    Tapered reamers and stepped drill bits are really useful.

    Very interesting video Dan! I have a couple 12V 5Ah LiFePO4 batteries I have used for various projects. The weight difference between those and SLA's is substantial. I'm surprised there aren't readily available direct wheelchair replacements for 22NF and Group 24 batteries. I know they would be expensive, but I would buy them for the weight and efficiency benefits. I think LiFePO4's are fairly safe. I guess in general it's not a good idea to think about how much energy we are sitting on top of - if you know what I mean. Thanks for digging in and posting the video.

      ive got a reddy-welder wire feed welder that runs from 2 batteries LOL just for energy capacity reference ;^)

    Damn Dan, that was as exciting as opening Tut's tomb when you were unscrewing and removing the end piece of the battery box. Big fun!

    Extrapolate !!! Do you know how long its been since I've heard anyone use that term?!!! ...It's an honor to know you Sir ! ...My guess is that PCM number is a manufacturer circuit-board part-number.
    Hint: You may be able to grab some ribbon cable from an old tower case...like a 40" long drive cable. Then split off the number of lines you need from the original ribbon.
    Those plastic connectors can usually be removed and reused. They are vampire connections into the wire. Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut the end of the cable straight and freshen it up for installing the connectors again.
    High frequency circuits can run into EMI, timing, or cross-talk problems when you lengthen ribbon cables but I doubt that applies here.
    I see the mystery tool arrived... Now when you get mad at your neighbors you can ream 'em out ! LOL

    The battery of long life. They're so much better then lead acid dry or wet cell. I really want a Bounder off road hd wheelchair . And would like the options . Before my back put me down in pain I could walk some but not just stand. I had pride wrangler scooter , got tired of getting only a year or two with there sealed batteries at $400. Plus. I tried the optima spiral wound D31 blue top and I got 6years out if a set for $250. Oh yes I did my repairs to the steering has a bicycle handle bar bearing set. I mounted real bearing blocks . No more sloppy tiller . But now I'm in a permobil 300 hd it's so slow and gets stuck on three grains of sand . Thanks for your videos

      yea optima USED to be a great alternative.. but since they're henco in mexico now, the reject rate has gone thru the roof! ive had decent success with the DEKA Intimidator deep cycle marine batteries - and also the Exide Orbital AGM batteries. good luck out there!!

    That probably is a heater, if I remember from research that these batteries won't charge below a certain temperature.

      You are so right James the VA did not want to give me a power chair with lithium batteries because of the cold weather in pinedale Wyoming, those batteries do not like cold weather but then again they don't like heat either kind of picky aren't they .

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  2 года назад

      yes! 100% correct! when its cold outside, or the bounder has been left in a cold garage, it takes a bit of time before things warm up and the chair starts preforming like it usually does

    Looking for your insight...I have a Permobil F3. Several months ago I upgraded to MK 24s, and so far have been concerned with the battery life. Now the odd thing is that it seems days that I get in my van, and lock into my EZ lock, the battery drops faster (based only on to controller's gauge). Do you think this is purely coincidence? The DME came out and checked the battery connections, and said they also seemed well balanced. Before I request different batteries, I want to be sure that is the problem. Thanks!

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  5 лет назад +1

      pretty sure thats coincidence - BUT theres a setting in the main controller for calibrating or compensating the cable resistance that fine tunes the battery gauge. thing to remember, the battery gauges on these chairs arent really accurate anyways- just by nature of how they work. they detect 'surface charge' BUT when its calibrated 'properly' your battery gauge shouldn't move at all till you've gone at least 3-5 miles. Couple other things to consider... if the batteries are BRAND NEW - it takes a few weeks of light to normal use for them to "cycle / break in" and get you maximum capacity. ALSO some MK resellers actually sell 'battery seconds' that are sub-par quality. also you could have just gotten a bad set of batteries. unfortunately, most dealers have no idea how to calibrate the battery gauges on the joysticks (usually they have to have permobil send them a new program) but if your connectors and everything are all good - id just test it out, see if ya can get 6 miles and see what the gauge does. BUT FYI MK batteries are the best ones ya can get - and are OEM specified. so assuming you didnt get a bad set - youve got the best available option! not sure if any of this helps lol but good luck!

      Totally Normal Today I travelled 3.5 miles on smooth surface, some slight uphill/downhill, probably at a consistent 75% speed, and the gauge dropped 3 bars. Concerned I may have gotten a bad batch.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  5 лет назад

      hmm yea sounds like maybe ya did get a bad set.. id try going a bit further and see if they keep dropping low or stay about 3 bars etc...

    • @stepsrmyeverest8869
      @stepsrmyeverest8869 5 лет назад

      So I tested it out more today. Same path, some uphill, some downhill...was about 25* out so I froze my butt off doing so, but went 8 miles, and am at 3 red and 1 orange bar.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  5 лет назад

      interesting... so combined with the cold.. that's not too bad! maybe it just the calibration of the battery gauge...

    they just warranty my battery pack on my three-year-old chair that has had nothing but electrical problems and they also had to replace the complete wiring harness. Mysteriously stalled out and I wasn't going to tolerate italso these batteries are $2700 US

    It blows my mind that wheelchair manufacturers don’t put water protection on their battery boxes or motors
    $60K USD, is horrifically expensive, so at that point they damm well should put protective measures, what are we supposed to do, stay at home in the rain/snow? Not go to work, not use public transportation in rough weather?
    Absolutely idiotic to not have weather protection!!

    I rebuilt my jazzy 614HD and installed a 48vdc 2.25KW Chevy volt battery which I split the connection in two to make it 25.2 volt 6s configuration so now have a battery management system hooked to it so the lithium batteries can be balanced. imgur.com/a/yVTzASe The wire you see is a dual port usb coming off the battery to charge my phone . You are more familiar with the joysticks than me can I upgrade that shark dk1 to a later one . And another question do the jazzy 614HD motors have brushes? I don’t see brush caps hard to get on the ground. I also got most of the new parts from quantum chassis that was missing the motors but I got the casters and seat which is much better than the hard one that was original. I no longer have to replace agm batteries every year

      nice work!! the 614HD has 'inline' motors.. so the brushes are likely under a cap/cover somewhere on the back.. sweet build though! love it!

    Nice videos. Do you know how to make the retractable/swing away joystick controller power? It would really help us out! There is a video showing what I’m talking about at ruclips.net/video/vXKqv5ldmgY/видео.html. Also, I would love to take the lights off old permobile M300 and put on new M3, if you need video idea.

      Howdy. That is interesting. I have never seen that powered swing away before (maybe Dan has and will have some more info). I found a more recent video here (in Spanish): ruclips.net/video/0FAjlXjV9hM/видео.html. You can try calling the company in the video in Miami and see what's the scoop . I have never heard of them myself. I'm sure Dan will have some thoughts on the lights since he has installed some on a Permobil (see this video by Dan ruclips.net/video/YJ81-R3u_Pg/видео.html ). Good luck!
