I have a GE over the range microwave. It has power but doesn't heat at all. the tray doesn't rotate. Do you think the problem is the door switch or the diode?
it turn on light etc all working but it doesn't heat up. i called micro wave repair man he said it going to cost $300 to fix. recommended unit has shorted Ma6. is worth fixing or buying a new one. moddle #JNM1851SM2SS, serial902164B. please help me. thanks
The top and bottom in my GE1456 microwave are identical switches (WB24X829) and are NORMALLY OPEN type (NO continuity freestanding). The middle one (WB24X830 ) is a NORMALLY CLOSED (continuity freestanding). Is this correct? I got mine all mixed up and am trying to make sure i purchase the correct switch and furthermore replace them correctly.
Yes, the upper and lower are the same switch part (# WB24X829): www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Micro-Switch/WB24X829/253819?TLSID=1773. The center switch is part # WB24X830: www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Micro-Switch/WB24X830/253820?TLSID=1773.
Tim Claxton Yes, if the capacitor is accessible it would be wise to discharge it before service. This is a task best handled by a qualified appliance repair person.
YO, DUDE!!! If the microwave portion of the oven really operates when the door is open, it's very dangerous! If you hear the same hum when the door is open as you do when it's closed and heating, you should be VERY careful to be sure it's closed before it's turned on, and until it's turned off. And you should get it fixed ASAP, because that's the kind of thing we all forget when we're tired, or in a rush. Probably replacing the door switches, as shown in this video, will solve the problem
I have a Goldstar Microwave Model GMV1540TW. The turntable turns and oven light stays on when door is closed. It acted like this a few months ago for a while and started again yesterday. Any idea what the cause would be? Door switch?

Do you need to discharge the high voltage capacitor before doing this replacement?

David Cummings Either a bad door switch or control board would be our guess.
Had top door switch checked.Technician said it was ok. Unplugged and left for a few days. Now is working ok. Control board?
