This man is so funny and he uses no foul language. I discovered him back in 1984 on cable TV and I hadn't seen any more of his routines. Thanks to all of you who have posted his comic routines for us to enjoy.
Emo Philips is THE MAN; I missed the boat on him entirely (also, I was somewhere between 10 and 12 at the height of his first late 80s-early 90s blowup, and if I have the dates wrong, I mean no disrespect). I actually discovered him through a couple of segments of "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist," and then started looking for his standup. Thank you so much for uploading this; his standup is brilliant.
Suspiro del Moro HOLY CRAP! thank you for that Tie In! Im sitting here going out of my mind trying to remember Why he seems SO danged familier: Dr. Katz from old Cartoon Network...along side the also terribly underrated show; The Critic! thx again.
I know some people dislike responses to comments that are older than 'X', but I felt I had to say that, every once in a while, there is a comment on YT that actually leads me to a better understanding of the world as a whole. Yours was one of them. Thank you.
Glad to hear that he's having a very successful run as the opening act in the current “Weird Al” Yankovic tour. The reviews I've read said Emo was a big hit.
I had very successful runs today (true), after feeling poorly yesterday - the Pizza I ate 2 nights ago? I should have seen it coming - a sort of deja poo, I suppose.💩
I've had the privilege of meeting Mr. Philips a couple months back... We had a discussion about Jesus Christ and if he were allowed to eat bacon or not!
It really depends on the comedian. It is pretty common for someone to use the same jokes for long periods of time as they refine their act and gather new material. But there are others who have a flair for improvisation, like Eddie Izzard, or who are committed to leaving old jokes behind, like Patton Oswalt. Emo is a straight example of a comedian finding a routine that works and sticking with it.
I was reading the Stephen King novel 'The Institute'and I wanted to check if I was psychic. So I tried to solve my soduku puzzle with witchcraft. The teacher called me and said "I wanted to congratulate you on winning the quiz but all I can see here are red numbers," I said "never underestimate the power of the dhark shide."
Once upon a time I took extra quizzes in a bet for my head teacher who was a rabbly New Labour type. So I won yh, me and my pal who Majored in music were the cleverest eleven year olds in the county. I know in America you get promoted for that, but...we didn't
So I had some trouble with American-Anglo slang. I had a bit of sunburn to peel off, someone asked me what I was doing I said "I was rubbing out my inner negro," ...they didn't even tell me
Excellent comment! Green thumb. I only discovered I was "gifted" in my twenties - until then, I'd thought I was just odd. Then I got into Mensa and never looked back! If one OBSERVES Emo, one can SEE how clever his comedy actually IS - but those with lesser intellects only see the PERSONA he projects. I FEEL for Emo Philips: a high intellect is, in the words of "Monk" - a gift - and a curse.
I would echo my reply to 451harri - and add that if you think I'M an intellectual snob (I'm not - see said reply) YOUR insinuation that RUclipsrs are THICK is DEFINITELY intellectual snobbery! RUclips is like life: while SOME RUclipsrs put up crap and others leave obscene comments - there are plenty of RUclips pieces that are delightful and comments that are incisive and witty. Plus there are plenty of "low-brow" uploads and comments - but they have just as much VALUE too. Vive la difference!
To my knowledge there aren't any comedians of this intellectual caliber working in America today. I blame modern audiences for not wanting diversity in what they consider to be funny. It seems to me every new comedian today espouses the same philosophical point of view which is based on social psychology. I've never understood why the current generation STOPS at psychology and never venture beyond it.
"...didn't necessitate such an outburst." If you read the comment by superjew837 and the reply by DryCube30 that STARTED this nonsense, you'd understand why I mentioned it. Mensans are considered only one level above RACISTS, these days. We are accused of elitism and worse. THIS is what I meant by "a gift - and a curse". For the record, I consider a high IQ to be like the ability to play an instrument or sport well. But that's all. It does not make me "superior" as a PERSON. Thread CLOSED.
Quite possibly. I get TONS of irrelevant crap from the God Squad on my uploads. I dump most of it, but I left this as it had garnered some entertaining responses - maybe they'll get back to ChinaThruJesusChrist. If they DO - let me add that the word is spelled "through" - only 4% of Chinese are Christians - and the correct description of Jesus is "Jesus Of Nazareth" (since divinity is unprovable). So there!
"He told me I was a paranoid weirdo... in morse code.'"
Wow, this is some smart comedy. Not just the material but also the complete character he creates to present it.
.
So underrated. So intelligent and an amazing act
I was born in London three years later and had never seen this...it's magical.
Only Emo Philips could work Archimedes principle of fluid displacement into a comedy routine... LOL
I remember this special from when I was younger! He made me laugh so hard! Still does! Why he wasn’t more popular boggles my mind!
33 years later, I remember I was just 12 when this first touched me
Unique mind. One of my favorite comedians.

