Hi Angel all you need to do is hookup your mx5 via usb to your computer you will see it on your computer like a storage device all you need to do is copy that and put it in a folder on your desktop.
does it matter what amp you put in front of it? i’m new to amps/pedals/ things of that nature, so i don’t really know what i’m doing. i’m looking into purchasing a metal IR, so is there an amp i should use in front or does it not matter?
Hi, Yes it matters which amp you put in front of the IR, the amp will give you the character and gain stage before the IR, but the IR really does a lot to the tone. If you are playing metal some of the amp models in the Headrush you should try are the PV51 which is a model of a 5150, or one of the Tread which is a model of the Mesabogie's, or the SL-100 which is a model of the soldano, or the lead 800 which is a model of the Marshall JCM 800, those will give you some good driving sounds. now for the IR's I would recommend you try some out till you find the one you like, but here is a good start check out Fuzzlord effects here is the direct link to their free Doom Metal IR Cab Pack, it is pretty great, fuzzlordeffects.com/product/doom-metal-ir-free-sample-pack/ They also have their complete metal IR package for 20$ they are really worth it. Also I would recommend checking out the Celestion IR's they are great, you can actually listen to samples on their webpage and create your own packages of the cabs you like, here is the link, www.celestionplus.com Hope you find your tone, let me know how the search goes. Rock on! ;)
I have a question Francis. Which is the best way to hone in the volumes going from one rig to another? Should I concentrate on the Out volume of each Rig so one is not much louder than the other? I'd just like to be consistent so I can get them in a song list for performing live.
Hi Michael, I tend to focus on the output volume of each rig, I try to keep it 3 bars below the peaking point. and if you jam somewhere where you need to boost or drop the volume just use the volume knob for that.
@@ThePaddedPedalroom thanks so much Francis. That's what I was thinking but wanted to confer. Your video's are very useful and everything explained well. I've downloaded some new Celestion Ir's thanks to you. Also learned how to back it up with an answer you gave someone.... Very informative.
I might be a mega geek but this video and seeing how easy it is to access all these folders and files on the MX5 is super useful! I wonder if you can even change the lockscreen PNG image with your own graphics. And Impulse Responses get me super excited too. I already reached the max of 128 IRs on the Helix. Do you know the limit of the MX5?
Hey Brother, yes you can change the lock screen with another Image, you could put your band logo or other. Here is what Headrush says about IR's, (Out the box, the HeadRush MX5 includes over 300 precision-captured impulse responses, meticulously crafted in IoSR Studios with some of the world’s most revered guitar cabs. Loading your own third-party IRs is a snap; simply hook up the MX5 to your Mac or PC via USB and drag-and-drop your choice IRs. Plus, with virtually unlimited storage for IRs with 1024 and 2048 sample lengths, MX5’s tone sculpting possibilities are virtually limitless!) So the short answer is you can put a shit ton of IR's Brother.
@@ThePaddedPedalroom holy schnitzel! The MX5 might end up on my Santa list hahah 🤘🎅🤘 I am a sucker for good multi-effects processors/amp-modellers and the Headrush has always been on my radar. Always loved the idea of having a touch screen too. But the reason for me to go for the Helix was the extensive I/O connectivity, like for instance the 2x2 Stereo FX Loop, MIDI Command Center (I use the Helix to control my Strymon Big Sky) and also the direct connection and control of my Variax guitar. For me it just made sense to stick to Line 6 gear to stay fully compatible and increase functionality of my rig. I still absolutely love the Helix, but some of these features of the Headrush MX5, its small footprint and its price is really exciting! Awesome peace of gear bro! If I already didn’t own the Helix i would definitely have jumped on this MX5 for sure! I have not reach the full limit of the Helix yet, so still sticking with that for the time being. But really fun and exciting to hear and see your sound demos and videos of the MX5. I continue to keep drooling over them in the mean time hahah 🤪
@@EdBMetal Cool brother. I understand about the stereo fx loop and midi controller, what is cool about the mx 5 is that it does have a stereo fx loop, that is one thing I did not like about the gigboard it was only a mono fx loop. and the MX5 has the midi control it comes with the midi cables also, so you can control your big sky with it. I don't know how, as I never really tried using midi, I may have to learn soon. Rock on Brother! ;)
@@ThePaddedPedalroom MIDI can be a bit daunting and confusing, but also extremely useful once you figure it out. It took me a lot of headaches too and I am still learning. But it is very much worth your time looking into it and to see how you can have your MX5 communicate with any MIDI capable gear in your studio. For instance when you have an external pedal in the FX loop that can also receive MIDI CC or program changes, you can have a preset change on your main board also send a program change to that external effect so you switch presets at the same time with a single tap of a foot switch. So in case of the Big Sky I can have any preset from my Helix send a program change to the Big Sky so it switches to a very specific reverb preset. Or use the built-in expression pedal of the Helix to send MIDI CC to your external effect so you can control parameters of the external effect. When you hook up a second expression pedal you can even have that control a different parameter as well. So again in case of my Big Sky I have the first Expression pedal control the effect Mix Level from 0-100%. And the second expression controls the delay time of the reverb from 0 - max delay time. You can do crazy stuff on the fly with that for ambient music. The many different foot switches on the Helix are fully customizable and I have them set to let me change banks and presets of the Big Sky as well, and to engage a reverb freeze and release. All this MIDI stuff is fully customizable to your needs and i feel like i barely even touched the surface yet. But this is all super handy since there are only 3 foot switches on the Big Sky itself with limited functionality, but with the Helix my Big Sky suddenly can have up to 10 programmable foot switches plus two expression pedals. So the Helix becomes an important extension of the Big Sky and vice versa. Although the Helix is huge, for me there is a big advantage to have a floor unit with that many programmable foot switches. Plus I love the small LCD ‘scribble’ screens above each footswitch which lets you name the titles/function of each switch. It might be total overkill for some, but it can be customization heaven for geeky users hahah. I would never recommend the Helix flagship for users that like to keep things simple. There are much more affordable and more suitable options for them. I think MIDI would be something fun for you to look into, and could be a cool subject for another video in the future maybe 😉
