The fly bit was hilarious. That thing needs attention for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I've got a 2015 Chevrolet 1500 4x4 High Country Crew Cab and at approximately 61500 miles the transmission started to shutter! The dealer was very aware of the problem but quickly let me know that it was out of warranty!! I took it to a recommended transmission shop that did a complete trans fluid flush and refill with the newly recommended Mobil 1 transmission fluid and they also changed the filter and flushed the lines ECT. I was very fortunate because mine had just started to get the shutter! It cost me almost $400 but I've put another 30,000 miles on it with no problems thus far! IMHO, Chevrolet should recall every dang one of the problematic transmissions!! Thanks Kenny
Recalls happen when it’s the most cost effective option to manage the issue. If it will be out of warranty by the time it fails for the majority of their products a recall isn’t likely. The problem is the manufacturer policies on vehicle ownership. They used to want everyone to pick their vehicles so you would get the best they could provide. Now they want you to choose to buy every 1-5 years so quality must be low.
I hope you plan on changing that fluid again by now!
I have a 2001 Lincoln Town Car 172,000 miles, the transmission started to shudder, I dropped the transmission pan, changed the filter, added 3 bottles of Lucas Transmission Fix, 181,000 no problems. It's a 4 speed overdrive
2018 Silverado HC 31K shutter; Chevy dealer knew of torque converter problem, $970.00 filter & trans flush with mobile 1. Problem so far fixed 41K; GM reliability & quality are a thing of the past.
Get it tune asap... remove the tc lock on 1sr 2nd and 3rd.... if you ever pull it appart put a triple billet torque converter and again... GET a tune for the transmission it's a must. Add an extra transmission cooler too.. I put the mishimoto one efty expensive but I went from 100°c to max 57°c while towing. Any cooler will do just don't stay with the oem one. 2016 mine gave up at 110k km my 2nd one I manage to push it to 270k before having to open it.
Change the transmission fluid every 30k miles. Even if the manufacturer says it's a "lifetime" fluid
Carmax also means you have an excellent chance to get a former fleet vehicle, which are quite often poorly used and badly maintained.
i have a ex fleet car and can agree
my wife bought a 2015 escape. after the dealer kept messing up simple things i took over. i pulled the plug on the trans and burned liquid came out. and not much. my thoughts are that in the 81k miles that service had never been done. they told my wife they put a new motor in the car ( it failed 2 days after she brought it home) so i pulled the oil plug. also burned black and less that spec. yeah they totally put a new motor in it. i think its not always a lazy owner. sometimes its a shady big box dealer service center
I have a '94 F-150 I could have sworn was torque converter shudder because it only seemed to do it under load at certain speeds. I flushed the transmission fluid and found it was very clean. I then checked the spark plugs and they were in really bad condition. I ended up deciding to replace the wires, plugs, ignition coil and distributor, since I didnt know the history of the truck, and ever since then it runs just fine.
I like how you always start off every video judging me for a solid three seconds on everything I've done throughout the day
😂
Car with maximum damage. Carmax.
Kenny you know we are going to need a follow-up on this one to see what rest of story is. 🙂
That fly was the Carmax mascot😂
Was getting a shudder in my 89 F 250 but not right away and only when it locked up after going into third, fresh fluid, filter and a can of the trans mechanic in the can Sea Foam trans additive fixed the problem for now.
OMG loved that fly at the end. Thanks for keeping that in Kenny
Sure made me laugh
Good evening Mr Kenny, hope y'all had a good day. Great video and thank you for sharing this. Loved your pet fly, Herbie 😅 he's such a ham, lol 😂😅
That's a special fly. That fluid looks great! Thanks Kenny😊!
The fly just wanted to be in the video.....LOL
That thing wanted a piece of me in the worst way! 😂😂😂
Was that Mike Pence's fly? Funny ... lol.
Welcome to Wreckmax, I meant Carmax 😁
Unfortunately true
A lot of horror stories out there, like looked good until I washed it and then some paint came off!!!!!
Oh ya....I got a kick out of that 😆
That's a deer fly Kenny. They don't quit going after your flesh until they're dead.
