Exploring Seoul's Foreigner's Cemetery: Unveiling the Stories of the Past

Prof Peterson takes us on a tour of Yanghwaqjin, the Foreigner's and Missionary Cemetery in Seoul. We learn about Ernest Bethel, Homer Hulbert, the Underwood family, the Shaw family and others. We see azaleas and hear a poem by Kim Sowol.

Thank you so much for your time and effort to present the precious Korean heritage and history. My mother and father escaped from the Northern Territory of Korea during the Korean War. My maternal grandparents were shot to death by the communist for their Christian beliefs. I also had two older sisters who died from small pox pneumonia during my family fleeing to the southern part of Korea during the Korean War. From what my parents had told me, we had many relatives and family members, however most did not the opportunity to make it out of the north. I really appreciate your love and respect for the Korean heritage and history. I personally would like to say thank you to all those Americans and Europeans who help defend democracy during the Korean War. Even though Korea is still divided, I hope and pray that someday their will be a reunification.

그당시 한국은 미국과 비교가 안될 정도로 가난하고 척박한 땅이었는데 한국와서 와서 산다는 것 자체가 대단한 희생이시죠. 많은 선교사님들이 묻힌 곳으로 알고 있는데 그분들 덕분에 한국이 복을 많이 받았습니다. 감사드립니다.
