CanditoTrainingHQ Wow, that was an amazing vote of confidence. Hopefully my channel lives up to the hype for all of you out there who decide to check it out. Thanks so much Jonnie! As much as I love what I've done thus far with PTW, Jonnie's channel is easily, by far, the single most important, most influential, and most beneficial source of powerlifting information on the internet. I don't think this is my opinion, but rather a fact. Show me one other powerlifting channel that is closing in on 100k+ subs. I'd be willing to bet more people have become aware of, and decided to do, powerlifting programs, powerlifting meets, or just become aware of great powerlifters and great resources in general because of Jonnie's work than any other single source out there. Anyways, I really appreciate the shout out, but, more importantly, I really appreciate what you're doing here with your channel in general. I would have NEVER EVER even started my channel if I hadn't seen what you were doing first. If that isn't proof positive that Jonnie's channel is doing great things, I don't what it is. SO SUPPORT THE CHANNEL MOTHAFUCKAZ!!!
Wow, thank you so much Izzy. That is far beyond anything you have to say to me, but I am truly grateful you genuinely feel that way. I believe we are going to make a real difference when it's all said and done and truly cause a cultural shift within at least a little slice of the fitness industry by bringing powerlifting to another level. This is just the beginning, no doubt about that.
CanditoTrainingHQ The 2 best channels on youtube are Izzy's and Candito's, by far. Love the respect you guys have for each other, and for growing the sport.
subscribed to you before this video. agree with candito. ptw and candito are my "go-to" lifting channels, mostly cause they actually lift and are not 60% vlogs. getting tired of all these fucking vlogs cluttering up my feed from fitness channels.
Jonnie, I'm running your strength/control program currently. To make a long story short: I've trained for a long time but had breaks all the time and not paying attention to nutrition. One of the awesome aspects of your novice program is the mental break from constantly adding weight. I do add weight on the regular and the paused movements every week, however - it's varied. I've ran starting strength and 5x5 and after a while you get so beat up constantly trying to out do your last workout. Sure it's a slower process than 5x5 or SS but I haven't stalled yet and my lifts go up like clockwork every week. You are a blessing. I will donate a hefty sum once I hit intermediate and will hop on your 6 week.
***** bruh, if you don't get the reference then you don't get the reference. You look like a fucking assclown "correcting" him when he was referencing The Elliott Hulse/Brandon/Omar youtube drama. Technically, if you wanted to argue semantics, Brandon used 2 h's. So, if *you're* going to correct someone who was quoting someone else, get it right. #getlearned
***** Where was your reference mang? You corrected him by giving him the wrong spelling. Pretty sure that doesn't give you clearance to correct others and not get the same. It was ebonics... wouldn't it make me a semantics cop? All I did was take the light off of the dude you were correcting because you were just as wrong. Thank god that Bruce Banner gave me physique advice doe Backyard Powerlifter NO MANE DONT 5REAL, IM KOOL, I AINT MENT IT, SOMETIMES IN LIFE!!
This video is such crap! I started doing towels rows last night and im already deadlifting 595 for 8 reps. Today ill start doing push ups off a basketball while balancing my feet on two boiled eggs and holding a 2 pound dumbbell with my mouth and tomorrow I'll be benching 315 easily. It's all in the mind muscle confusion connection communication concentration construction copulation bros.
Its awesome you plugged Powerlifting to Win the way you did. I found his channel a few months ago and was surprised that it was soooo relatively unknown. Excellent information, but very few people watching. You're a good guy Johnny, making the people putting in good work known.
I subscribed to Izzy's channel when you first mentioned it back when he first reviewed your program and only had a few hundred subs..crazy how it's grown so quick, and I'm sure it'll blow up even more after this strong endorsement.
It is awesome to see, and I hope this does help that happen! Great to see real info gain popularity rather than just a contest for who has the most swag or who can come up with the most enticing (and possibly misleading) video titles.
I have been subbed to Izzy for a while now and I have to say his RUclips channel and website are some of the best powerlifting resources out there. I look to you, Jon, Izzy, and Bryce for almost all of my information. Huge thank you to both you and Izzy for all that you do.
Jonnie, I am in my sixth week of your strength program and I have increased my squats by 40 lbs since I started your program 12 weeks ago ( this is my 2nd go round). Excited to see where my bench is tonight and deads on Saturday. I was stuck for so long. Thanks for giving me something that works for me!
This is perfect, just what I needed. It's great to have someone experienced coaching us beginners so that we can avoid making unnecesary mistakes. Thanks so much Jonnie.