Yeah, those dealerships are just *awful*. Oh! The FLY. Yeah the flies can be awful too.
@@guygordon2780 😆
It would probably be a good idea to check for TSB's on this one. We have issues with the map sensors on 2019 Edges, and when it acts up if feels exactly like a transmission problem. Once there's a few miles on them, the trans fluid is never red. I can't guarantee the map sensor is the issue, but most independent shops don't check for bulletins and they just throw a new trans in only to find out later that it just needed a map sensor.
If you don't have access, the TSB number is 19-2212, and the updated part number is AA5Z-9F479-E.
That fly just cracked me up.
Sorry Kenny but you just can't fool them circle flies ROFLMAO 😂😅😂😅😂
I agree with the carvana cars they are not worth buying had a crv come into the shop with a awd rear differential with no fluid roaring and grinding had to replace that and now having to replace the rear main seal and torque converter seal yay joys any way this isn’t the first one from this company I had to work on. Keep up the good work Kenny I do learn things from watching
He ate the fly after the video, dipped in transmission fluid.
Kenny , can you give us an update on this carmax car please. I’ve never bought from them but I always heard they had a good warranty.
Had a friend had the same problem and the dealer gave them the run around until the warranty was out and wanted to replace the converter for 3500.00 . They were able to get it fixed for a $1000. 00 by going to ford and complaining about it . Would like to know what was wrong and how much time it took to fix .
Ahd why would they do that? Dealers make a fortune off of warranty repairs. It accounts for most of their business. The last thing a dealer is going to do is send a heavy line warranty repair out the door. There's always more to the story.
Because some dealers are absolute dicks? The Ford dealers around me are all lazy arse hats that don't want to do any heavy repairs that take more then an hour.
Break rev it is called “stall speed “ in race land.
We always called it power braking.
@@jthonn 👍I remember B&M transmission torque converter instruction mentioning that term from the 1970’s.
@@Michael-yi4mc I guess I'm telling my age. LOL
That's the term I have always heard used.
The fly was trying to hint its the fly wheel rubbing on the worm gear rght near the butterfly valve 🤣😂😅
The more accurate test is to watch the torque converter solenoid command and see if once it is commanded does the car start shuttering.
It was first Ugly Duckling used car sales. An Arizona business known for bad deals. They kept getting raided by the cops and changed names for years.
From tiny crooked acorns mighty scams are grown.
Our Ford Edge trans took a dive at 80k. Took to being a outhouse fly. Very bothersome.
Carmax equals clunker. 😂
Every car I have seen from Carmax or Carvana has had damage from an accident. It's sad that more people don't ask for a pre-purchase inspection. 3 online sellers have a 5 day return policy if undisclosed damage is found after purchase. Keep wrenching 🔧
That was probably a "CARMAX" fly🤣
That ain't no McDonald's iced coffee 😂😂😂
This is why I lease every 3 years and you can get a new car
So you rent cars instead of buying a new one and taking care of it? Great financial choice!
Auto Savvy is another that makes their money selling wrecks. Might not be a salvage title but it's the closest you're gonna get.
The PTU- powertrain transfer unit for the all wheel drive is a joke. Only a few ounces used , and all that heat next to the cat converter. Mandatory change every other oil change.
WAS that even transmission fluid?
Is there a follow-up?!
Don't leave me hangin', Kenny!
ATF is Black , Show what was done at that point. I am looking forward to how you solve it.
By :08 is when I checked out as soon as I heard Ford Edge. Junk
That fluid never needs to be changed. Filled for life
Uh huh, life of the warranty
Have you ever had any dealings with any of those car warranty companies that advertise on TV such as car max or any other?
They are all scams. Really. Save the money you pay them and you will be able to afford that engine or tranny. Or whatever.
I personally purchased one after the factory warranty expired and they did everything they possibly could to deny every single claim! It's a complete scam and a waste of your money in my honest opinion!!
@@goodcitizen64 That's how they work. They will do their damndest to deny any claim. Read the fine print. But they make them sound so wonderful. If something doesn't feel right, then it probably isn't.
