    Stuttering.
I hate when characters unrealistically stutter.
    “I-I-I-I-I w-w-want t-to s-s-say s-so-sor-sorry 🥺”
    This it real stuttering :
“I want to - i would like- sorry.”
Stuttering is usually when characters change what they are saying mid-sentence.

I totally agree on changing up tropes. I feel like tropes make a book super predictable and I don’t like how these days so many books rely on super stereotypical ones.
I think for me tropes like enemies to lovers, bodyguard x protected, grumpy sunshine (these just came to mind) only work if they don’t focus too much on what the trope entails and instead give a new perspective or twist.
A good example is „a taste of gold and iron“ by Alexandra Rowland which is a love story between a prince and his guard. But it focuses more on trust, honor and the ethics of their relationship rather than idk a power dynamic and forbidden romance. It’s hard to explain but I just felt it’s more subtle and actually focuses on the consequences their relationship will have on their lives.
I just feel like often it’s too much in your face. If you constantly remind the reader that x trope is being used it kinda feels like a caricature to me.
Like in Love Hypothesis it is mentioned all the time that mmc is so grumpy and broody and big and only likes black and the fmc is so cute and bubbly and tiny …
(Idk why this got so long, I’m curious if anyone agrees)

Ok. You blew my mind. Which is so rare when it comes to writing advice…… I consume writing tips like it’s life sustaining h2o but I’ve never even heard of what you said about getting your characters drunk. Because I think even more than emergency situations, different substances can make peoples true colors show the most, and who they really are comes out. So the brooding character who shows the side of them when they are no longer inhibited by their sober ego teaches you soooooo much about who they really are, and etcetera etcetera

I disagree that less details in general make it more interesting. I think cherrypicking and highlighting the more interesting details is key. Like I have a lot of issues with the writing of Six of Crows, namely the pacing but also the world itself, but one thing she does do well is develop the city interestingly. Like using only a few but impactful details, like phrases that speak to the culture of the country as a whole. You don't need to lay down the whole history of the city, just sprinkle some details, nod towards it. You know? Her worldbuilding as a whole isn't the best, but this aspect of it is perfect.
But less details in general? Not for me. In my opinion, if the reader has to do all the heavy lifting by imagining everything themselves with just "the bare bones," no offense but the writer isn't doing their job. Details facilitate imagination; they don't take away from it. Imagine if there were little to no details of Hogwarts in HP and we were just out here imagining it like any other school
