My childhood dream of a magical little box in my hand wher ei could play games, watch movies, listen to music and do my hobby stuff - finally come true. Kudos to Lenovo.
The model tested here is Windows 32gb ram/1 tb SSD for $729.99 and is available sometime this month. The base model Steam version is $499.99 for 16gb ram/512 SSD and coming in May.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this versus the ROG Ally (Z1 extreme). I was literally about to finally buy it today until I saw you posted this video…
I’m in the same exact boat as you. Not sure what to to purchase because the ROG Ally is so much cheaper nowadays. Will the Windows Legion Go S be worth the cost?
get the ally open box from best buy. I was able to get one for my gf and one for me. They cost me $380 a piece, so for $760 we got a heck of a deal and they play everything we have tried on there. Now we so have our main pcs for the time we want the settings maxed out but these things have ran games in medium settings with 13 watts of power. Now older games like the halo games I'm getting max settings with 120fps
I think this is the better option. Bigger screen, bigger battery, an SD card reader that actually works, multiple OS options to suit different needs, and best of all, you won’t have to deal with Asus’s abysmal customer service if something goes wrong.
The SteamOS version will probably sip battery because it is Linux powered, no Windows bloat to worry about. That would be the version to go for imo, and is the cheaper then the Windows version... I can't wait to see comparisons, as both Windows and SteamOS versions have the same specs.
Windows Legion Go S White Windows Version is 729.99 for the 32GB version, $599 for the 16GB Ram Version. The SteamOS version is in Black, is only 16GB Ram but $499 because you don't pay the Windows License Tax you would normally have. Starts at.. Windows $599, SteamOS Version $499...
I read the processor of the original Legion Go the Z1 extreme is more powerful than the Z2 go of the Legion S. Lenovo should make a Z1 extreme version of the S device.
My main concerns are will I be able to mod on the Steam OS version and can I download games that aren't on Steam. If not, then I'm going for the Windows version.
I’ll mainly like the first one because of the detachable paddles. Most controllers develop stick drift over time and you need to replace those types of things. I wonder if they would send you just the stick modules so you can change replace them with someone who can solder and open up electronics.
I got so lucky. I bought the first gen for $587 including tax on Amazon. But the delivery got delayed by like a week, and the status was changed to like "the package may be lost". So I contacted Amazon, and they gave me a refund, and then they told me that if the package ends up getting delivered, I could go ahead and keep it, and also keep the refund. And I was like "are you serious?" and they said yes. So I didn't expect the thing to get delivered right, but what do I know? It did end up getting delivered!!! So I only had to pay 44$ because I live in Costa Rica and I had to pay the delivery to my freight forwarder. And I ended up saving $543! In general, I like the Legion Go 1, but it's uncomfortable to hold and the battery is kinda bad. If the Go 2 is better on those regards, then I'm picking it up
@urAvrConsumer If you had to buy one hand held and not the steam deck, which would it be? The Legion or the Ally x ? or is there another that is better please
z2go is not on par with the z1e. It is on par with the old 6800u chip from 2 years ago,. The windows version for 729 comes with a z1e to substantiate its price.
Depends if you want the experience as Valve intended, or don't mind adventuring other's offerings. Steam Deck has better screen by far despite a 0.5 inch difference and bigger touchpads if you play many games with mouse interactivity or would even like to browse the internet (they feel great). Legion Go S is equipped with a marginally better chip and double the RAM which might be handy for those huge modern experiences coming out, but battery life comparison between these won't be much I feel. Other stuff like D-pad styles, trigger switches as on the Go S or weight between the devices is complete personal preference. One note I'd like to make; most games are gonna likely be optimised for Deck hardware first over other options. I hope this helps you make a choice!
The question is, how do we choose with the many devices coming out this year😅 Hopefully it helps more people access PC and enjoy Me, i see no need to upgrade anytime soon😅 There needs to be something bigger
Is this handheld more powerful than the current Steam Decks on the market. If I prefer my games to run at a solid 60fps, is this possible if I make the correct adjustments to the settings? I would most likely play sports games and action/adventure games similar to Uncharted or the present version of Tomb Raider. Occasionally shooters like COD.
Should be. I went from a steam deck to an Rog ally z1e for the same reason as you and it does the job at playing 60fps with settings and resolution down.. I'm assuming the legion go s is stronger with the new z2 chip.
$499 is SteamOS version, I think Lenovo was bit misleading here... Shit I thought I was SteamOS until I saw that white, I thought you got "tha real dark one" :D ... But still love it and will probably 100% get it with SteamOS.... I wrote a whole paperwork on Linuses CES video why it is $499 with SteamOS and $729 with windows, but after few hours when I stumbled on that video and how and why is that, this could also be a unofficial "Deck 2"....
"Ryzen Z2 Go" APU isn't as strong as the "Ryzen Z1 Extreme", it's weak compared to it. "Ryzen Z2 Go" APU is a 4c/8t Zen 3+ & 12CU RDNA2 based APU, making it slightly stronger than the "Valve Custom" used in Steam Deck (which is 4c/8t Zen 2 & 8CU RDNA2). On the other-hand, "Ryzen Z1 Extreme" is a 8c/16t Zen 4 & 12 RDNA3 based APU ("Ryzen Z1" on the other hand is a 6c/12t Zen 4 & 4CU RDNA4). Just to add, new "Ryzen Z2" is basically copy of a "Ryzen Z1 Extreme", while "Ryzen Z2 Extreme" is a 8c/16t Zen 5 & 16 RDNA3.5 based APU.
Unfortunately it’s not really a replacement as it’s not much more powerful at all. No Oled screen and still a small battery. Better off getting an ally x and running bazzite. 1080p vrr 80whr battery and extreme processor. Not a bad device but I don’t think I’d take this over the steam deck.

Yes you can use mods. You can also play games outside of Steam (utilities such as Heroic Launcher or Bottles help a lot).
@softwarelivre2389 I'll have to look into that. Thanks
I wonder if the steam os version has option to upgrade the ram
I’ll mainly like the first one because of the detachable paddles. Most controllers develop stick drift over time and you need to replace those types of things. I wonder if they would send you just the stick modules so you can change replace them with someone who can solder and open up electronics.
*will be getting a Legion go S steam os in ✌🏾 weeks*
do you think the go 2 would be worth the upgrade if I already have the first gen?
It's coming with a native landscape OLED screen with VRR and better ergonomics with a bigger battery. It seems worth it to me.
