There are games that go according to complex plans and most modern meta, and there are games that feel like a dumpster fire being put out with flammable materials. This one was definitely the latter and I really enjoyed it.
Craziest game in a while and I'm pretty sure he DIDN'T say it gave him chills. I think Artosis needs predictable games done at a high level to get chills.
What I've learned this game: 1. Don't make Sunken Colonies and build your Lair at the Natural. 2. Bait the Terran into trading his army for buildings HPs while keeping your army nice and healthy. 3. Use your army to destroy the enemy when they have no army left. ... PROFIT!
If he didn't build his Lair on the expansion, probably the hatch should be dead at the first Jyj attack and will cost him the game. Lairs have more HP than Hatches.
For a good while, every ling that came ran past the bunker and died, every muta that came flew past turrets and took a ton of damage, and every overlord being produced rallied past the turrets and died.
short summary: "yeah this might be a quick anticlimactic game; nevermind he didnt finish the layer, not great for JYJ; nevermind he's gonna loose the layer oh my god, hard to imagine JYJ losing this; nevermind TRUE is actually gonna win this; hold on can JYJ win?"
Artosis after most games: I know that was a cheese that went unscouted but let's take a look at a few key moments to learn from. Artosis after this game: what you've just done is one of the most insanely idiotic matches I have ever seen. At no point in your flailing, button mashing response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational play. Everyone in this room is now worse at broodwar for having seen it. I award you no MMR, and may Flash have mercy on your soul.

Artosis I seriously LOVE your SC casts. They are my absolute favorite and it's given me my love for this game back, i'm not as good as Flash or Speed but I still love playing it, nothing has ever come close to capture the RTS feel as SC1 has.
RT, what you are talking about is "sunk cost fallacy". Sunken cost fallacy is what True does, build too little sunkens and then end up losing more because you didnt want to invest the cost of the sunkens.
Indeed, good observation there. Sunken cost, for example, would be adding 2 more sunken colonies on top of 3 already existing, that do the job. Initial 3 sunkens would be an "opportunity cost". Ideally, players want minimal defense to boost their economy, but that strategy can and does often end in sudden defeat. That is why pros really don't neglect defense. They've just trained to react at the exact time to prevent the push.
@@ozar_midrashim Brood War players are very good at making static defense usually. I cant even get my IRL friend who is masters in SC2 to build a bunker on his third base with Terran. He knows its always the right play to just put one bunker there and put a marine in it to aggro runby's that come in so they cant just A-move the mineral line and clear it in 5 seconds, but he refuses to do it. Let alone watching pro games and just watching people lose to ling runby over and over again because they refuse to build a bunker with a few depots in front of it when they play against a zerg that they know goes for ling runby's every game.
11:18 Don't be mean, sure he may only have 2 heavily damaged marines in a bunker, where armor doesn't matter, but he still has exactly one barracks making more.
This game felt more like a campaign mission where your base is almost wiped and you rebuild because the AI didn't finish you Love the videos Arty, keep it up
That opening observation about decision trees is why SC2 1v1 is so boring and stale. Always the same choices, always the same results, inconsequencial of what passes for a balance team that doesn't entirely predicts the impact of proposed changes ahead of time and is reactionary at best. Don't get me wrong, decisions are important, but flexibility and adaptability are far more valuable than making the right decision for the right outcome in the right situation... You know? I do enjoy these small commentaries on player behavioral reasoning and mentality. Please do more of them!
I swear these players feel like they just finished hangin' out. Eating Korean Fried Chicken and Drinking Soju before deciding to try playing a few matches🤣😅 What a crazy and fun match to watch. Great to have games like these 👍
Imagine being able to play 2v2, but each side shares 1 build. That could be fun. 1 works on macro and the other can do micro. That would be next level exciting.