Being a software developer, going through college and university and then on to a full time job meant sitting at a desk majority of my day. 18 months in to my career the weight was starting to pile on, so thought I best get that under control. Squatting was one of the hardest forms to get right for me - instead of going head first in to it, I started doing a lot of stretching to improve hip flexibility and squatting with just the bar, and the first 4 weeks was a 4 day split of upper body and lower body workout. It was actually also your How To Squat video that helped me the most with proper form.
Started Jason's 5x5 program this week. Just got back from my first workout B and boy that's a killer I also have your 6 week program saved for further down the road. Keep up the good work, i love your advice!!!
your linear program has done me wonders. started off at around 140 bodyweight. squat 205x6 deadlift, 205x6 and bench 130x6. fastforward 4 and a half months later....17 years old, 390x6 deadlift, 325x6 squat, 200x6 bench at 165 bodyweight. all beltless! will be purchasing a belt soon really hoping to hit a 405 squat at 170 bodyweight before dieting down to like 150-155. cant thank you enough jonnie
Pretty good timing for this video. I started doing your strengh/control program this week, after stalling on 5 x 5. Hoping to start pushing my numbers back up again.
Hey Johnny! I love that you gave Izzy a shoutout! I subscribed to him a few days ago just because I stumbled along one of his videos and found it incredibly well thought-out and thorough. Since then I've seen most of his recent videos and holy sh*t, this guy really knows what he's talking about! Good to see some support for him! Keep up the great work! :-)
What I think would be really helpful is to watch a video of all your pre-PL meet rituals. Such as stretches, warm ups, & mental cues. Thanks man, keep doing what you're doing.
Hey Candito. I was an Elliott Hulse fan for this past year. Since he retired from RUclips, I looked for another place to go. I found your channel. You don't have Elliott's charisma, but you're A LOT MORE informative. Which is fucking awesome. Thanks for your work!
Another great video Mr. Candito! An it's cool to realize i did the right thing with my younger brother since he wants to get into lifting but really only dabbled in the gym during highschool, so instead of just having him hop into blaha's 5x5 with me I had him take a month to just learn the form of every exercise. Plus Ibrecord everything so we could look at it an give him firsthand tips on where/when things need improving. It's now week 5 of "practice" an he can damn near break parallel on his squats so I think next week I'll have him start adding weight an get on the program with me
Izzy defintely does deserve it! One of the things I love about now getting a lot of attention is that I can influence these things and get the real ppl like Izzy out there.
Agreed! Izzy has some of the best break downs in basic and advance subjects when it comes to lifting. I was surprised too when he only had 3,000 subs when I subbed cause Izzy really had great info.
ArakkAttack Candito and Omar Isuf are probably the best for information based content imo. If you're interested in powerlifting youtubers, also check out Alexander Kang Ben Rice Chelsea Lifts Brandon Campbell and Nick Wright has switched to PL too. It's cool watching him and Omar both chasing 5 plate squats, even though Omar is for sure gonna get it first. Those are just my favorites though.
For guys saying you won't put on much muscle on a strength program. I ran Jonnie's 6 week program and linear strength/control program and have made wicked strength and size gains. If you're natural and looking to gain size and strength quickly, I could not recommend it enough. Great video as well man.
I must mention, In my personal experience: Jonnie Candito Strength/Hypertrophy it's WAY BETTER than Stronglifts with isolation, I mean Blaha 5x5. - Better Recovery - Less time in the gym - More variety = fun - Better develop physique with solid strength gains.
The way I look at it is there are so many people falling for BS in this industry, that if we can get them over on the good side there will be plenty of people interested for all of us to form a community and all benefit. No need to fight over the tiny slice of the industry we have, rather grow this to something substantial together (cheesy I know but really what I would love to see).
i wish i had money so i could donate to your website. i feel like i've finally found and understood what lifting weights is about thanks to your program
CanditoTrainingHQ Novice powerlifter here, ~7 months training. I was previously using a full-body 3x/week program, but I don't think my work capacity was built up enough for that. (I'm a bit older, so I have that going against me) My progress was stalling a lot and I was having trouble with feeling recovered. I switched over to your Linear Strength/Control program about 4 weeks ago, and it has really reinvigorated my progress. I am able to increase weight on the main lifts every single session. After 8-12 weeks, I am planning to try new 1RM on the big four lifts (OHP is important to me) to check my progress, and maybe consider trying one of the other Linear variations for the next 8-12 weeks.
