This is dedication! Hats off to everyone who participated! I wish I had had the resources to just tag along..........Props to the guys from Hot Rod magazine for putting this all together. Just think, they get PAID for having way too much fun! Thanks, guys..................Art
great stuff ! been a while since i have had a chance to watch something like this and let me tell ya it gives me goose bumps to be able to watch this. i just love this stuff and have hot rod mags dating back to the the 70's. love motortrend and want to thank you for posting so many quality videos that just make me feel like i 'm a kid again back at the racetrack racing again. thank you so much. SR
Two incredible racers who built and maintained two of the baadest cars to ever go down the dragstrip. Hope today's future racers learn and have the class that these gentlemen have. They are both winners. Thanks guys.
I love Larry's comment about the sheriff. I was following him for about 30 miles before I lost him at a light... just before he got pulled over. Needless to say, the whole time I was following him on two lane blacktop thru Texas, we rarely dipped below 85! Yep, he is the fastest both on and off the track! :)
Man, these cars are crazy! I went to one of the Mopar Nationals competitions, and saw a funny car run a 6.6, and when the guy finally came on the throttle full, you could FEEL the sound of the engine. And these are street legal cars, running high 6's! Respect for these guys, definitely.
no comments, wth, glad you guys did this little clip. Drag week has always been such a cool idea to me and im glad to see its still going strong. Keep it up guys, and oh yeah where's the next road kill?????
Thanks to all at HRM for the coverage during drag week for those of us not able to be there. It was great to follow along to see if the King kept his crown. They are catching up to him so can't wait till next year. I bet the combatants aren't quite ready for the carnage again yet.
A true car fanatic doesn't compare vehicles who have different purposes, but appreciates them in their own right. The veyron was built to beat the top speed record for a road going production vehicle. The cars in this video were hand built through countless man hours to live by the 1/4 mile. Both are eaqully as amazing.
you guys should talk to SPEED channel and try to turn this into a TV show somehow. Something like PINKS All Out but instead of just showing races show the traveling part too, and focus on all the classes instead of one. That'd be pretty cool I think. Awesome video!!
That was AWESOME! But please tell me, did they change out their rear differentials before going on the street? I had a 68 chevelle SS with a 427ci and 4.88:1 rear dif strip car that I put on the street. I could barely pay for gas (leaded premium back then) after replacing the turbo 400 tranny 5 times. At least on the 5th replacement, a guy that does hot rod transmissions built it rock solid with shift kit, valve body, and a few other tricks. I miss that car and those times.
"i had a small visit with a sheriff. what did he say? he walked up, looked in the car "well, at least i didn't have to chase you down." what did he pull you over for? what do you think he pulled me over for!" LMAO XD
Man it has got to be wicked awesome to drive a 2500 horse power car on the road talk about the ultimate vacation for a gear head. That would be my dream vacation.
I see Jeff Lutz and his 57 Chevy ran a 215mph 6.90 pass at a NMRA Lone Star Shootout street race last month in Baytown Texas ! That is faster than any NHRA Pro Stock has ever run.
One of the few pictures from Drag week 2012 with Dirty Red in it (1959 F100 Pro street class 6th place) I was sitting on the cab at midnight at a check point
A low elapsed time is down to a good launch (=low 60 ft. time). The difference in trap speed may be down to the car with the higher speed having traction issues at the start and having more horse power. Did you also notice Dave Ahokas running a 7.00 at only 194 mp/h? It would have been great if they showed us their timeslips so we would be able to see where the difference is (i.e. 60 ft., 330 ft., 660 ft. and 1000 ft.).
Going on this trip is on my bucket-list. Just as a spectator to see these cars in person. Building cars that can do the 1400 miles AND run like this seems almost impossible.
I wonder what kind of MPG a 2,500 HP car gets on the highway. Especially one that's geared for the strip. Great contest! Truly a "run what ya brung" event!
3 seconds is huge in a drag race. Power to times is not a linear graph, it gets exponentially harder the faster you go. Going from 200mpht o 210mph is a ridiculously harder than 50mph to 60mph.
Probably because these cars are some of the hardest accelerating cars in all of automotive racing. THE fastest if you consider the top classes like Funny Car and Top Fuel, among a few others. Nothing beats such awesome displays of horsepower.
It's not just the speed, it's the time, he got going that fast at the end because the car has so much top end power, but his launch wasn't as good as the best times. It's not just HP, it's traction too.
Once you're geared to run 200+, its not like you've got 4.11s out back. Figure 200 at 9-10,000 rpm is 3000 at 60 mph. I remember the Six Seconds car used to take the whole blower off between stops, and the black Camaro from years past would cut the blower drive belt off before hitting the road and install a new one at the next track.
Those American Street Car Class just smashed the whole project for the Bugatti Veyron that take them so many years to make one super fast car in the streets with 1001 hp
There's plenty of videos on here of 6 second Supras. It's not hard to look for them. By the way, what car in this video is running the factory engine? I mean, if that's what you were comparing it with.
I'M a veteran 1/4 mile jockey from the late 60s. These boys have redefined the term. "Fast!!" For me. These numbers are mind boggling. Jeeeeeeezus!!!
This just might be the best show on the Motortrend channel.. Thumbs Up Guys..
This is dedication! Hats off to everyone who participated! I wish I had had the resources to just tag along..........Props to the guys from Hot Rod magazine for putting this all together. Just think, they get PAID for having way too much fun! Thanks, guys..................Art
Not my kind of racing but I can definitely admire the dedication and passion of these racers. Kudos to them.

