I love this song. Robert Palmer’s gimmick of the background band worked miracles for him. It put him over the top fame wise. He was a total turn on with clothes sharper than razors and a stare that would stop you dead in your tracks. He dropped dead from a heart attack in his early 50s. He did another song with the girls backing him named “Simply Irresistible”. You will like it! I love Robert Palmer.
❤ this song❤ your show. If you liked Robert Palmer ? Your Love Peter Gabriel's sledgehammer🎉🎉😊. please give it a go❤😊 I think you're really enjoy it.❤😊❤❤
Yeah so sad RP died like that , I dug the hell out of him . He was in the band Power Station too with John Taylor from Duran Duran and they had a few good songs too.
Me too. I look at her version as a response to Palmer's also. I loved that a woman could play that role and be just as SASSY. I think were perfectly represented between the Two Versions.
Nobody - even back in the 80s - ever assumed, the ladys were actually playing these instruments 🙂 Them gems were there just for the beauty of it. Optics only. Robert Palmers actual musicians (who are not in this video) were awesome.
And in Shania's video the guys were total eye candy, not on the beat either. They even parodied the lip lick--I'm surprised BP missed that. I'd kind of like to see him re-watching Shania again, now with the context.
She parodied because this is an ICONIC video - cannot overestimate how HUGE it was. It was the Glamazon Supermodel Era and a brilliant move on his part..
Rolling Stone magazine voted Palmer the best-dressed rock star for 1990! He wanted the music to shine through without anything getting in the way. Growing up surrounded by military uniforms, he thought a simple suit - his uniform, would mean the focus would be firmly on the music. “I just always felt comfortable in a suit and tie,” Palmer said.
I’ve been married for 35 years. One of the funniest things happened connected to this song. Like 30 years ago, I came home one day and when I walked up to the house this song was blaring!!!! I walked in and my husband was dancing in the living room “like no one was watching”. I just stood there until he turned when he was dancing and saw me. It was hilarious.
I read one of those Reddit stories, she asked if she was the Ahole because she was doing housework in a sleazy, I want you, outfit & her bf/husband came home unexpectedly with his parents! He ripped her up and down because she liked to clean the house, dressed like that and with the music blaring, like no one was watching! She was living her life & he wasn't supposed to come home. TLDR: what we do when we are alone & think, they'll never know😂...
This was huge in the MTV generation. The song is great mostly because of the video. But Palmer was really talented and has a great collection of songs.
Robert Palmer was just the pinnacle of cool. "Every Kind Of People" from 1978 "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor)" from 1979 Yeah, different albums. He released albums in 1978, 1979, and 1980. He did 15 albums. But also, he was lead vocals for The Power Station. They were awesome.
Love this song from Robert Palmer, it came out in 1985, some other favourites are 'Bad Case of Loving You', (1979) and 'Simply Irresistible' (1988). Great reaction, thanks so much. 😊😊
i was a heavy metal dj & i took a chance playing this song & everybody in the venue was bopping & headbanging to it -which allowed me to be more experimental by playing stuff that wasn't out & out metal, like 'rebel yell' & 'money for nothing'!!
@@normankennith7919 Love both these songs, and one of my favourite Dire Straits live videos is 'Sultans of Swing' from the Alchemy tour, it's amazing! I love heavy metal as well, Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, great bands and great music!

Robert Palmer had a long career where he was able to make a living, but he never popped big until this song. The backup girls gimmick made this video explode on MTV, and everyone knew who he was. My gf at the time and I went to a Halloween party in costume, and everyone immediately knew she was a Robert Palmer girl. Then, they would say something like, "Oh, so you must be Robert Palmer. Cool." Check out Bad Case of Loving You or Simply Irresistible.
You MUST listen to Roberts "I DIDN't MEAN TO TURN YOU ON" & "SOME LIKE IT HOT" by ROBERT PALMER w/THE POWER STATION ...🔥🔥🔥🔥 THE POWER STATION were a Brit-American 1980s/1990s rock/pop music supergroup originally formed in NYC & London in 1984. Made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar).[1] Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved on the studio side as recording producer. 👍🥂
This song came out in 1985, Shania’s song came out in 1997 I believe. Trust me we weren’t thinking of “aesthetics” back in the day. Nothing was politically correct or politically incorrect, it was a wonderful time!