Between CanditoTrainingHQ and PowerliftingToWin I've learned so much about powerlifting and I can't recommend these two channels enough. I've watched every video on both channels, and I suggest anyone who is interested in getting stronger, and getting better at the big lifts, subscribe to these two channels, and watch as many of their vids as possible. :)
I did SS when I first started out, and still think it's a great routine for someone going for bodybuilding or aesthetics. However, I'd only really follow it for 1-3 months, just to get a foundation going, before starting to throw in isolation work like curls. Just my opinion on it, though.
Balaha's 5x5 program changed my lifem went from screwing with 15 pound dumbbells and bench 20's to actually putting some respectable weight for my age. ( im 15 right now) definately recommend it, if you do it properly you will see gains fast
This is exactly what I did after not lifting regularly for a several years. 5 days/week, light weight, full body, ~45min each session. Fantastic for never experiencing the DOMS.
That would be pretty sweet! If PhysiquesOfGreatness were to submit that I would be more than happy to throw it in lmao. Although I'm not sure how Bruno could actually say "Hq" hmmm...
CanditoTrainingHQ This is actually a really really great video. Can you still make the video about height and it's role in weight classes and that topic?
Hey Jonnie, I'm new to your channel and I've gotta say you give really useful advice, provide pretty damn inspirational vids, and you're down to earth as fuck. Also, as a rugby player your whole low frequency/high intensity training is really relevant to me, infact, at the end of the season I plan on doing your 6 week periodisation strength program (which is free, like, das generous as dicks m9). Keep up this good shit.
It seems that Jason's program is the best for a hybrid-style program (want to be strong with a physique). Thanks for the video, Johnny! I would love to see a detailed video or article on recomping. I typically run it LeanGains style, but it's a very complicated process (easy to miff it up so that you go weeks without accomplishing either) so I am always looking for any tips!
I've been subbed to Izzy for a while now. Pretty good content indeed. Alan Thrall (Train Untamed) is pretty damn good as well. He doesn't put up a ton of vids but the ones he did put up are good. And he has a great sense of humor. His how to Squat, Deadlift, Bench press are great.
I think, in my opinion before the internet gets butthurt, that the Southwood program by Dan John is awesome for total beginners and then moving onto one of Bill Starrs 5x5 variations would serve people well for some time.
Technically Jonnie, I owe you an apology. Because about two weeks ago I stumbled across Izzy's channel and thought, how have I not seen this guy before? Why hasn't Candito mentioned him even in the slightest? Is it because of certain previous things or has he missed a relatively small channel because of how focused he is on his content (I mean that in a good way). And then you basically give him the Jean Claude Van damme (the most epic) of shout outs. So happy given I was blissfully unaware of his channel only 2 weeks ago. Hopefully at least half of your subscribers at least check it out because the guy is top class. Respect for Jonnie even more. Arse licking over.
This was coincidentally right on time! I'm writing my gf a new program to get her started into serious training for body recomp and increasing her athleticism.
interesting point regarding the minimalist training and aesthetic focused trainees....i would almost argue that all trainees should build a strong foundation in the big 3 lifts since general hypertrophy and strength go hand-in-hand...of course i agree with your point about bicep curls etc...i would just say for anyone to go from 0 days in the gym to having an aesthetic physique would natty require at least 1.5-2 years and i think dedicating the first 6+ months towards building a solid strength foundation and developing the technical skill set is essential
I agree and disagree. My point is really that I see no detriment whatsoever in adding a few basic BB style movements onto the basic foundational work. Imo the goal is simplification with the same distribution of work towards your goals (same ratios among work per bodypart just perhaps less exercises overall). If you want to look like a BB'er, train all parts evenly, reduce total exercises/volume starting out to keep it simple. But something like SS is not even a foundation for BB imo. It's just a severe imbalance in terms of physique unraveling until the trainee finally steers it to a more balanced approach (purely speaking about physique ofc). There is simply no reason to dramatically train lower body that much more than the upper body if asethetics is the goal.
CanditoTrainingHQ You do know that in Rippletoe's Starting Strength book, he says that you can optionally add in accessories 1-2 months or even weeks into the program. He even gives example exercises in the book to add in such as chin ups, pull ups, dips, skull crushers, front squats, stiff-legged deadlifts and even cheat curls etc. Just to name a few.
gugigaga Whenever I make judgments on programs, it's on the program itself as explicitly layed out as that is what is most commonly followed. There are footnotes to every program regarding how to possibly make it work for different situations, but those that are not built explicitly into it cannot be properly analyzed from this type of perspective (me giving general information/recommendations). Hence I just have to go by the standard most up to date templates detailed here - startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/The_Starting_Strength_Novice/Beginner_Programs
CanditoTrainingHQ so long as the BB work doesn't detract from the foundational exercises I supposes it's not too big of a deal. It's interesting that the original 5x5 from Regi Park in the 60s was not geared towards strength specifically.