I'm more of a track guy than a street guy, but you still have to respect these guys! This takes balls!
I love Larry's comment about the sheriff. I was following him for about 30 miles before I lost him at a light... just before he got pulled over. This is by far the best car guy video on youtube
Sorry guys. The 5500hp is definitely a typo. The '57 Chevy is actually 2500hp.
Classics never die no matter if they are Muscle cars or imports.
I've never cared for drag racing, but this video was awesome...thanks guys.
I'm always amazed that these '60's era body style bricks can go this fast. Very cool!!
i have waited for weeks for this video, and it was worth the wait!! this is the best automotive showdown ever. now lets see some of the other classes!
Why doesn t such great videos like this going into cinema. That was awesome!
no comments, wth, glad you guys did this little clip. Drag week has always been such a cool idea to me and im glad to see its still going strong. Keep it up guys, and oh yeah where's the next road kill?????
Jeff Lutz's 57 Chevy is just superb.
Larry is one bad man. Gotta love Jeff's car also.
Man that was neat watching how Larry Larson & Jeff lutz fight for 1at place. Thanks!

All of your videos are just great!

Great video. Very impressed with the HOT ROD
Well made short film, really enjoyed it.
best competition on the world, but i dont think it is a good thing to have those old promods on this game. Thanks for this amazing video
I'm not really a drag racing fan, but that was AWESOME!!!
I normally am not in to drag racing, but you guys made that very interesting!
No problem. Thank you for the fact checking!
thanks guys for posting videos and keeping us updated keep it up love the videos
Great show, you guys never fail

Waited the whole day for this.
New Motor Trend Channel.🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Superb video guys. Would love to do something like that here in the UK. Maybe we could see what Andy Frost and Red Victor III could pull. :-)
It's incredible that you can actually drive these cars on the road. 7 second street cars... insane.
Jefff and Larry are doing it right. Full steel body is the right way.
GR8 show! Thanks guys
Amazing! Simply amazing! Thank you, Hotrod Unlimited! Keep up the awesome work!
also gotta love the 56 and 57 chevs so serious power in both
Can you guys do this for all of the classes? That'd be awesome
Two lane black top.All over again.Right on!!
"i had a small visit with a sheriff. what did he say? he walked up, looked in the car "well, at least i didn't have to chase you down." what did he pull you over for? what do you think he pulled me over for!" LMAO XD
really enjoy this video guys, top job.
to see two tri-five chevy's running next to each other was pretty awesome.
Love to see well built cars. They are rare these days
Man it has got to be wicked awesome to drive a 2500 horse power car on the road talk about the ultimate vacation for a gear head. That would be my dream vacation.

