I have watched this many times. One of the best films made in the eighties -- I don't understand why it isn't more highly regarded, or for that matter why there aren't more films about this important part of US history instead of the dumb Westerns. Thanks for the upload.
The "Recruitment" scene should already given you enough clue already. Every single country in this world want to tell everyone how everyone are unified for the greater cause to make their country greatest. But they will also doesn't want to tell the truth on the actual cost and how not everyone want to die in mud and blood whilst those sent them to die just enjoy fine dining. A film showing something like this bound to get burry real quick even in the land of "free". So there are no surprise for me in a least at all.
Great movie about real facts. The director and all others upheld the genuine scenes of those days of revolution. Really I can visualize those days of America living in front of my eyes. Each and every scenes and dresses carts and guns and everything everything as if carried forward upon our eyes lively. Absolutely enchanting movies about people struggles and survival against injustice and exploitations. Great movie. Nowadays Hollywood has forgotten to make such types of magnificent movies of real life which have human elements and human qualities that can enrich our humanity love power of struggle and ambition to win any unfavorable situation. 11.11.23.
Yes that was always the trouble with the video cassette..tape and sound distortion and partially out of synch!… But it’s the only version available and is a remarkably good film….IN PARTS!!… ( Donald steals the film )..
I think this movie is an amazing piece of art…long live the revolution…only two countries in the world have declaration and victory for freedom ; one The American revolution and second the Bangladesh war of independence! Don’t know how I missed this epic Al Pacino masterclass…most underrated epic movie, nothing less than The Patriot ❤🎉
This movie was savaged by the critics. I understand what Al Pacino was going for with his whispering instead of talking, being just a quiet guy, wanting people to leave him alone... but it doesn't work. I think someone dropped the ball in post-production. Otherwise this is like a darker, more realistic version of the Patriot.
" like a darker, more realistic version of the Patriot." I remember watching this with my mum years ago and I had already seen the Patriot before that time and pretty much I was thinking the exact same and my mum said something along the same lines during the closing credits.
I have seen this movie with a different end!! Daisy was alive at the end with a scar on her face, and she and Tom met each other. Lat scene was their hugging.
Sensational! Much busier than, but much the same feel as Martin Sheen's film, One Man's War. Well done to the makers, and thanks for sharing. I didn't know about this film. The earlier scenes made me think about the Borderers who had emigrated to the colonies, the antipathy they must've felt toward the Crown, and what fighting for their lives, again, must've been like.
Fantastic movie, Today, it is a pity that the United States, which gained independence from the tyrant, attacking on weak country USA attacked on Iraq that there are dangerous weapons, attacked on Afghanistan in the name of a false war against terrorism, fingering in Ukraine against Russia, After the defeat in Vietnam, USA did not learn his lesson.
The Russians are responsible for the criminal policies of their government. They support a war of aggression against the Ukrainian people, the destruction of cities and villages, the killing of civilians, and the looting of Ukrainian grain. I see how Putin's Russia is turning into a Nazi state. And the atrocities in Bucha, Irpen, the destruction of Mariupol and many other crimes resemble the practice of genocide. The Russians would pay reparations for decades for all the evil that they brought to our land.
I loved that film when it came out in 1985. Nastassia Kinski was wonderful in it. The critics back then dismissed "Revolution" as a "confusing mess". Well, FFS!, war IS a confusing mess!!! It's great to see this film got a late reappraisal. It's a masterpiece. Even if Annie Lennox' mini cameo left something to be desired.
Would hv been a good movie but for the soft unintelligible mumblings of his lines by Al Pacino in the midst of the ruckus of the start of a "revolution" it's just hard work to listen a pity😢
I know this movie from the past and always liked it very much. The ending is great, when the revolution won and the hero wants his money back. Right in that moment, as the new, free state got "started", they were already some rotten elements inside, that began to corrupt the system. One hint. If you liked this movie and wish to watch more similar content, there is a very good, modern mini series with this background. "Turn - Washingtons Spies". And one more super series : "John Adams".
This is the first time I am seeing this movie, war! How a father connecte with his son and share thirsty hungry, excellent story and screen play, thank you from India I will subscribe your channel
Revolution... is a British historical drama movie (directed 1985)... wherein fur trapper Tom Dobb (Al Pacine) reluctantly participates in the American Revolutionary War after his young son Ned (Dexter Fletcher) join the Continental Army as a drummer boy against his father wish. Later his son is captured by the British and taken by the strict Sergeant Major Peasy (Donald Sutherland) to replace dead British drummer boys. Dobb attempts to find him, and along the way, he becomes convinced that he must help fight for the freedom of the Thirteen Colonies, alongside the disgraced and idealistic aristocrat Daisy McConnahay (Nastassja Kinski). 🥸
When the movie was made, Al Pacino was at age 45 and Nastassja Kinski age 24... Donald Sutherland was age 50 and Dexter Fletcher age 19... funny side informations about that 🤓
If you look closely at 25:14 you will see that the "musket" is actually a .45/70 Springfield breechloader circa 1870's.There were plenty of period flintlock muskets and rifles in this movie but it was common to provide breechloading firearms( sometimes with dummy flintlocks) in early movies. "Zulu" had LeeMetford boltaction rifles to pad out the correct period Martini/Henry rifles. You could go on---I saw Winchester M95 leveraction rifles( a WW1 Csarist contract rifle) in a Russian made Napoleonic period film--sorry, cant remember its name. For me( a historical accuracy gun nut) these non period firearms do not detract from the movie. The battle scenes were quite well done. I enjoyed first watching "Revolution" 30 or so years ago and enjoyed watching it again recently.
Great Britain was a very small country yet it conquered America, Canada, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Palestine, the list is endless what the British Empire did!!!
What is this version? It's missing the end.?????????????? I thought he spots the black made lady and he follows her. Finds Daisy. ??? Haven't seen since the 80's but that's the way I remembered it ended.
Good setting, excellent actors, great outfit. I only found that stream of Tom's thoughts from the off a bit annoying. You either show things on screen, or you make an audio book. And the recurring sound of fighter planes is really unnerving. Apart from that, I really enjoyed it.
Interesting. . . I spent around 3 months close to Mt Isa during the late 70's on a cattle station mustering that whole time. Much the same experience as this fella. Even though it was spinifex country, the cattle did extremely well. Big difference to where I am today in the Philippines where they tend to tie their cattle up with a nose rope. That makes them much quieter to handle.
The only thing I learnt from this movie is that the Continental Army forced minors and other individuals to be recruited into their army. Just like the British Army. For that - I deeply reject the attitude by both of them. Count me out.
was common back then to hire minors for drummer boys, all armies did that, including french and rusians also... oh and i believed the fleets had something called powder monkeys (little boys no more than 7-8 who were tasked with bringing gun powder barrels to cannon crews). they were the highest paying jobs in the armies, due to high risk and if the boy managed to survive somehow, he could opt not to continue in the army when he became an adult.
This why I never vote and join in ANY GOVERNMENTS, politicians criminal organizations and the fucked up policy. To TERRORISM. AND TREASON ALL NATIVE LAND, for GOLD, and these terriosts are till murdering people to all other parts of the world . New world order. Maori been treason since 1840 but Maori is and always been sovereignty since 1835 . It all about a family's who wants to rule the world . And control people's. Royalties and banks. I'm Maori but this is my aunty queen Victoria and her poses did all this world wide.
This movie excels in direction, acting, the gradual flow of the storyline, and most importantly the overall setup which gives the feeling of societal turmoil during the Victorian era US. However, the background narration is more of a barely audible whisper, and that perhaps, is the biggest TURN OFF for this otherwise classic movie. It was absolutely annoying to continuously play with the volume button.
I wish they didn't over do the narration inflection movie makers,it makes it hard to discern and feels like your dragging out a story. AI is going to become extremely popular for one reason in particular. That reason not to many cooks milking every fast to obserd limits.
Working it way down to the lowest denominator. Why risk money on a film that has a high chance of flopping, when you can just churn out junk, with little chnce of failing.
Al Pacino just got better and better acting, throughout his wonderful career. Truely one of the greatest Hollywood discovered. Love his movies 😊😊❤

