So I’ve seen a lot of people go into the kosoto hook or the half butterfly as opposed to the normal half guard to prevent the step over. Do you do any of that? Seems like it’s easier to bump with normal half guard. But after that you could put in a kosoto hook. (Butterfly hook feels awkward for me.)
I really like the Kosoto hook variation, I like to use it from the reverse tight waist, I think the Kosoto hook paired with this variation can chain really good together. X- Guard is definitely a great option from here. The Octopus can be really good for getting under your opponents legs & then using the likes of SLX & X-Guard variations.
Monday September 18,2023 0906HRS I'm glad that I discovered your channel yesterday for 2 reasons. 1) Your skill level is solid, and you teach very well 2) I'm an SBG member across the pond in the Great North.
I think its a great addition to your regular half guard game like techniques from the underhook, deep half, knee shield etc depending on your style. When your opponent shuts down one of your attacks then having more options like Octopus guard is always going to be great to have. I wouldn’t rely completely on using Octopus guard as it might limit your options. You’re better off adding it to your half guard game instead of replacing it with what you use already. Hope this helps.
That detail to come up when unable to get to your elbow at the start is fantastic. Always struggle to get up from there. Wow thx coach.
No problem. Glad you find it helpful. Thanks for the comment!
The grabbing the leg to come up is awesome!! Never seen that before
It works really well. It’s been a great addition

Also it dawned on me that you get that leg weightless so maybe you can transition into X? (if you wanted).
You have a ton of control over their base.

Great presentation
I have played octopus guard for a few years, never seen these details. Looks good, going to have to try them out.
That’s great to hear. Thanks for the support. Enjoy! 🐙🤼
This is awesome! What I want to know most is what this beat is at the end? I really like it. And Shazam is not helping me!
Thanks for the support! The song is nbhd nick - add it up (instrumental)
Awesome - do you find Octopus works when they are is a really big weight discrepancy and if so would you advise switching to another half guard ?