Robert Palmers Addicted to Love was released in January1986 and Shania’s Man I feel like a woman was released March 1999. Totally correct no Politically correct garbage and “Aesthetics” definitely had less than nothing to do with it. It was all about the sex appeal. I had a black mini dress and heels like this. I was all about clubbing back then. This came out the month I turned 21. I was all over it 😂😂❤
THIS is the video that everyone was talking about when you reacted to Shania Twain's: Man, I Feel Like A Woman!! It was a "spoof" on this video!! But: THIS was a BANGIN' SONG, back in the day! EVERYONE rushed the dance floor to this one!! Robert Palmer's music was SO GOOD!! HUGS, BP!!
Great reaction again. Robert Palmer's Simply Irresistible has one of the best lines in music. She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went. Love what you do. Thanks!
This video is iconic, and often parodied. Weird Al had women dressed like this (but with moustaches) in his "UHF" video (in addition to also parodying this song as "Addicted to Spuds"), Bowling for Soup dressed up as the women from this video in their "1985" video, and a commercial for Emerald Nuts has the women from this video attempting to "assimilate" a guy who fell asleep (because of not eating Emerald Nuts). Also, the women return for Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible" video, and then again for Palmer singing "Simply Irresistible" for a Pepsi commercial.
Robert had a lot of songs in the mid to late 70's. Johnny and Mary, Sneaking Sally Through The Alley, Every Kind of People, Bad Case of Loving You. In the 80's he really came into prominence with this song, Simply Irresistible, and then joined former members of Duran Duran for a supergroup called Power Station and had aa couple of great hits- Some Like it Hot, Get it On (Bang a Gong). Definitely worth checking more out!
This was a big hit on MTV and on the radio for Robert Palmer. He also did a song called "Simply Irresistable" with the same theme for the video. But, early on Robert Palmer had some bangers with the likes of: "Bad Case of Loving You" "Every Kind of People" "Riptide" "Some Like It Hot" and then with the Power Station he had hits with: Lonely Tonight" "Get It On" and a few others. He had an amazing voice, for sure.
I have read reports over the years about Robert Palmer and they all have a recurring theme. Everyone who worked with him said he was an insane perfectionist and the nicest person they ever met. I loved this song and video when it was first released and I still do. Wish I had met him. RIP Robert.
I was about 15 when this song came out. I had a huge crush on him that I hid from my friends. He was older and his type of music wasn't what we were listening to. But he was F.I.N.E. fine!
This video truly captured a moment of the 80's, and DEFINITELY set Robert Palmer up for LIFE! LOL And good on him, he was a hard worker of his trade, it was nice to see him hit it big with this one and get the recognition he deserved.
Love that you reacted to this! Yes, Simply Irresistible, Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor) And with The Power Station; Some Like it Hot, Robert is missed🕯
From what I heard, Robert Palmer recorded the song in front of a green screen. He had no idea that the director of the video would insert the "girl band" behind him. This was intentional, as the director wanted Robert to give an authentic performance with no "distractions". This is what adds to the iconic nature of this video. 😂
Holding down the all-important beat is the Chic rhythm section, Edwards on bass and Tony Thompson on drums - the same guys who inadvertently built the foundation of hip-hop when the rhythm track of Chic’s “Good Times” was incorporated into Sugarhill Gang’s 1979 hit “Rapper’s Delight,” the first widely popular rap song. Thompson (who also worked with Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers on David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” album) plays a thwacking two-four rhythm - showing off with an open hi-hat flourish on the three that gives the song one of its key hooks - cranked up to booming volume in the way that only ‘80s drums can be, and makes it crunch even harder by playing as far behind the beat as humanly possible. Edwards makes this slow and very stompy song dance with a simple but amazingly funky bassline that anchors the riff while also making it elastic (his bassline dances exponentially better than the models in the video). That grinding guitar riff, of course, is the center of the song. While Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor contributes a squalling, impressively dumb solo at the end, the main riff comes from Eddie Martinez, who played the screaming guitars on Run-DMC’s groundbreaking 1984 rap-metal anthem “Rock Box.” Keyboardist Wally Badarou (who not only worked with Grace Jones and Herbie Hancock but played the stunning synthesizer solos on Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” and “This Must Be the Place”) brings those sweeping keyboard hooks and the subtle, skittering sequencer that underpins the song’s rhythm.
@@WhodatLucy Interesting facts for today’s people but……..I sure you if you expose all of that information then the video couldn’t be so famous. Was the time when the music videos were EVERYTHING. My favorite Robert Palmer Song(s) are his trilogy. Consisting of the songs "Sailin' Shoes," "Hey Julia" and "Sneakin' Sally through the Alley." It's an amazing set piece.
Glad you read the comments ! I wanted you to see this after Twain ::::: This 75 year old lady used to sing and dance all these. Love all type of music.
