  • Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will enter the 2024 Formula 1 Season with great momentum. McLaren managed to turn their season around in 2023 and became one of the best teams on the grid, scoring podiums and even a sprint race win. But if McLaren fight for wins in the future, could we see a rivalry between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri? Enjoy!

One thing that struck my about Piastri is how calm he seems in pretty much all situations - two or three times this year he had contact with other cars (which may or may not have been his fault), but over the radio there was no shouting or raving about how the other driver was an idiot or driving dangerously, he just calmly accepted the situation and moved on.

Lando got all the upgrades first which as we know now were extremely significant. Admittedly I think McLaren would do better if they got their heads out of their asses and actually listen to someone outside of their echo chamber. That includes their drivers (as in they should listen to them to some degree because they have said they do not). This was the problem with Honda too. McLaren refused to adapt to Honda and made Honda work around them and now Honda powered cars are winning titles. Granted it's probably not the biggest factor but I guarantee Verstappen wouldn't be winning crap if the power unit exploded as much as it did at McLaren.
I still think Oscar is going to be massively kneecapped and made to bend over to Lando by the team and I think that's going to cost them Oscar down the line. There's only so much of that a person is willing to take, especially if it's not a top level team.

Let me be crystal clear: I'm not a Lando Norris fan, but I did gain a lot of respect for him over the last season. He's got a TON of talent, and frankly I'm a little surprised he hasn't won a race yet... but I think we can chalk that up to him being in not the best cars. And I very much respect his loyalty to the team, even if loyalty rarely is the most logical choice for a driver.
That said, Piastri is a genuine disrupter, and a dude that I think is destined to be a future World Champion. Far moreso than Norris. I say that while not trying to take anything from Norris' talent, because he's so very good. I just never expected Piastri to appear so strong right off the bat in an F1 car. That said, Piastri still needs some work and in the meantime, Norris' experience is a significant advantage. I think if Norris is going to win a race, it's going to be in 2024. He's rapidly approaching the closure of that window of opportunity, and Piastri has accelerated it.
I don't know how much the changes made in 2023 (in terms of car performance) were directly caused by Stella, but the turnaround of that team was stunning, and I think they might just be on a much better path. In fact, it will be interesting to see if "Stake" continues to languish compared to McLaren. Regardless, I wish everyone the best, but I strongly suspect that Piastri will be the heart of the team going forward. He already seems to have "it," it's only a matter of him fine tuning his race pace and tire wear for him to become a WDC-level driver.

How can you call it the closing of opportunity for Norris ? The guy is still young at 24. @bjs7442 4 месяца назад +8

@@walover165 I have just listened to the complete Suzuka radio by Lando. You are simply talking rubbish. He was asked not to overtake Oscar after first stint . However Lando was very much faster 1sec a lap so they told Lando because of the tyre difference that Oscar wont make it difficult to go past. They told him that twice before Lando caught him. However after two laps Oscar still hadnt made it easy for Lando to get through. Lando was not going to race him in case they touched.
Lando said "what is he doing"
"I am way quicker and in the dirty air" " Do I end my race now." They then ordered Oscar to swap.
He never accused Oscar of trying to lose them the race but simply his race was being compromised , as it was, by Oscar not being helpful.
At no time did Lando shout or even raise his voice. He was being held up badly. The issue was Oscar. Lando said nothing untoward at all. He was very measured and calm . Within three laps Lando was 5 secs ahead. At the end of the race he was 17 secs ahead.
In the comments section nobody said Lando had acted badly in any way in fact they said they could understand his frustration.
If you want to hear shouting listen to Yuki, Gasly or Ocon and Max refuses team orders . George mouths off about everybody including Lewis.
Lando is sweetness and light in comparison.
In the heat of battle all drivers can get angry but in this case he didnt at all. The nearest he got to it was Perez driving too slow in double yellows.
The reason why you make this up is because the other driver is Oscar obviously. Perhaps you never bothered to check what actually happened rather than relay Chinese whispers.

  • @lorcanbyrne7539

I think that Lando is such a great driver but I genuinely think piastri will have him on pace this year if not next year. Take nothing away from Lando. Hes top 5 drivers on the grid right now. But piastri is probably the best rookie since Leclerc. And Leclerc in his second year in f1 showed absurd maturity and pace in the Ferrari in 2019. Won 2 races and probably should’ve won 3-5 if not for reliability and strategy. That was his second year in f1 against Sebastian Vettel. When we look at piastri, more could be going right for him this year. One major thing I find with the newer gen of cars and with rookies is is that you need a bit of racing around each track in an f1 car to get used to all the steering wheel / strat / brake changes and just driving it too. As we seen in Qatar a track where every1 had only raced once prior but in different spec cars, Oscar won the sprint. I do think however Lando is also still developing but is awful under pressure. He is very quick so this rivalry could be brilliant and then again it might never happen so who knows

great perspective (no pun intended), also appreciate the unbiased take with oscar being a fellow aussie. some of the british publications just love their british bias. i agree with you, i think if mclaren were to come with the fastest car this year, i think lando would just edge out oscar based on what we saw last season. but if oscar keeps progressing like he should, i think it would only be a matter of time whether it be another year or two before he is the dominant driver. i think we’d need to see some mid career renaissance from lando for him to be dominant over oscar, and i’m not sure what, if anything, that would look like. hopefully red bull don’t run away with the championship in 2024 or 2025 and we can see how this would play out. definitely an exciting time coming in f1

Don't get me wrong, there were a handful of times where Lando was significantly faster than Oscar and doing a better job of managing tires during the actual races. But you'd expect that from a veteran driver with lots of talent and 3 years more experience in an F1 car compared to a first-year rookie. The fact that it was as close as it was says the exact opposite of the narrative you're trying to push.