Again Kenny explain the importance of checking out a vehicle before one buys it. People are in too big a hurry to buy a vehicle.
LOL! I wasn't even looking for a vehicle but my last three just presented themselves (all super low mileage, trusted owners, well maintained). So, I guess that's the trick, just NOT look and when a great purchase presents itself - take it!
I have been trying to find a dependable Used Car that I like and can Afford......My Question is are there any cars out there that do not have apart after a couple of years ???
I would appreicate any input .....Thanks
I've had good luck buying luxury vehicles as they come off-lease where the lease was to an individuals in a high-income area (like Alpharetta Georgia), and the miles are low. It's not going to be the very cheapest car of that model year -- but it'll be the best.
You left us at a cliff hanger. What's the rest of the story???
Going to “Mexico “ to test drive?
Probably South Carolina, which has an infamous roadside attraction called "South of the Border" shortly after the NC/SC state line.
@@JamesKelly89 👍Zip Code?
@Michael-yi4mc I think he's near the coast not far from Myrtle Beach. South of the Border is near Dillan, SC on i95, so he's probably nowhere near that.
Have seen it with cars from jb ryder too, nothing but pieces of junk.My dad has bought the repoed vehicles bought from them
There is no reason that the diagnostics shouldn't be built into the car computer. All you should need is a bluetooth screen and mouse.
No. 😂 Car companies would never include full diagnostics because that costs more money.
@@damonhill4909 At this point its just software. If I was them I would put it in continuous scan, set up the diagnosis as an online subscription service and either let the dealers capture the work or else let the shops bid on the parts hanging.
This comment right here tells me why you need a mechanic
My brother, little Kenny, first comment is to note that Car Max is not what it once was. It is horrible now with overpriced vehicles that where once they would not even sell a vehicle that has an accident history (this can be checked by using the VIN number and getting a Car Fax (not to be confused with Car Max) or another business that will check by use of the VIN no. for not just accidents but also service history. Sadly, it has become a real crap shoot for a buyer these days, especially an ignorant buyer not having a professional pre-purchase inspection ( for those who don't know better, that is before you sign to buy the car). waiting until you have already signed to purchase the car is generally too late given that most used vehicles come with NO WARRANTY!
No disrespect to anyone reading this but 'ignorant' buyers or ones that just don't know any better often also fall into the notorious trap of paying for a service agreement as well (another moneymaker for the selling dealer) when if they had done a pre-purchase inspection that what they learn from it that they might not even buy the vehicle. Buying a brand new car is expensive but at least you have a factory warranty. I'm not recommending buying a new vehicle. I recommending that you do your research for such a major purchase decision and that's all,
Kenny, once again I find you knowledgeable, honest and always looking out for your customer's best interest. I only wish you worked within 5 miles of where I live so that I could bring any and all of my vehicles to you for inspection (including pre-purchase inspections) and service (both scheduled 'severe' service and needed actual repairs)!! You have the best RUclips channel that exists yet for the subscribers. 92.3K subscribers should be 100K subscribers if people watching will just spread the word. That's it, over an out.
Funny the fly showed up when you started talking about the warranty company. Are you sure it wasn't there to "negotiate" for the warranty company, you know, fly in the ointment kind of thing??
❤ 👍 😂 🪳
There's way too much technology in modern cars. I'm not anti-technology, but cars should just be simple and reliable.
Copart Max? Change the shutters to curtains... 😂
Obviously the owner of this car did not service the transmission. 🤦♂️. Ugh
That fly wanted to mate with you...just sayin"
This is what happens when the fluid never gets changed. Some mechanics say "never change transmission fluid". I say fluid is cheaper than metal. Fords have transmission issues. The thing is what are ya doing with the vehicle? Trading in at 80k? No need to do extra maintenance. If ya think ya are going to 200k without majior issues? Ya gotta do 3 or 4k oil changes and trans fluid at 50k max. I change my own at 30k
That's a Big Old Fly, Must Be Amish!!!!!