I Didn't Mean to Turn You On. Another great by Robert Palmer. Check out his stint with Power Station featuring John and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran and Michael DeBarres(RIP) on drums SOME LIKE IT HOT!
I was 7 years old when this came out and I thought the lady to the right of Robert was my Aunt Linda because she looked just like that. She always wore her long dark hair, pulled back like that and red lipstick . Now every time I see this I think of her ❤. RIP Aunt Linda
If I recall correctly, all of the ladies in this video were top European fashion models at the time. This video was so hugely successful, that it was followed by Simply Irresistible, with even more women in it, not to mention the famous "shewing!"
Every woman in the 80s had that outfit. Black short dress, black pantyhose, black pumps, red lips and nails. Mine had a lower neckline. Hair was bigger and curly! Friday night, at the clubs, dancing until the lights flash … good night! What a great time to be young, and in love. 😍😍😍
This song was sold by the video and yes the music is great. His breakthrough came in 1978 with (Doctor, Doctor....) Bad Case of Loving You. That was an insane instant smash and remains a classic to this day. R I. P. I can only imagine the great music you'd still be making if you were with us. His next song you should react to... the one titled Simply Irresistible off of the same CD.
Robert Palmer is possibly the most underrated artist of all time; one of the few legends of my lifetime that I never saw live. The original version of 'Every Kinda People' is one of the top 5 songs ever recorded, for me.
This is my favorite Robert Palmer song. I remember he died in 2003 because John Ritter died September 11th, and Palmer died couple weeks later on the 26th.
Robert Palmer was lead singer in our local band The Mandrakes , he lived in Scarborough, he’s so cool , but when he spoke he was Broad Yorkshire. He was 15 when started the band , great 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Robert Palmer's music in the 70s was a lot more bluesy rock and was very good. These videos he made in the 80s were iconic, for better or worse. This is his legacy, but the music is still good.
You’re so awesome! Robert Palmer was a soft blues artist, Died of a bad heart. But you could do a deep dive on him. He also was part of power station which did a remake of T-Rex Bang-a-gong and harvest for the world was an excellent tune!
Other great Robert Palmer tunes... Bad Case of Loving You (early hit) Mercy Mercy Me Some Like it Hot ( with Power Station) And, of course, the follow up to Addicted to Love...Simply Irresistible (with one of my favorite lines, "She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went").
Robert Palmer had some jams. When this came out it was super popular and there wasn't another video like it. When i think Robert Palmer this video automatically pops up. He was a sexy man. I crushed on him lol
Your observations about the women not playing the guitar, are exactly correct... which is why Shania did what she did. She is all about girl power & wanted to point out the ridiculousness of using pretty faces like they are props, instead of humans.
Boy did you get that one wrong. The actual story is that Palmer was 'instructed' by his record company to use women as prop's to glamorise his records. He poked two fingers up at the record company by filming this as a parody. Shania Twain's song and video is a parody of a parody. Something that seems to be lost on some.
Being a 17 year old high school junior when this video dropped? Priceless! 🤣 it didn't matter what my buddies and I were doing if this video popped up on MTV, it had our full attention! 🤣
My God I love Power Station, should definitely look it up… main players from Duran Duran that wanted to play rock and roll love it!! Also, god damn I love me some Robert Palmer, slapping since the 70’s RIP Robert
i knew robert palmer's guitarist, donovan mckitty, in 1980, before this song came out, when donovan was in a band with bass player, charlie tumahi, ex be bop de luxe & nicko mcbrain, ex trust & soon to be iron maiden's drummer!
On my honeymoon in Los Angeles, we were sitting just below the stage at a taping of Midnight Special. Robert Palmer was performing this song and he spit all over us! Charlie Daniels Band was also playing.
Great reaction BP, another Robert Palmer song you might enjoy is "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor)" also you should check out Tina Turners version of this song live - so energetic
It's an absolute classic from the late great Robert Palmer. He used 'no reaction' models because he felt women were being used as sex objects in music videos of the day, and this was his way of highlighting the problem. RIP Robert Palmer, gone way to soon (like so many others) 🙋♂
R.I.P. Robert and " Simply Irresistible " another great song of his ❤

This is definitely a jam and you need to listen to more of his songs
This is my favorite Robert Palmer song. I remember he died in 2003 because John Ritter died September 11th, and Palmer died couple weeks later on the 26th.
Every Kind Of People is a sweet song by him…..and his cover of marvin gaye’s ….mercy mercy me/ i want you…..is pure class
Would blast this on my stereo and car radio !!
Brother, you have such a universe of beautiful music to explore in 70s and 80s music. Your world is gonna grow so much and you are gonna love the ride.
