    Kampung Baru is a village in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city centre, many foreigners will find it strange but these village are actually reserved lands for the native Malay people so that they can owned and pass down these land to their next generations as a mean to guaranteed their way of life will be preserved intact, its a policy that originated from the British, similar reserved land policy you can find in many former British colonies, one great example is the native villages of New Territory in northern part of Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong

    Kampung Baru...that vintage old village is somehow existed almost 100 years I believe... each of the residents (owner only not tenants/renter) have the grant or certificate of ownership on the land in which they built their property onto...they own the land legally according to the law.. it's not a slum like others in the neighbouring countries...KL is different it got standard...the Kampung Baru's land is the most precious land in KL right now...every developers have their eye on that village and watching closely.. some small pocket of the land have been bought and redeveloped into modern residential unit, and estimately the village might be gone under 10 years if the developers continue to offer a mind blowing price for that land😢 it's lucky that you being able to visit that place before its vanished...

    Kampung Baru was called New Village back in the 60s. Back then it was considered more modern than the rest of the area, hence the name. Of course the KL city slowly grew around it, but the residents refused to move away. It is sitting on very prime land in the heart of KL. There are a few really old typical Malay houses (probably built on stilts) but only the locals would know where to locate it. Would be good to get a guide to bring you around unless you have plenty of time to kill. I grew up in the Chinese area just next to this new village. The shop houses along Jalan Dang Wangi were built around 1900. There are also interesting places to visit in Klang.

    Hi. The authentic nasi lemak is actually very simple. Its wrapped about the size of your fist with banana leaf to give that special aroma. View in the video at 18:00.
    And its served with half slice of boiled egg, some peanuts, some anchovies and slices of cucumber.
    What you see at Wanjo is actually the modern day of Nasi Lemak.

    • @norzainimohd-zain1325
      @norzainimohd-zain1325 2 месяца назад

      The gist is the same - coconut milk rice, anchovies+sambal, peanuts, boiled egg & cucumber. Wanjo provides lots of side dishes. 😁

    • @SongsMalaysia
      @SongsMalaysia Месяц назад +2

      Agree. The authentic one is very simple, just coconut rice, half boiled egg, cucumbers, peanuts and anchovies wrapped in banana leaf. Usually sold in streets in residential areas but it's hard to get the ones with banana leaf. What makes nasi lemak stands out among competitors is how sambal is cooked and amount herbs such as pandan leaf, fenugreek or ginger and coconut milk added in the rice. Homemade nasi lemak, use higher quality smaller anchovies. The one at restaurants, because of mass production, they used the cheapest ingredients and usually taste so so, so you have to depend on other things such as ayam goreng, sotong etc. You'll know it's really good the moment you open the banana wrap, the smell of all the herbs and banana leaf emits in the air and you feel you don't need to add side dish.

It is one of so many Kampung Baru throughout Malaysia. The thing is, whenever a new village is being established Kampung Baru is the most probable name for it if there is none nearby already with the name. So, in any town big or small or in any district (equivalent to county in the US) you have good chance to find at least one Kampung Baru.

Actually the locations are nearby but it is on the other side of Kampung Bharu since the place was split up by roads and KL General Hospitals. Kampung Bharu use to be so huge as Malay settlements in KL and some of the land are either taken by government or have been sold to developer by the owner like Chow Kit Road side of Kampung Bharu. Then what are you exploring in the video are just the remaining of Kampung Bharu. I am quite surprised you walk all the way from Kampung Bharu to Chinatown..you want to experience actual local Chinese market, better get to Taman Connaught Night Market only every wednesday night and have around 700 stalls..

    Most of the people whom you met on the streets in the daytime were not Malaysians, Malaysians are busy at work or schools, those people were either immigrants workers or homeless beggars or they are either with or without documents or passport, that's why they avoid camera or interviews with you.. Kampung Baru is a new village for the Malays for many decades ago and it is meant for the poor Malay people settlement and now is a private land that still under negotiations between the landowners and government to proceed with redeveloping in that area.. most of the residents now are non Malays, the landowners rent out those houses to immigrants like Indonesians and Bangladeshis etc. Those landowners are all professional and multimillionaires and they don't live there..
