Very cool! After doing studio pottery on and off for a few years, I realize I prefer hand construction to the wheel. So many more possibilities and techniques. Thank you - I will try a smaller version of this when I return to the studio in September.
To Haters who are afraid of having no wheel - Take a look at the Puebloan potters in the Rio Grande valley of New Mexico, a U.S. State, since way before 1776. They do beautiful work, and many artists have international fame. Maria Martinez and Popovi Da for starters.
I think this is stunning Beautiful pot. I love the color and the designs. I love your instructions, they are easy to understand. Thank you. Now I’m looking for your website. Tank you. Janice in Tn
after watching throwing on a wheel and hand heading I really prefer the hand paddle design it's just something about that not perfect look that is exquisite thank you I'm so glad to see this other way besides throwing
Great demo and pot. You're a good teacher. Loved your tools! I'm totally going to get a restaurant condiment bottle...what a clean way to apply slip. Loved how you used the ruler with your pin tool to guide you for the trimming. Such simple tips and I never though of them.
Depends. With the wheel it is harder to make larger pieces until you have worked for quite a while. Handbuild allows for a distortion, not "perfect circle" which can be appealing. Depends on what the desired outcome is ultimately
Very helpful!!! I am learning ceramics and not able to afford a wheel so this is an amazing way to make pottery. I am running into problems of mine cracking though. I originally thought mine was too thick but I can tell that yours is thicker. Do you have any suggestions? THANK YOU!!!
I'm trying to make a vase, and the coils are just getting wider, and I don't know how to make them smaller. It just looks like a bowl, I'm trying to make it look like a vase.
The coiled portion looked so much like the bowl formed slab portion, couldn't you simply have joined two bowl formed slabs together? wide part to wide part then cut out the base to create the hole on top. Are the replys being deleted? every time i click to read a reply to a question nothing is there.
Hey how did you get the pam off before applying the glaze? wouldnt it act something like the wax? i dont know anything about pottery except what i learned in school.
hi ! great video, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. i can see you put a spray of something, i dont understand what product it is, you say "a light coating of..." , i m from another country and sometimes don't understand words . if you could tell me the product i ll apreciate it. thanks, keep up the good work !, love your videos.
you dont really get to choose the colours with a glaze it all depends on the thickness of the glaze and the kiln you use for instance using a red you can get blue :)
ben lastname not true, it will crack in the kiln. You have to slip and score every coil because you bake this clay at a super high temperature for up to 2 days so it cannot resist but cracking
For simplicity sake this is an interesting way of creating a vessel, but molding clay over a bowl reminds me of bowl haircuts. It may get the job done, but it doesn't look very good.
very nice video ...............please also make a video on ""MAKE A DOG FROM NATURAL CLAY"" ....................... i have subscribed your's channel and you have to accept requests of us .............. please ..............
Clay pots for dummies...but you have to buy the right size bowl to make the clay pot. LOL Honestly, this is just a bunch of lazy ass short cuts that takes all of the cultural aspect out of this form of art.
I've never seen a potter with such clean hands

Beautiful pieces and I love the glaze. Thanks for the lesson on using coil and slab techniques together.
your pot is wonderful!!!I don't know why people say the pot is ugly!!!!
Wow thanks for showing start to finished product. Love the way you layered the glaze gave me great ideas.
Wow! Well done, you just simplify the technique even better
Man, this way of coil forming would take FOREVER!
You have the coolest gadgets for ceramics.
Looks pretty efficient !

Michelle Barkman I completely agree with you!

We would not do it on art class like not that easier but so helpful to let me know what pottery is before my first class tomorrow THANK YOU!
Very nice and good video
Wow!! Beautiful!
Thanks for this. Great video.
Mandateli spesso mi interessano questi video l arte e la mia passione
so why did you choose to use the coils on the top part instead of joining a larger slab shape? Just curious. Thanks!
A beautiful pot.
this is beautiful and i love the results of your glazing!!
Très Beau Travail !!! Félicitation .
omg you just got a subscribe from me I I have no words for how good you are.

Very good lesson! And a very quirky shape of that pot! ♡
thankyou so much for posting this information very helpful : )
What exactly do you use to make it not stick to the form?
I wished I had a kiln. nice work....
Wonderful channel.

I'm trying to make a vase, and the coils are just getting wider, and I don't know how to make them smaller. It just looks like a bowl, I'm trying to make it look like a vase.

belle leçon, merci beaucoup
please tell me where in Italy there are factories with ceramics
You don't need to score and slip each coil. You are already smoothing it in the inside
ben lastname not true, it will crack in the kiln. You have to slip and score every coil because you bake this clay at a super high temperature for up to 2 days so it cannot resist but cracking
Wow
روعة
Hi what did you spray on the clay to prevent it from sticking to the bowl...

Your music is too loud. It makes it difficult to hear you clearly. I enjoy your technique, though. Thank you.
OTTIMO LAVORO

This video is hilarious if your mind is in the gutter! LMAO
What happened to real craftsmanship? Extruder gun - seriously?

GRANNY
Ferrari good
This video is for people that don't want to get in contact with the clay. She should instruct people to work with play dough instead.
love the tools the technique... your very skilled with clay .... but the pot is very ugly
Don't like the imperfect shape.
que manera de tener herramientas inútiles. A esta señora le falta ver ceramistas originarias...

isn't easier to use the wheel???
We don't use it in art class to practice us more
not necessarily, the wheel takes a lot of technique, skill and practice
Aprenda falar em português p gente entender e uma nojo
NO NEED FOR THE BAMBOO "TOOLS"
eso esta horrible no sabe manejar ese arte
:'D:'D
нуууу...такое...не фонтан....
Hoorrible
You have really over complicated the process. I'm not trying to be mean. I'm just saying, this can be done in much simpler ways.
to be honest that looks awful. itd have been far easier to just throw
lazy, inept technique and ugly, rough pot. But good communication and teaching
Acquavallo elegantly put
this isnt art.... you use a bowl to get half your shape... and you use a gun to "roll" your coils.... looks nice but doesnt seem like much of an art
what does using a cookie cutter mean you aren't baking?
art is art is art
I would have rolled those with my hands and mold my own Bowl that's cheating
Clay pots for dummies...but you have to buy the right size bowl to make the clay pot. LOL Honestly, this is just a bunch of lazy ass short cuts that takes all of the cultural aspect out of this form of art.
Wow that’s actually really ugly
not my thing. its not even close to symmetrical and the paint job is awful.
This is not ceramic! Where is the wheel?? This is an insult
Deisy Daze Velasco there are more methods to ceramics than throwing
Handbuilding is a legitimate and recognized part of ceramics. Throwing on a wheel is not the only way to create ceramics
its handbuilt obviously! u wouldnt use a wheel for that.
Hand building ceramics is ceramics. Handbuilding came before throwing on the wheel. Don’t knock it till you know it
ceramics were handbuilt before the wheel. look at history