Man oh man those Big Blocks are something..
212+mph in 7 seconds flat by that huge 57 Chevy is insane !
Awesome video!
The Nova's last launch was amazing
REALLY want to see the next roadkill now! I've been waiting so long!
" ran a disappointing 7.07 " in a street car with a license plate, that is why people love this !!!!
A low elapsed time is down to a good launch (=low 60 ft. time). The difference in trap speed may be down to the car with the higher speed having traction issues at the start and having more horse power. Did you also notice Dave Ahokas running a 7.00 at only 194 mp/h?

Another Amazing video guys. I would love to do drag week
Going on this trip is on my bucket-list. Just as a spectator to see these cars in person. Building cars that can do the 1400 miles AND run like this seems almost impossible.
Those launches rock !
Enjoyed that. Thanks.
More airflow i think mate, plus they constantly rebuild the engines so doesnt matter what gets in them. getting ideas for Gmod?
7 sec toyota supra is my style but these classics do look sick! Want a classic Camaro my self.
Awesome episode!
GM pushrod power baby!! Pat Musi makes some unbelievable power plants.
I wonder what kind of MPG a 2,500 HP car gets on the highway. Especially one that's geared for the strip. Great contest! Truly a "run what ya brung" event!

Thanks Brah
bummer for the nova sweet ride still though! lots of power

Larson to me seems like abit of a gentleman's racer, very understated. Lutz looks and sounds like his ready for a reality tv series
Agree fully about Larry, but you don't know much about Jeff if that's what you believe.
+Tunechi Lee Just the way he goes on about a few things. But yes, I know very little about Jeff.
+MrLincoln87 If you haven't, check out episode 16 of roadkill. Jeff is all over that episode and maybe you can get a better feel of who he is.
Tunechi Lee -you probably already know this by now but Lutz is one of the top racers on "street oulaws"
It's not just the speed, it's the time, he got going that fast at the end because the car has so much top end power, but his launch wasn't as good as the best times. It's not just HP, it's traction too.
We have Santa Pod, Elvington, East Kirkby, Shakespeare Raceway, York Raceway and finally how about a mile run at Bruntingthorpe?
'How much horsepower are you pushing?' 'Oh, around 5,500.' 'Thats pretty respectable. I'm running 250. Turbocharged, of course.'
Awesome flick......thanks for sharing
Damn, this was awesome. Hope to be apart of this next year....
That Camaro looks so badass...
Awesome video
u guys are the best from motortrend and im so glad someone did not say "first"
I think they should have a diesel class at drag week
Cool video! Thanks!

Well said.
amazing video. amazing cars and driving
Yes thank you ... my point is that saying a tenth doesn't do justice to how close it actually was and I feel like he probably misspoke.
Does Larry Larson's car have a different gear knob for each gear? I've never seen that in a car before, what the reason for it?
Another great vid
What day where you all in Tulsa. Was it sometime last week and this morning? Because yesterday it rained
Cool video!
Those American Street Car Class just smashed the whole project for the Bugatti Veyron that take them so many years to make one super fast car in the streets with 1001 hp
The Veyron SS has exactly *half* that amount of horsepower, 1200hp. This is automotive insanity at its finest!
I would love to own a 7 second street car. Very nice
There's plenty of videos on here of 6 second Supras. It's not hard to look for them. By the way, what car in this video is running the factory engine? I mean, if that's what you were comparing it with.
Its not something I would personally do. But interesting to watch. Good vid
This was awesome!!!
Where are all those Hondas in the Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock classes? When they can compete there, then they're badass.
that 57 red Belair really needs a wheelie bar, in every run he lifts the front end up so high!!
VERY impressive, considering that they drive from track to track too!
Now i wanna do this. It would be a blast, how do you sign up?
