    You can so teach an old dog new tricks. I've been knitting for (oh my god!) 36 years and I've never seen this method of casting on. It's genius and could have helped me on many past projects. The whole tutorial was so good. Thank you for sharing this :)

    Since finding your video tutorials in early 2013 I have been wanting to say a big "thank you" to you for taking the time to share your gifts for teaching, video making and knitting with those of us who learn best by watching. If you were here with me I'm sure I would hug you. Before I found you I had tried to learn to knit on numerous occasions throughout my life. I would tell people that it was a goal in my life to learn to knit. I read library books, bought different types of books, studied each book, drew diagrams, made notes and asked people to show me but every time I became incredibly frustrated and gave up for a while. I felt bad about myself because I knew others could do it. I started to think there was something wrong with me. But luckily, your lovely manner, clean technique and detailed thoroughness came across so well to me. None of the other RUclips videos that I have watched (and believe me I've watched a ton) helped me learn to knit. But I am thrilled to say, that thanks to you, those days are gone - I am a knitter! I am so proud of the numerous projects I have completed with your assistance. I've even knitted things upon request because people love my work so much. So again, thank you for restoring confidence in myself. Oh...and please keep making more knitting videos. The only patterns I want to do are those where I can work with you. You Rock!

    I would just like to say that I have found numerous patterns on Ravelry that I'm either incapable of doing or am too scared to try, but then I've come to your channel and your walk throughs make them seem SO much easier. And then I came to THIS tutorial, and I am soooo excited because I've been wanting to do these exact mittens but didn't know how! Thank you so much!

      I totally agree with Sarah! A lot of tutorials are either too fast or even too slow, for me anyway. But yours is just the right pace....AND you actually hold the needles and yarn the same way I do! :) lol I tried to learn where the yarn is in the left hand but it's awkward for some reason. Anyway, I agree....keep doing all of your tutorials like this one!

    This pattern is so cool and actually pretty easy to knit if you follow the pattern from ravelry. On my first try, I followed this video and got confused so many times as it doesn't follow the written pattern. I was pausing and rewinding and listening to the video while looking at the written pattern and it is definitely not the same. On my second try, I just followed the written pattern and finished in no time.
    However, the video is really helpful to learn the provisional cast on and three needle bind off so thank you for that! :)

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  4 года назад +2

      Thank you for the info. The designer must have updated the pattern because I went exactly by the pattern when I made this. How confusing would that be if I just went rogue but then told you to follow along with the pattern? 🥴

I have been looking for fingerless mits pattern and found this on raverly and learned you had made a you tube video. I was a crocheter first and recently within the past 6 months has learned to knit, I use the continental style because its easier for me to understand since I was primarily a crocheter. I am going to venture onto this pattern now. Thank you very much.

    Can someone explain what happened at 10:40? She CO the additional sts and began knitting across the first half then came back the CO sts were moved to a different position? Did she unknit that first side and CO in a different way? Sorry but I'm trying to alter this for a left handed person that change really confused me.

    I am confused on the first round on the circular needles. The pattern calls for casting on nine before knitting the round. You knit half the round then added the 9 stitches, then moved them. This is where I get very confused on when to add the stitches and if those are the first part of the round or the ending part?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 лет назад

      It's because I'm doing the magic loop method. So it really doesn't matter it will be the same since you're knitting in the round.

    Thanks so much for this video, this will be my first actual pattern besides doing a scarf so yay! Wondering if you could clarify what you mean at the 10:50 mark when you said you moved the add'l 9 nine stitches to the other side? I want to make sure I'm doing it right. I'll be doing magic loop as well :) Thanks again!

    Hi again, when you pull out the scrap yarn from the provisional cast on, I'm assuming you cut it off, because I don't see it later on. What do you do with the end or nub or working yarn that it was tied to? Does it need to be slipknotted somehow so that the stitches don't unravel?