what a great movie, so sad the current ones don't stand a bit compared to this, and this is Pacino in his best..

In deed a more realistic darker version of The Patriot! I amazes me that this film gained so little attention.

What a brilliant movie, thanks for the upload.
sooo realistic.
Great movie showing the dark and realistic aspects of the War of Independence. It flopped in the States but was quite a success in Europe.

Great movie but the sound is shocking sounds like jet flyers above need to cut the sound
F-18 fly by.
Yes, but that's authentic. Of course they had jets during the American Revolution.
Great movie.
Great Alpachino.
Wot, no Frenchies ,unbelievable.
No matter what they tell you wars are not between the good and the evil. This thing is a fairytale
The Revolution was about money and taxing the merchants, not Liberty.
How is this a fairytale?
U don't tell me!
You won nothing your just slaves to the money men
Super movie to me nice movie to me
Where there is oppression, there is resistance.
Where there is oppression, SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!

Fantastic, mind blowing movie. Thanks for the upload
This is like the American revolution but with a Vietnam lens to it
25:14. Man has a percussion cap rifle which was not invented until the 1820's.
the gaps between the rows is also insane.

Can the sound of planes(?) Could not hear the words over spoken - not good for people hard of hearing. Otherwise really good movie
I remembered John Gano on this part, the chaplain of GW 1:34:13
There were no "stretcher bearers" in the British Army before WW1
