I have been watching vids on changing tires on F150s and you are the only one to show the lift point on the front tire. When I bought my truck, last week, there was mention of an arrow on the frame, but no explanation that it was a hole in the frame. Thank You!
This video is still helping people, like me for example. I'm a first time F150 owner preparing to drive cross country and wanting to confirm air pressure in my spare. Key learnings from the video and first experience. 1. It actually is tricky since you can't really see what you are doing. 2. There is a guiding funnel of sorts underneath the bed that starts ~9" in from the bumper. The actual engagement between the big end of the rod within the funnel and the turning bolt occurs a little more than one rod length in, thus the need to use TWO rod lengths minimum. 3. The video is correct that you have to point the rod slightly left. I learned I also needed to aim the rod slightly upward. After these things, easy peasy. Thanks again Weekend Woodsmen.
Can't disagree that a simple bottle jack is easier to use in general, but since a guy needs all the long extension rods for lowering the spare anyway, now you're just adding more crap. I've used the scissor and for occasional use its just fine, and has a larger footprint for uneven or soft ground (those bottle jacks usually need a damn 2x4). Plus I don't have to find ways to mount the heavy bottle jack in addition to all the rods and lug wrench. Keep it simple.
+1 this. Ran out of gas and found this out the hard way. You need the funnel if you arnt at a pump or have a gas can that goes far enough in the tank to open both flaps
Great job on this. Funny thing is, I came looking for any tricks to get the jack back into its mount behind the seat, as I was having difficulty. FYI - if you have the jack completely bottomed out (which is what I assume most people would do before putting it away) the jack will not seat in the bracket correctly. Raise the jack a little (maybe 1/2 inch) before stowing it, and that allows it to fit/stow correctly into the mounting bracket. Cheers!
Very helpful point about putting the rod at an angle when lower ing spare tire otherwise I would have utilized my entire four letter word vocabulary for sure. Thanks for your public service message & cool shirt.
Thank you for the easy to understand video! My issue was trying to figure out how to jack up the back because the frame rails don't go that far back and I have a 8ft bed. I'll do it there on the axle like in your video. Thanks again!
PS if your jack becomes lodged in the truck compartment after a prior use, make sure to raise the jack to release it. It will not come out sometimes if not raised after sliding it to the left.
Thanks so much for this. I was sticking the wrong end into to hole and it wouldn’t lock in. Lift point info was great. I also had to guess which key to use to open the hole. Mine was inside my key fob. Knowing that may help others.
thanks for the info! great video! oh BTW, the small white funnel is for gas! in case you run out and need to fill from a can, you push it into the fuel filler neck, then pour from the can.
00:57 the funnel is for when you use a jerry can to fill up the gas tank. You'll need to insert it into the opening before you can transfer the gas from the can to the truck. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video on how to use the jack and spare tire tool. My trouble is getting to the back of the seat, where all those items are located. We never did get to the spare, and ended up just getting the flat one fixed. I'm still looking for a video to show how to lower that back seat. THanks for the good info that you have provided.
To get the back seat to lay down there is just a pull tab. There is one pull tab on the bottom of the seat to allow the seat to fold up and give more floor space and there is another pull tab on the seat back that lets you pull the seat back down.
Thank you. I'm late to the party cuz just bought a 2019 XLT in October of 22, Used, one owner, (but, I'm in Chicago, the og owner took delivery (and traded it in) in Quebec). So the owner's manual is in French, only, in French, and the truck goes metric first. So there's that. Thank you again. PS Have a USA all English Ford OEM manual sealed on the way, be here in two weeks.
Saving this video for future use. Wouldbt have known about angle to put bar in nor about the place to put the bar to lower spare. Had my truck 2 yrs and barely decided to find where it was at lol.
As Kevin Moskal says the funnel is for filling your gas tank with a gas can. DO NOT TRY TO FILL WITH THE NOZZEL ON THE GAS CAN! It will get stuck and is very difficult to get out. Also it would have been nice to see you actually jack the vehicle up. My jack hook failed while jacking as it seemed I over torqued the hook connector to the jack. I wanted to see the effort you used to jack the vehicle. I'll keep looking, thanks for posting
@@WeekendWoodsmen Same here. I fought that damn hole for at least 20 minutes and this was the video that came up with a good title. 5 min later the spare was on the ground. Thank you SO much!!!!!!
Yup. Wasted a good 30 min on the side of the road trying to figure out how to drop that stupid spare tire. I was ready to give up and call a tow when I found your video.
Actually the funnel is an extra replacement guide for the tool to lower the spare. I guess if the original gets brittle and breaks you have a replacement in hand. With the spare removed crawl under and see how the little funnel guides the tool in
Yeah but the problem is HOW DO YOU JACK UP THE TRUCK!!??? The rail is so far under the truck that there’s no longer room for the tool to make a full turn and cause the jack to raise up.
For me I had to use the full length of the stick, it is like 4 feet long then fully assembled, so I had no problem jacking it up once I found the lift points
Fin guys at ford must be huffing the glue in the parking lot at lunch OMG why is there 15 steps to getting to the jack? imagine doing that on the side of the road
@@WeekendWoodsmen what is wrong with you Ha take it to the shop 60 bucks on the lift that's crazy I don't believe someone would change their tires with a scissor jack

This is a great video. I appreciate it. Another tip I heard someone say is ditch the scissor jack and get a 3 ton bottle jack from Harbor Freight.
totally agree - they make life way easier
Thanks for the tip! I'm going to do that as there's a Harbor Freight right down the street! Those scissor jacks suck!
I keep a big jack in the truck. More for my boat trailer, but would double for the F150 too.

The funnel is for pouring gas into the capless fuel filler if you need to use a gas can.

Do you know after rotating the tires do you have to reset anything to do with the tire pressure monitoring system?
Thanks
From my experience no, you don’t need to reset anything

Still on the side, that jack is a death trap, got it 1/2 jacked up and it slipped out.

The fat end will not connect inside the spare tire comp.
If you have the angle correct it will connect if you have the same setup. You can NOT go straight in, you have to put it in at an angle as shown