No foul language but funny how his comedy covers bestiality, pedophilia, incest, etc 😂😂
Hadn't seen Emo since the 80's, always wondered what happened to him? An unheralded comic genius.
He turned into a "normal bloke" in the 2000s and wasn't funny anymore.
Oh my gosh, this guy is so hilarious. How is he not more famous?!
His approach is so awesome
This is fantastic, warped comedy at it's finest.
genius ...legend..hilarious
I love his old stuff, always catches you off-guard with some surprisingly edgy bits (unless you've seen all his variations already).
"Reflecting when there's a time and place for sarcasism"
LMAO

thx again.
Emo is a comic genius. Very cerebral.
Seems like Emo's been around forever - a brilliant original comedian
"unless they've chosen a last day of Pompeii motif"- lmao
Bloody BRILLIANT!!
That morse code joke is my favourite. Genuinely incredible.
My god this is phenomenal!
Awesome, Emo Philips!!!
I love Emo!!! More Emo!!
You know when you've seen a truly brilliant comedian when he includes Archimede's Theory of Water Displacement into his comedy
"Please don't let him find me attractive.". Hahaha! Classic!
The cement bit was brilliant!
The circumcision was an added bonus.
Genius thnx for the upload
This is a wondrous grayble
Emo at his best. Of course, every time I see him, I can say that.
“I’m a fantastic lover…..
…..I’ll bet”
I know some people dislike responses to comments that are older than 'X', but I felt I had to say that, every once in a while, there is a comment on YT that actually leads me to a better understanding of the world as a whole.
Yours was one of them. Thank you.
Prefect. If that's even possible.
@@AllThingsGeek1 is one sick, sad SOB
A master of paraprosdokian humour & intellectual with it. His OCD lines at c 03:40 is particularly clever.
That opening punchline is so cleverly done.
Guaranteed to get an outloud laugh.
Emo is great
i have THOSE SAME PAJAMA BOTTOMS!
Your response was brilliant :D
Bi and large, this was one of his best performances!

That man is an underrated comic genius. Up there with Carlin.
Pure genius ★★★★★

There's a new Emo documentary coming out. Google "Stalking Emo"
Great comedian 👍😃
I found out about Emo because my uncle said my hair looked like his :P
I'm so sorry.
+ben palmer And that gave you a role-model.. You thanked your uncle right? :) He's great.
Oof. Hope you ditched the page boy cut my friend
I was there!
Genius humour!
Epic
2:05... "bi and large"
I like that bit, but maybe not too many people caught it.
when ghosts smoke weed.
my therapist is the one who told me about him, no joke.
he's in the movie UHF 1989
good point.
Emo! Emo! Emo!
I looked it up.
2:55 , the most sophisticated poop joke in existance!
I thought it was a regurgitation joke lol
depends on what you appreciate
with time travel!
@G33k4Lyfe Oh wow, it's exactly what the description for the video said.
4:51 is kooky!
@xxjacuzzixx Very cool!
Movie starring Adrien Brody.
Shannon from Home Movies
I picked up my mom at the airport - the lounge was dark, how was I to know?
Reminds me of Sheldon tbbt
Emo Phillips circa 1990 is my favorite thing
Edit: It's been a while since I saw his 90's era stand-up; I don't remember all the weird jokes o_o
Which show was it where he spent the whole time trying to assemble a trombone while he does his act?
Go to mahnrubob channel and go to the favorites and it's there
Gracie Robertson Thank you!!
I saw that act live, he messed with the trombone for ages and at the end of the show he walked off stage juggling all the bits of it.
@@bobbowling2979 Oh, man! I envy you! What an interesting time for stand-up comedy!
@xxjacuzzixx what does he sound like in real life?
I said, why do I have to go to the school psychiatrist? so he showed me the petition, haha. Reminds me of me, except the psychiatrists gave up on me.
On an Emo Philips video? Can't help thinking you're sowing your seed on fallow land brother.
@G33k4Lyfe LOL!
He's good. Comparable with Carlin.
@madamimadamimadam Read it, forgot I read it, uploaded it. Happens a lot.
King of the paraprosdokian
He is, indeed.
I feel like his 4 previous lives were as Mitch Hedberg, Rowan Atkinson, Tiny Tim, and Stephen Wright.
Now that I think of it, Weird Al might have been involved in one of those lives.
Perhaps not that big a deal, but an interesting question non the less.
@hamsterpoop He meant to put a space after the letter e in therapists.
I just did math homework for fun. It was Japanese soduku: my class rival asked my how I was going to win, I said "I'm going to use the fours"
I wrote them with the blood that leaked from my ears.
No I didn't.
Yes I did.
No, I didn't.

what does it mean when you melt it down, and put it in a blender with milk and ice cream and say. its finally over
Could see him playing Shakespeare plays if he lost the American accent.
shortage sounds heavil| funnymargin
