Nueva Galicia)
My last name is Villaren and Im the "III" the name prior to that was Villar and they were "Insulare de las Islas Filipinas" per the baptismal records. 3 generations ahead on the Villar maternal side comes the name Maria de los Mapuche. Totally freaked me out as the name Mapuche comes from native people from Peru and Chile, thanks to the Spanish Galleons that sailed between South American and Las Islas Filipinas. Following the paternal Villar line we find a great great great grandmother named Juana Xochitl whose father was Cuayapil Perez de Villar. We know the line goes to Mexico and we know of the linkage between the Philippines and Mexico. The DNA tells us that we are 2 percent Sephardic Jew and 3 percent Latin American Indigenous. Totally blew me away! I appreciate your work and your expertise. Please keep sharing and helping others learn more. The world becomes a more unified place when you begin to realize you descend from people you never knew about!
CABRERA FROM ZACATECAS Thank for bringing a channel like this to RUclips. It will be very popular and I hope it becomes very successful. I can’t wait to watch all your videos.
Hi this is exciting! I was able to trace my family back to 1700-1690s in Guanajuato specifically Silao Y La Aldea area. I've got Cordova, Caudillo, Ramos, Rodriguez, Arevalo and Pacheco surnames. Ramos & Cordova goes back the furthest into 1681based on genealogy records. Hopefully you have one of these in your books, have been looking for missing links crossing us over into Spain or Portugal.
Limited, because a lot of Natives adopted Spanish or French surnames in the 1700 & 1800s out of slavery -hacienda system or intermarriage. I have a French surname but i'm straight 80% otomi. Take a Genetics test. ] I found D1 haplgroup which traced back to Japan. 11% japanese. Most of us in Central Mexico aren't Spanish. The majority of Mexicans that do have spanish or portugese acnestry would have been in California, Guadalajara(upper class) , Texas. even if you did have lineage from Spain your acnestor could have been Ladino or arab moor and had their name change during the inqusition. Medina, Venegas etc.. are Arab origin surnames from when Spain was part of Al Andalusia. Do a DNA first and see where it takes you.
I also would like to know about Reveles from Zacatecas. All I know is that it was first found in Northumberland in England, but I don't know if that is correct. Also Juarez from Nayarit, and Soto from Durango. Thank you!
Love your Tiktoks! Can you please make a video on any of these last names from Michoacán? Vidales, Miranda, Buenrostro, Campos, Flores, Olivia, Sosa, Pantoja, de la Cueva, Mauleon, Cano.
Let me start by saying that I am in awe of your work bro! Im looking forward to your future videos! My family name is Valencia; Cotija de la Paz, Michoacan. Queso and ferrocarril!
Keep in mind. Zacatecas had a lot of slavery during the Porfiriato. A lot of Yaquis and Mayans were kidnapped in the 1870s and sent to work the Zacatecan mines and were given Spanish last names. Also, lots of Lebanese and Middle Eastern immigration during the Arab Isreali war in 1948. If you do come from an Iberian ancestor from before the 1800s, Jerez is the keyword. Jerez in Spain is part of Andalusia which was AL ANDALUSIA . So you would have had Arab Moorish blood on your Spanish side. But Zacatecas was Chichimec territory.
Huizar is exclusive to Zacatecas. It comes from Nahuatl; huitzo, but its origins traces back to Oaxaca. It means lugar de espinas . There is Huizar Rio in El Salvador.
Thank you for doing this. It’s great to see and hear the history. I would love to know about “Malvaez” from the state of Mexico we believe. My grandfather was abandoned as a child along with his baby brother and he did not know where he was born or where his family was from. He was left at the orphanage with his baby brother and his older sisters did not want to take them in. His mother passed and his dad could not handle raising them. The sisters were already married.

The name Portugual is in reference to the Gaulatica Port, Galatia. If you go back further enough before the ottomans, Turkey was actually originally named Galatea/Gaulatia. Spain and Portugal were named Atlantis/Atlantic. The beast of Neptune

I’m from New Mexico last name also Martinez from what I hear my family came from Spain to Mexico City and then to Zacatecas for 2 gens and then on to New Mexico in 1598. The original person to bring the name to Mexico was Cristobal Martin de Serrano he was the blacksmith of Cortes, his sons eventually helped conquer Zacatecas with Cristobal de Oñate, then Hernan Martin de Serrano helped Juan de Oñate conquer New Mexico. The last name was Martin de Serrano originally before it was simplified to Martinez and I believe it’s from Extremadura.