CanditoTrainingHQ I'm currently using your linear program. I prefer this to SL or SS due to the increased recovery time and lower squat volume per week. I find it much easier to follow this program than SL or SS simply because of this fact, and progress might be *slightly* slow, but it's a program I could actually keep consistently. One thing PTW mentioned was the fact that you only set PRs once a week. Would it be better if I only did the Control days once per three weeks? (So Week 1 = ABAB, Week 2 = ABAB, Week 3 = ABCD)? This could lead to faster progress while also maintaing form accuracy. Though I'd like to check up with you first.
Started this today after a period on 5/3/1. Looked at the first day and thought 'fuck no i'm never gonna get 4x6 at that weight'. Got it though and can see how pushing the limits is going to help quicker than working at 70-90% training max.
I weight 140lb. I train push/pull 2x each week and 1 Day for accessories. It hast even been 8 months and I put over 70 on my bench and over 60 on squat/dead/power clean. I like to do 12/10/8/8or6 heavy sets however rarely to hypertrophy
Right now, I'm recovering from minor injuries due to improper back squatting (turning them into good mornings). From February till May, I did a beginner 5x5 strength programme and would like to reset the weight and start over in September when classes start again. Would you recommend I also start fresh and do the 3-5 weeks of "mobility work" before adding on weight?
I did Ice cream fitness 5x5 an think its a good program, after wanting to focus more on powerlifting with plans to compete I switched to Izzys novice program, gotta say its a great program.
Weird... I never do assistance exercises like bicep curls.. Everything seems to just grow the more I perform the "big 3". Good ol Bryce helpin me with programming
CanditoTrainingHQ Wow, that was an amazing vote of confidence. Hopefully my channel lives up to the hype for all of you out there who decide to check it out. Thanks so much Jonnie!

Hands down one of the best beginner programs.
Couldn't agree more about PTW. So underrated and cannot wait to see his channel blast off. Such a fricking amazing resource.
Really glad you mentioned form, I was so happy when I watched Izzy's video, most people can't just find balance.

CanditoTrainingHQ That guy that made the HQ intro deserves a lot more viewers.
I wish I could add another like to your videos each time I watch them Jonnie. The interwebs and RUclipss still needs to evolves to their final form.
One of your best videos yet.
I actually started Greyskull LP a while ago based on PowerliftingToWin's recommendation. Suits my needs so well. Great channel.
Agreed! Izzy has some of the best break downs in basic and advance subjects when it comes to lifting. I was surprised too when he only had 3,000 subs when I subbed cause Izzy really had great info.
3:04 now that's a grinder.
The useful channels are finally taking over RUclips! Bye bye bro science!
Yes Absolutely, it's a new era!
What other channels would you recommend that provide information in a similar vein to this channel? I'll go sub to them :).
CanditoTrainingHQ Its a beautiful thing :)
And great seeing your putting Izzy out there, much needed/deserved
He is the best source/channel
ArakkAttack Candito and Omar Isuf are probably the best for information based content imo. If you're interested in powerlifting youtubers, also check out

Helpful approach for folks returning to lifting after a big layoff, as well. Thanks for posting.
For me, the best programmes I've used are Wendler 5/3/1 for strength and Gironda 6x6 or 8x8.
How is the 6x6, and 8x8 going? Have u seen strength gains? Looking to do a 6x6, 8x8, and 10x10
I've been working on rebuilding my lifts even on your program and its a big hit to the ego.
For guys saying you won't put on much muscle on a strength program. I ran Jonnie's 6 week program and linear strength/control program and have made wicked strength and size gains. Your videos are always incredibly informative, and you seem like a humble guy.
i haven't even gone to his channel yet but i'm going to sub just because i trust you jonnie
Good guy jonnie promotes program's that conflicts with his own in order to aid his fans and people or products he believes in

Candito, Izzy, and Omar are the 3 best fitness youtubers, period!
Izzy's beginner programs are the shit. IMO, it combines all of the good aspects of the routines listed.
although im not a strict powerlifter i really enjoy your videos for knowledge on powerlifting
Özil is that you?
Indeed, PTW is a very solid channel with great info! GJ Izzi
i wish i had money so i could donate to your website. i feel like i've finally found and understood what lifting weights is about thanks to your program

Jonnie absolutely keeping his promise he made. Thoughtful replies to so many comments.

