- The Mount Lemmon Scenic Byway, also known as the Mount Lemmon Drive, Catalina Highway, Sky Islands Scenic Byway or General Hitchcock Highway, is one of the most scenic drives in southeast Arizona. Starting from the northeast edge of Tucson Arizona, Mount Lemmon Drive is 27 miles, crossing portions of the Catalina Range to Mount Lemmon. As you drive up to Mount Lemmon, you will ascend more than 6,000 feet and travel through multiple different ecosystems. At the lower portions of the drive, you will see thousands of Saguaro cacti and at the top is a conifer forest. At about the halfway point of the Mount Lemmon scenic drive is Windy Point, which is a vista area with amazing 180-degree views of the valleys and mountains below. This is a great stop for getting out and exploring the rocks and boulders.
The majority of the Mount Lemmon scenic drive passes through the Coronado National Forest. There are numerous scenic overlooks, campgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails to explore along the route. Near the top of the drive, you will find the town of Summerhaven and the Cookie Cabin! Be sure to stop in at the Cookie Cabin for a giant-sized cookie or pizza. Also at the top is the Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, which is the southernmost ski area in the continental United States.

Yes it is a really nice drive with a lot of great overlooks and nice hiking trails along the way. My favorite part however - is the Cookie Cabin at the top. They are delicious!

It is a really beautiful drive with great view of the valley below. This was actually filmed last February..... I am really behind on getting my videos out! I am hoping to catch up soon. It definitely would be fun to ski there!

What a beautiful day for a scenic drive Anita, not a cloud in the sky and you can see for miles. The view from the butterfly overlook was just stunning. I love how the terrain and weather changed so much during your drive. You can't beat a delicious pizza!
The drive up Mount Lemmon is one of my favorites in this part of Arizona. We have taken this drive a few times. The cookie cabin does have both amazing pizza and cookies! Have a great week ahead.

It's really a great drive. If you make it over to Tucson, you should definitely drive up Mount Lemmon.
Just did the drive twice while visiting Tucson in the last week. I love Mt. Lemmon- so many places to pull off and view amazing scenery. The drive is a little challenging as well, with some traffic and cyclists. Very fun and highly recommend when in Tuscon.

A wonderful scenic road that I am so sad to have missed. Three times I have visited the Saguarro National Park and not noticed this brilliant possibility for a side trip. Your images are amazing and so enticing. Next time! Have a great 2022.

It really is a great drive with several scenic overlooks. And since you are in the Coronado National Forest, there are several hiking trails (although we didn't hike on this day).
