Hi. The authentic nasi lemak is actually very simple. Its wrapped about the size of your fist with banana leaf to give that special aroma. View in the video at 18:00. And its served with half slice of boiled egg, some peanuts, some anchovies and slices of cucumber. What you see at Wanjo is actually the modern day of Nasi Lemak.
Agree. The authentic one is very simple, just coconut rice, half boiled egg, cucumbers, peanuts and anchovies wrapped in banana leaf. Usually sold in streets in residential areas but it's hard to get the ones with banana leaf. What makes nasi lemak stands out among competitors is how sambal is cooked and amount herbs such as pandan leaf, fenugreek or ginger and coconut milk added in the rice. Homemade nasi lemak, use higher quality smaller anchovies. The one at restaurants, because of mass production, they used the cheapest ingredients and usually taste so so, so you have to depend on other things such as ayam goreng, sotong etc. You'll know it's really good the moment you open the banana wrap, the smell of all the herbs and banana leaf emits in the air and you feel you don't need to add side dish.

Kampung Baru was called New Village back in the 60s. Back then it was considered more modern than the rest of the area, hence the name. Of course the KL city slowly grew around it, but the residents refused to move away. It is sitting on very prime land in the heart of KL. There are a few really old typical Malay houses (probably built on stilts) but only the locals would know where to locate it. Would be good to get a guide to bring you around unless you have plenty of time to kill. I grew up in the Chinese area just next to this new village. The shop houses along Jalan Dang Wangi were built around 1900. There are also interesting places to visit in Klang.
kampung bharu or kampung baru if you mean "new village" btw! This is the oldest residential area in Kuala Lumpur with traditional Malay Plans to redevelop Kampung Baru had been around since the 2000s, and intensified in recent years. Negotiations between kampung residents and successive governments have been ongoing since 2018.
Kampung Baru is statuted as traditional malay settlement during british rule as areas around kl flourished with tin mines...as such its hard for govt to take the land for development unless the landowners give consent....and of course the landowners are mostly millionaires in terms of their plot worth in kampung baru...
We Malaysian use a lot of Turmeric (Malay calls it Kunyit) in our dishes we mix them in our curry, fried chicken, in our gravy and even in our soup. Glad you love our food. Fun fact, turmeric is good for your digestion and it protects your body by neutralizing free radicals
13:28 You seem surprised and said "Really? This is the new village. Wow, I want to see the old village.." Indeed, in that moment you're in KL's new village which is 125 years old. It is one of so many Kampung Baru throughout Malaysia. The thing is, whenever a new village is being established Kampung Baru is the most probable name for it if there is none nearby already with the name. So, in any town big or small or in any district (equivalent to county in the US) you have good chance to find at least one Kampung Baru.
