Q: What is this?
A: Back in 2018, Gravity Falls finally got a box set release. Among many things, all 40 episodes got commentaries for them in which Alex Hirsch talks about the episode, discusses things he liked and disliked about it, reveals hidden moments, struggles and lost stories from the production of the series.
Q: Where can I watch the full thing?
A: You can buy the box set from Shout Factory or on Amazon. Sadly, due to region lock, the box set is only available in Canada…oh, and…you know…the United States too. Unless you have a region free DVD or Blu-ray player, you’re out of luck.
Q: Why are you uploading these?
A: Due to that region lock, many fans can’t watch these, and they contain many interesting stories that I feel more fans need to hear. Thus, I’m uploading them. Not everything of course, but lot of the more interesting stuff. Oh, and also because I’m out of ideas for new videos, lmao.
Q: Why can’t I hear the characters voices in the episodes?
A: These are the commentary versions of the episodes. You’re not supposed to clearly hear the in episode talk. The main focus is what the commentators have to say. Think of it as a podcast.
Q: Why am I reading this FAQ?
A: Either you’re really bored, or I referred you to it because you left a comment asking a question I answered above, and I'm not in the mood to answer it because I'm tired of answering the same questions over and over again. Hey, I'm a human too. And so was Mabel, so shut up, Mabel hater!

I love the cut scene as a scene but as an introduction to Bill as we'd see him I agree with the change. "Deer teeth" really establishes that he's not only chaotic and carefree, but also *absolutely terrifying.*
"Oh that's a great offer, how about instead I shuffle the functions of every hole in your face?"
Another one I don't really see being talked about was the time that he gifted a screaming human head to dipper, even if it was a dream

Especially in hindsight, because he wasn't even physically in their reality at that point.
I’m kinda glad that Bill was introduced the way he ways, he was originally a small random villain but ended up becoming the main enemy in season 2. Still, it’s pretty interesting how he was supposed to be shown in the series!
And he’s still talked about today (Granted mostly because of King but still)

I love that even the animation team were made deeply uncomfortable by the deer teeth. It's a sign of a great sequence when even the creators are giving it the side eye
I love the fact that gideon asks Bill to enter Stanford's mind and Bill reflects upon this words, revises the twins fighting (at least one frame of it) and just says "Stan..." So it wouldn't reveal to gideon or the audience he knows Stanley is not who he says he is.

I much prefer the scene we got. Getting to see who summoned bill and why fleshes out Gideon and establishes their relationship..... we also would have likely harassed the team till they told us how he was summoned.
Yeah, I also feel like "Gideon summoned Bill" would be underwhelming as a "reveal." Gideon would be such an obvious candidate for Bill's summoning that I feel like the fans would've started suspecting all kinds of outlandish candidates and get disappointed for it to just be Gideon again.
Gideon works as a villain because he's easy to dismiss up until he demonstrates his willingness to get involved with the supernatural. And I think showing those moments where Gideon crosses those lines are such great character moments that make him legit intimidating.
@@cromanticheer @Cromanti Cheer it would have been. Not because its bad or anything, but because they sorta set that precident for keeping things from fans for good reason. So for that to be excluded, underwhealming is the perfect word.

“Matt Braly” my god I forgot he worked in GF before Amphibia
In many ways, we wouldn't even have Amphibia without Gravity Falls. If I'm correct, Alex hired Matt to work on the show after seeing some of his work and that in turn allowed him to become such an important member of the show team. Same with Dana Terrace. She was hired mid season 1 and 2 for the show based on again, I think her Tumblr page and stuff. So, in a way, without Gravity Falls and Alex Hirsch, Matt and Dana would never have gotten their first jobs in animation and in turn, may never have been able to pitch and get to work on Amphibia or TOH. They really are the successors to GF beyond just being made from the same folks :P
Without gravity falls, The Owl House and Amphibia wouldn’t exist or at least be great
@@Salza02 And without The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Hirsch, Adventure Time’s Pendleton Ward and Regular Show’s J. G. Quintel wouldn’t have gotten their start. I mean, Hirsch even got his old boss Thurop Van Orman to voice Gideon.
I find Amphibia overrated because the first two episodes were a smash- hit, and then did Anoying Anne go on an epic journey? Nooo, for some reson this girl acts like she wants to leave, but never does. HOP-POP foreshadows things that never happen. I did never give owl house a nice chance and I will but so far the future seems static it trips on the floor.
We should get other people who worked on Gravity Falls, and see if they can end up making a good cartoon.
I've gotta say, the way Bill wobbles back and forth in Matt's storyboard right after coming out of the portal is hilarious, that and many other movements (+ the perfectly round eye) give it an even more chaotic and goofy feeling that I love. I wish I could hear dialogue for that sotryboard.

Bill's introduction was so incredibly iconic that I'm surprised that it was added so late. "Deer teeth, for you, kid," "I know lots of things," the blue-fire handshake, that one frame of him snapping his fingers that shows up anywhere anyone mentions Bill Cipher, his ending ramble...

honestly my favorite gag of the show, if you woke up and saw text like that it would scare the shit out of you but bill decided "fuck it we do a little trolling" and drew a turkey on dippers hand
I guess they got their wish granted in the puppet episode. Bill and Dipper’s confrontation there is really good and probably similar to what his intro would have looked like.
my favourite kind of character has always been an all powerful god that acts like a goofball. i just love the idea of a thing that can do whatever it could ever want, but decides to just have fun in its own sick way with no care about what others think

i like how at 1:00, Bill acts like a 60's cartoon character in the storyboard, and i would love it if he had an aesthetic like that, like, if that was his *thing*
I feel like deer teeth makes him immediate threat whereas with the alternate scene he doesn't really seem that menacing
I love how they stated it was really good on it's own. So many times, scenes are deleted despite being good because it's mostly good on it's own... it's one of the reasons BvS sucked... the individual scenes were amazing, yet put together, it didn't work...
Putting together scenes is like putting together a dish... it's not which ingredient tastes better on it's own... but which one tastes better grouped with other ingredients..

I actually really like the tone shift with the final scene. I don't think the villain should be introduced strictly comedically and I think the tone shift is good foreshadowing for season 2's evolution stylistically.

The scene we got at the end, as the finished product is so much better better than the draft one, at least idea-wise. Introducing your main villain as: ''Haha I will do bad stuff to you for no apparently known reason hahaha try to stop me you stupid protagonist 😛'' is just a really dumb idea in my opinion.

This is honestly a thing I see a lot for a lot of creators and teams, be it a big production or a small team on RUclips. You have an idea, it's nearly set, but you feel that thing in the back of your head like "Does this seem off?" and it ALWAYS happen!

I’m glad Alex Hirsch references Bone! It’s a kinda underrated book series!
I already knew about all of this but hearing it from the producers makes it even better
