I have watched this movie several times. Also I have seen a lot of the comments that were directed to this movie. Questions of the family who allowed the dog to leave during this movie. The releasing of the dog by the director to allow this to happen. If any of you have ever owned an actual Akita. You would understand the bond these particular dogs have with their human owners. I myself live with one such dog. She is actually my sons dog. (who happens to live with me.) Akita's are known as a one person dog. (Although they can be a family dog.) Mostly though they are really a one person dog. (Nikka) my sons Akita. Loves him so much and looks exactly like the dog Hachi, portrayed in the Richard Gere movie. These dogs have such a strong bond to one owner. (Depicted in the 2009 movie) Although my sons Akita loves me also. She is truly his dog. I would never give her up if any thing happened to my son. But, I also understand this breed of dog so much better now since she has come into our lives. Her bond with my son is so strong! I could never replace him! If I were to lose him and have to bury him I know she would escape and lay by his grave side. Which I would allow her to do. I would go to gather her up when darkness fell to be safe. However I also know she would need to be by her true masters side. We have owned German Shepard mixes, English Bulldogs, Great Danes. & a Miniature Dachshund. All of them have loved my son and I the same. How evr the Akita is so much more complicated. This movie truly represents the actual bond between a particular dog with a human owner.
