  • BACK IN THE MOUNTAINS... AT LAST! Spring has been a bit pants so far... however, I was over the moon to get out on this pair of gentle giants in the Eastern Cairngorms. Famed as "easier" Munros, they offer an accessible and straightforward introduction to the high mountains of Scotland.

Another great video Calum. Thanks for sharing it. If you feel energetic, another great walk from the same car park is to go up the other glen to Broad Cairn, then follow all the munros round (6 in all) until you reach Driesh. Really fit people can add to these in various ways, but 6 munros was enough for us. May or June are the best time for this walk as it requires a lot of daylight. Save it for a day when the weather is good. Route finding on the high ground in this circuit would be very challenging in poor visibility, and a wrong turn could have serious consequences. That said, there are several good escape routes from this walk, if needed.

Thanks so much pal. From the summit of Driesh, you really do see just how big Broad Cairn is... its a massive lump! That sounds like quite an epic day indeed, I'll need to add it to my future adventures.

Great video Calum! Am considering getting this exact microphone for my own hillwalk videos so was interested to see how you got on with it. Keep up the great work! D

Thanks Duncan. On first use, the Rode Wireless ME is quite impressive. I've not dived too deeply into the intricacies of it yet, but I'll hopefully be able to show that in a another video. Thanks for watching :)

Thanks so much Janice. The paths have been upgraded tremendously! I don't remember them being as good as they were... Kudos to the path builders indeed! I'm delighted to have brought back some nice memories for you. Have you been getting out of late?

Great video Calum. I was meaning to do these, but I'm a bit under the weather with a bad "bug" at the moment. The sound was great with your new microphone, really crisp and clear, not too much wind noise in fact. But you should have got the one with two microphones and one receiver. It was surely a nice chat between the two of you, if only we could hear what your companion said 😉
BTW: That's a great idea with pot noodles in a thermos, what brand is that? (the thermos) and where can I get it?

Sorry to hear you are poorly at the moment pal. Hopefully you recover soon and are able to get back out in the hills. Thanks for your kind words... I did look at the other options from RODE and other brands, but the added expensive of a second Mic/Transmitter was just out of my financial reach. I might need to start a "GET CALUM ANOTHER MIC FUND" haha! The brand of my Thermos is Thermos. There are loads of off-brand alternatives, but in my experience THERMOS is the best I have used.

@@calumpaterson123 Thanks pal. Aye it's a drag, but I hope I'm soon ready again. Went on a long drive today from Scone to Loch Turret just to get out a bit. It was a bit wild up there with a cold wind. If I'm fresh tomorrow I might go for "The Gentle Giants" - hopefully the weather stays dry. Even if I only make it to the waterfall it will be worth it, I'm sure.