  • @lisaz4060

    If you just are using DPN needles can you just start like that do you have a video that way. How many do I cast on each needle. Hi Christine,
    I'm at the end of round one, where you said to transfer the cast on stitches back to the left side. Unfortunately, in the process, three of my stitches have somehow tightened themselves to the point where they can't fit back on the needle. Do you know what I did wrong? Also, the 29 stitches that we pick up-- is there any specification for how many we'd pick up if we made it slightly larger? Say, 12 stitches per row?
    Thanks,
    Mia

      provisional is necessary. I'm using straight needles for the mint part(first part) and then I switch to circular needles. if you follow along with me with the written pattern, it will tell you how much to cast on. sorry it's been a long time since I made this so I don't know it on the top of my head.

      You're welcome (: Do you ever knit things for other people, for money? I had a very basic knit winter hat that I lost years ago, and I've never been able to find another one like it. It was dark olive green, real wool yarn, and 100% stockinette stitch (so the brim naturally curled up some). I loved that hat and ever since I lost it, I've been stuck wearing machine-knitted acrylic yarn hats from the local store which I don't like at all.

      About 36 stitches is fine for a 6 year old, using the same thickness yarn as in the video, but it depends what thickness of yarn you use.

    Love your videos! Unfortunately I'm stuck at 8.5mins. The blue needle sorta comes out of nowhere...am I only putting half of the 29 sts on one needle and then the other half on another needle? I tried looking at the pattern but it is for dpns and doesn't really clarify.

      Hi again. I'm a little confused about how to change colors. The video with the candy corn bag that you sent me doesn't seem to be quite the same thing. What do I do once I cut the loop? What am I tying the new color into? D:

  • @miaplaysthepiano

    Hey Christine,
    Thanks so much for your helpful videos. I have a question: When you picked up the stitches, why did you pick up 29? I understand you wanted to split the stitches in half on two needles, but in your magic loop video, you pushed all the stitches onto one stick, and then split them after. Am I missing something here, or is that what I should do?
    Best,
    Mia

    Hi there, I've been working this pattern and am stuck. Can you help me? I just finished the 3-needle bind off. The next step is to pick up 29 stitches. The pattern says to use dpns, which is what I bought. The first 10 minutes of the video shows the pattern being knit using dpns. But when you pick up 29 stitches, you are using circular needles. I tried to pick up 29 stitches using my dpns, but I can't get them all to fit on the needle without risking warping or tearing everything I've knit. Can you show how to pick up the 29 stitches using dpns, please? Thanks!

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 лет назад

      Hello! You can't put them all on the 1 DPN. I would put them on 3 or 4 DPNs. Then you use your "free" DPN(that doesn't have any stitches on it) for your right needle and then you knit! I hope that helps 😊

      @dabird3364 9 лет назад

      +iKNITS Thanks for your reply! I also sent an email via your website, which you can please disregard now.
      I think I understand your answer. I will play around with it. Question: Does it matter if I pick up and knit one stitch at a time, or should I pick up 29 stitches for and then knit them?
      Thanks again!

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  9 лет назад

    When you do the s2kp (slip two together, knit one, pass two slipped stitches over), in the video, you didn't pass over (except in round 9), so it looks like you actually did a knit 2 together. According to the pattern, you are reducing each round (round 3, 5, 7, and 9) by two, but if you did a proper s2kp and k2tog, you would reduce each line by 3. Could you please clarify?

    • @iKNITS
      @iKNITS  11 лет назад

      The only time you're supposed to do s2kp is on round 9, and you only do it once. I show you how to do that correctly in the video. The other rows are only k2tog. k2tog decreases 1 stitch. s2kp decreases 2 stitches. So round 8 you had 32 sts. and at the end of round 9, you will only have 30 sts. You do not do k2tog in round 9. Does that help?

    • @bmorganlpn
      @bmorganlpn 11 лет назад

      ***** Thanks! That does clarify it for me. I think I got confused with the ssk (slip, slip, knit together throught the back loop) stich.

      I thought I showed you how to do that...but you just cut the color yarn you were using, enough where you can weave the ends later...then put your right needle through your next stitch as if you're about to knit, get your new yarn, and make a U around your right needle, then knit!