Love this channel! Really informative and clear, this guy knows his stuff. Helped me out a lot.
Great talk, Jonnie.
I'd love to see Bruno from POG do a HQ intro, man that would be hilarious.
That would be pretty sweet! If PhysiquesOfGreatness were to submit that I would be more than happy to throw it in lmao. Although I'm not sure how Bruno could actually say "Hq" hmmm...
CanditoTrainingHQ Yea, could prob get you or Chris to voice the HQ, but would still be funny to see him look at the camera, if he could :P
Very informative vid. Only thing is I would choose Greyskull over Blah Blah and Rippetoe.
Another great vid. Super relevant as I just started helping a buddy begin lifting. Also couldn't agree more on PTW.
damn them eyebrows
what do you use? fertilizer?
Slick Jason Blahuehue pic you thrown in there Dito. Making them Kai Green gains.
Spider on the closet door at 6:45....
Ahh!!!
so glad i watched this video because i am just starting. thanks man
CanditoTrainingHQ This is actually a really really great video. Can you still make the video about height and it's role in weight classes and that topic?
I'm retired.
I ALWAYS support natural athletes! I just don't like those phony steroid losers!
Like Jeremy Hines, he is an inspiration to me. He just pulled an 800 lb deadlift lifetime drug free
Probably confronting a steroid loser, sounds like me!!!
Reasons AGAINST STEROIDS They are NOT okay! These are reasons why!
i've been going the candito linear for 4 weeks now and have gained 10lbs on both squat and pull and 5lbs to bench per week. 750kcal def.
works
Izzy does have a great channel! Solid Vid Jonnie.
great video jonnie. super informative and keep doing what youre doing.
Good observation Jonnie, people on the Internet go onto the other opposite extreme of the Gym Bros
Great tips as always, thanks for the motivation and the video!
Strong Kai Greene grapefruit action and strong awkward stare at jason blaha at 6:37
i agree with your assessment on izzy's channel. yours and his are really the best channels for solid strength training info.
I subbed to powerlifting to win a few weeks back and been really impressed. Glad candito agrees!! :)
Great video,I wish you did more of these.
This video has aged very well to say the least.
yea back in da RUclips!
Back up in dis!
3:09 that knee shake.
This was coincidentally right on time! I'm writing my gf a new program to get her started into serious training for body recomp and increasing her athleticism.
So informative. Thanks Johnnie!
interesting point regarding the minimalist training and aesthetic focused trainees....i would almost argue that all trainees should build a strong foundation in the big 3 lifts since general hypertrophy and strength go hand-in-hand...of course i agree with your point about bicep curls etc...i would just say for anyone to go from 0 days in the gym to having an aesthetic physique would natty require at least 1.5-2 years and i think dedicating the first 6+ months towards building a solid strength foundation and developing the technical skill set is essential
Dat Blaha/Kai picture though hahaha
Started this today after a period on 5/3/1.
Looked at the first day and thought 'fuck no i'm never gonna get 4x6 at that weight'. Got it though and can see how pushing the limits is going to help quicker than working at 70-90% training max.
I weight 140lb. I train push/pull 2x each week and 1 Day for accessories. It hast even been 8 months and I put over 70 on my bench and over 60 on squat/dead/power clean. I like to do 12/10/8/8or6 heavy sets however rarely to hypertrophy
Johnnie you're a real smart dude
Not even Izzy could outlift that promotion!
Oh yea...was already subbed to PTW...I am straight OG..was in b4 it was cool!
Powerlifting to Win Master Race checking in.
love the eyebrows bro
Right now, I'm recovering from minor injuries due to improper back squatting (turning them into good mornings). From February till May, I did a beginner 5x5 strength programme and would like to reset the weight and start over in September when classes start again. Would you recommend I also start fresh and do the 3-5 weeks of "mobility work" before adding on weight?
Good info mane. And that blaha picture = ded
And I started with very low weight however with deep and steady form unlike others
First time in your channel, first 10 seconds, I laugh my ass off.
Haha when Hancott was "unknown"... well he was still better known them me right now :'(
I did Ice cream fitness 5x5 an think its a good program, after wanting to focus more on powerlifting with plans to compete I switched to Izzys novice program, gotta say its a great program.
Weird... I never do assistance exercises like bicep curls.. Everything seems to just grow the more I perform the "big 3". Good ol Bryce helpin me with programming
hey Jonnie, can you grow a beard and if so do you think it will increase your lifts?
The fact Josh said HQ just got you a like 😂
Strong Jason blaha picture.