Hey RT! (guys don't forget to leave a like and make sure we're all subscribed, to help the sport grow!) 1:36 11 hatch from true, a little different. i think this usually goes into a slightly later lair with quite a few more drones. 11/10/12 hatch/pool/gas is jumping out in my head as the common way to play this, but that may be wrong. 2:01 ok... 11/11/10. i'm pretty sure i've never seen that. the hatch will pop slightly sooner and you'll get maybe 1 more larva this way? maybe it's harder to build a bunker against this with an 8 rax? difficult to understand the point here. seems like this is just a lower econ version of the 12/11/10 without a lot of upside. 2:49 uh... wat? so he gets 6 drones to be pulled, because he sends a second SCV? should we all just be sending our second SCV to the zerg base because they'll lose their minds? If terran gets ONE drone he should be super happy here. 3:09 OH! i get it. starting the hatch on 11 lets him lair at his nat. if the nat EVER dies you lose anyway, and the lair has more health. that's kinda cool actually. 5:13 well it looks like he's gonna need all the health on that lair he can get because this looks VERY scary! 6:33 ok! and the lair at the nat becomes very important! hatch would have been long dead, here! 8:32 ok. so uh. as mentioned.... losing the lair and nat... is REALLY bad. then again, apart from the facts that his nat is DEAD and he's got no lair at 8:30, with no lurker aspect started, his position looks wonderful! loads of mutas, terran's army is dead, third is done and mining... so we'll see if true can make a game of this. It's interesting that JYJ is making seige tanks because actually a valkyrie push is just curtains, here, there's no way lurkers can come in time when you have to rebuild the lair, that's 2:06 total time to rebuild the lair and start and finish lurker aspect, at which point, he won't have a main anymore. that'll be like 11 minutes time in game. True has to cripple JYJ with his mutas RIGHT now. 9:20 ok, so uh... ordinarily, this is an instant win for Z. however that's Z with a natural and a lair. again, he has no lair and no lair coming. if true clicks lair, JYJ actually has 2 minutes AFTER that before lurkers can start, he has an armory and a starport, he'll go valks, he's building turrets around the mutas, obviously he can't just let the mutas kill all his raxes, but his economy is mostly intact atm. let's see how this goes. 11:10 i love the overlords dying to turrets, for the uninitiated, to get the mutas to stack you group them with an overlord that is far away from them. true is forgetting to send them back to the corner lol. 11:27 ok, so... zerg STILL has no lair, and is now supply blocked, and hasn't rebuilt his nat. you can actually play 1 base against 2 for a while, even if Z can make lurkers.... this is wild. can true actually finish him? he's rebuilding an e-bay which he will float so he can build turrets at his nat, this is so crazy! 12:36 ok, so Z is retaking his nat, finally, but we're still minimum 2 minutes from lurkers and he can't even get +2 flyer carapace without the lair! this is so nuts. hydra den? Definitely opposite world :) I agree about the turrets in general, but this game really was in the bag for YSC and he let the cat out. It's definitely easy to miss in the heat of the moment. Generally speaking, if you kill a finished z 3rd, you're way a head. If you kill the nat, the game is almost won as it also hiccups both supply lines and mining effiency. If the lair is there, all you have is lean back into your economy and let the math solve itself, cuz there's no godly lurker spines to flip the script. So distributing damage to drones and overlords instead of whittling down the army was a win-more move which ended up costing him. Every player knows this when they think about it, but when the pressure is on, anything can happen. Loved it tho
We have learned something: marines are extremely unstable as a backbone unit for your army. They can either do a ton of damage and win or they can get wiped out quite easily. Sometimes the difference between the two outcomes depends on one micro move here or there. It's not as bad as Wings of Liberty (where all your marines evaporate instantly due to a single fungal or baneling hit) but it's still extremely volatile. I think this instability is why SK Terran may be falling out of favour. No matter how good you are, even the top pros in the world can't play consistently enough to deal with it
Interesting game. True has great potential! Hoping he cleans some pieces of his game up to go along with that decisive mentality. Was painful seeing him lose five mutalisks to the natural. Then it's always rough watching valkyries get wrecked.
lmao when Artosis said "he does have 2 marines in this bunker" the marines had just returned from running to the opposite corner of the map to kill all of the drones.
I don't understand why terrans start building their second barracks so far from main cc. Because of that they have to build 3 sets of turrets (main, rax, natural) instead of 2 (main plus rax and natural). There has to be more optimal base setup than starting 3 independent turret clusters with potential to be attacked by mutas.
220+ apm and he goes for +1 armor for bunkered rines I guess apm isn't everything. I'm just playing through the campaign again and even I don't do this unless I've already won the mission and have tons of extra resources left.
Hey, Artosis, love the casts. A few days ago you mentioned that you were a competitive MTG player, what format did you play? You strike me as a Modern player.
He wanted to save it for his later push. His push actually would have been deadly as he was about to add a 4th Valk in, which would have wrecked the muta, but he was worried about lurkers so he needed to go and not wait.
idc whatever people say, Z is freaking OP, with muta spam especially at early game. They got aoe attacks, they dont even need to stack up sometimes, just 1 run-by and a whole chunk of units is gone in an instance. Dont get me to tell you about defilers and dark swarms. Sometimes it feels unfair to play against Z players
The whole thing coming full circle with True finally making two sunkens in the end is just so hilarious honestly
He finally overcame his Sunken Cost Fallacy... 😭
'Sunken cost fallacy' is when I think they cost 125 minerals to make, forgetting the cost of the drone.
brilliant

"Sunken" cost fallacy has a whole new meaning
i think what cost the game for the Terran was the amount of times the marines weren't shooting despite the lair being in range
What I've learned this game:
1. Don't make Sunken Colonies and build your Lair at the Natural.
2. Bait the Terran into trading his army for buildings HPs while keeping your army nice and healthy.
3. Use your army to destroy the enemy when they have no army left.