Ahh love Robert Palmer !!
Best looking backing band in pop history
Robert Palmer is great. I had the single and it was a picture disk record. This and Simply irresistible changed the world on MTV.
Robert Palmer was lead singer in our local band The Mandrakes , he lived in Scarborough, he’s so cool , but when he spoke he was Broad Yorkshire. He was 15 when started the band , great 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Nobody in the world thought these young ladies were playing. Absolute pinnacle of music vodeo time.
Simply irresistible by RP... nothing but bars.
Johnny and Mary is my all time favourite of his. This song is timeless. Great singer gone way too soon.
This went #1 on MTV and radio
Fabulous song…..🥰🤍🏴
Robert Palmer's music in the 70s was a lot more bluesy rock and was very good. These videos he made in the 80s were iconic, for better or worse. This is his legacy, but the music is still good.
You’re the only guy looking at her hands!!😂
Right!!🤣😂 ... young in the 80s peepin at those girls 😉😬🫣
And the dresses are sheer!! The dance accentuates this. You can see 👀. Look closer y'all! 🤗
TFF
You’re so awesome!
Robert Palmer was a soft blues artist, Died of a bad heart. But you could do a deep dive on him. He also was part of power station which did a remake of T-Rex Bang-a-gong and harvest for the world was an excellent tune!
Other great Robert Palmer tunes...
Bad Case of Loving You (early hit)
Mercy Mercy Me
Some Like it Hot ( with Power Station)
And, of course, the follow up to Addicted to Love...Simply Irresistible (with one of my favorite lines, "She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went").
The sweetest thing I ever heard my Dad say to my Mom was that the ladies in this video reminded him of her.❤❤❤ She was gorgeous!
Loved this song growing up.... Great reaction ❤
One of my all time favourites from my youth so thank you ❤
One of my favorite all-time songs
You know, you never stop learning.🐞
If you like the ladies in this video you'll like them even more in the video Simply Irresistible another great fun song from Robert Palmer
Hi, Black Pegasus , love your reactions. ❤
My God I love Power Station, should definitely look it up… main players from Duran Duran that wanted to play rock and roll love it!! Also, god damn I love me some Robert Palmer, slapping since the 70’s RIP Robert
Robert Palmer, Sneakin Sally Through the Alley. Definitely worth a listen.
Glad to see you doing oldies but goodies. 70's 80's and early 90's. Love it.
Simply Irresistible please!!
He was Sooo COOL!!!!😎 😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥🔥
A long time ago he was in a band Vinegar Joe, with Elkie Brooks. The man been around. Which one of us is the fool, kinda antidote to this song.
Gee....Been dancing to this tone a lot back in the days, makes me feel old now!😂😂😂
i knew robert palmer's guitarist, donovan mckitty, in 1980, before this song came out, when donovan was in a band with bass player, charlie tumahi, ex be bop de luxe & nicko mcbrain, ex trust & soon to be iron maiden's drummer!
One of the ways you know this was/is a big hit is that Weird Al Yankovic did a parody 'You're Addicted to Spuds'. I love both Robert's and Al's songs.
There have been a couple of video spoofs of this. It's fun to notice them.
One of my favorites of Robert Palmer is "Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley".
He was in another band called Poer Station with Andy and JohnTaylor (brothers) from the band Duran Duran. I love their song Some Like it Hot.
So many artists love the concept even Pink Floyd. Robert cracked the egg on this one.
I remember watching this on MTV back in the day. It was epic.
On my honeymoon in Los Angeles, we were sitting just below the stage at a taping of Midnight Special. Robert Palmer was performing this song and he spit all over us! Charlie Daniels Band was also playing.
In the early days Robert sang with Elkie Brooks in a band called Vinegar Joe. Elkie had an amazing voice too. RIP Robert. Absolutely gone too soon.
So many great songs from Robert!! ❤❤
Great reaction BP, another Robert Palmer song you might enjoy is "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor Doctor)" also you should check out Tina Turners version of this song live - so energetic
🖤RIP Robert Palmer and thank you for all the great music you left us. Simply Irresistible has the same "back up band" it is a banger.
I loved this song back in the day! Thought the video was cool too but now it’s just funny 😂😂 ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Nice! Yes, Shania jacked it and it's all good.
Looking for Clues is my fave Robert Palmer track. The guy had one of the best rock voices ever.
It's an absolute classic from the late great Robert Palmer. He used 'no reaction' models because he felt women were being used as sex objects in music videos of the day, and this was his way of highlighting the problem. RIP Robert Palmer, gone way to soon (like so many others) 🙋♂
I loved this song, thx for playin'😉
