      @CanditoTrainingHQ you mentioned you keep total reps similar throughout the training cycle while increasing load and manipulating sets / reps.
      QUESTION: What's the reasoning for this instead of lowering total volume while weight increases (like traditional periodization)?

    A tip for the discipline section: I keep a dark ink pen at home, with which I mark down my exercises and sets. Then carry a blue ink pen with me in the gym with which I write down the weight and extra notes. That way I can't change things written down on the fly and I can review my gym notes as if I were getting them from a client.

    Very, VERY interesting video. The point that resonated with me the most (I have to go back and redigest some of the technical elements) was the fact that you have to believe you're smart in order to coach yourself. After a recent back injury, my own sense of confidence has taken a beating, and now, as I'm coming back, I'm finding it harder than I did before my injury (which was not related to my programming style but rather to just plain carelessness) to get pumped up about what I'm doing. So your point was very timely and well-received. Thank you JC

    • @CanditoTrainingHQ
      @CanditoTrainingHQ  3 года назад +3

      Exactly! It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when confidence is lost. Decisions are often cut short under the assumption that it won't work anyways, and even source material is often skipped since you assume a non-expert can't handle it. It's important to be aware of limitations, but sometimes self-doubt is overly emphasized in the evidence based community. I'd rather be overly confident and then adjust vs being fickle and directionless.

    • @ResistanceQuest
      @ResistanceQuest 3 года назад +1

    I am a lifting enthusiast and I had an injury that forced me to quit lifting for many years (The most depressing and darkest years of my life for I didn't have an understanding of how pain worked). Then I decided to lift regardless of the pain then I learned about back pain recovery stuffs mostly from your channel and the Barbell medicine Team. Then I opted for rehab coaching from BBM crew which improved my self-efficacy a lot got me back to lifting fairly decent numbers recently. But then I realized that I want to really go through the entire process of lifting, so I am planning to compete in a powerlifting meet in the near future ( I am 27 as of now and want to do it before I Turn 30), not for the sake of competing but for the sake of going through the complete process of what it feels to lift under pressure especially during competitions.

    Holy shit, your discipline section is just what I needed to hear. I'm so used to "discipline" being about getting someone to go to the gym. That's RARELY my issue. My issues is I always slowly "ratchet up" something (maybe RPE, or maybe volume) such that I'm OVERDOING IT, for a good chunk of my cycle. I thought I had good discipline, but I actually need more discipline.

    Once people realize that programming for yourself is the most efficient way there is to ensure progression while at the same time being conveniently free and a great asset in terms of personal development the battle will have already been won.
    Also LMAO at people trusting an AI to handle their volume/intensity/frequency... They'll take over the world before they manage to accurately set-up a proper PPL template

    • @dblinkzz
      @dblinkzz 4 года назад +4

      well, I'm not sure about that... you know that people need to have some basic powerlifting programming education before they create a program right? now, if you think about it, most AI systems are based on general guidelines already provided by other experienced coaches recommendations and frameworks (like juggernaut or RTS). They're obviously programmed a little like shit (like a 7x10 DL day lol), but I suspect what people are paying for is for an interpretation of what's already in a book (since we humans are probably really lazy to digest the information and put it into practice without a good example first).

    When you mentioned the pissed off looking coach standing next to the anxious lifter, I got so many ideas in my head. Lol. I just imagine a coach standing there thinking about how he will punish the lifter when he doesn’t meet expectations and then have the lifter standing next to him having a ptsd episode of what the coach has done to him in the past when he has failed. 🤔 💭 it’s punishing time. 😬

    I cant remember the last time I saw someone on IG hit something as a single @8 for their heaviest single in prep for a comp and then hit a PR based off of that single in the meet, while not ever touching heavier than that @8 load in the gym. Ill see full out 1RMs taken in the gym and then the same lifters will go to the meet and either hit a 3rd attempt at a lesser rpe than their gym single or they will just be weaker from being under recovered from that max attempt. You'll ask them and they'll try to justify it like theres some magical stimulus to going to rpe 10 that will make them stronger in the meet which is the exact opposite lmao. Just generally on all comp and barbell variation lifts going above an 8-9rpe doesn't really yield a lot of benefits.
