Awesome work! Loved the video and your enthusiasm for a great 911. Need to hear more of that GT3 engine noise! Real sleeper and what a finished result, basically a 997 GT3 Touring👍🏼
I really like the choices on this build, pure 997.1 looks, lowered stance, manic motor - the essence of 911. Sure, we all love the Turbo and GT3 looks, but there’s a lot to be said for the simple yet modern 911’ness that is the gen1 997.
@@genegade I have to agree. Although, for the street, pretty much any 911 handles like a dream. It takes a track to really exploit the benefits of the GT3 chassis. Either that, or some very liberal police coverage…
My buddy has a beautifully maintained e46 M3. I drove it on my favourite twisty roads and was very impressed. Then i got into my 997.1 C4S and did the same route again. The difference was so stark, I was taken aback. The M3 felt like a regular sedan by comparison. We forget just how accomplished the 911 is, aided of course by the prodigious traction (and braking) of the rear engined layout. It’s the motors that leave something to be desired. That’s why I sent my 3.8 x51 to Flat 6 Innovations for a 4.3 conversion with all the extras. Has around 500hp now and pulls like a train from 3000 rpm, with a huge setup up in torque at 3500. Proper beast now!
@@michaelbjornqvist1808At the wheels, yes that makes sense. A stock GT3 makes 415 HP at the engine. Driveline losses are around 20% (at least), which would be 332 HP at the wheels. So it’s making exactly what the spec sheet says for that engine.
Great video and editing! However, the music is a little too loud during the interviews and definitely too loud during drive-bys with the final product. It’s a GT3 swap! Let me hear it! But again. Great camera work, editing, and flow. 9/10.
Great story, awesome content, and really great production. Really enjoyed this and would be a dream setup for any 997 heart transplant. Thanks for making this, keep up the great work!

I have a 997.2 C2S and I love it but I’ve had a few LS-powered vehicles and there’s a reason that platform is so often swapped into everything - it’s compact, relatively light and you can make plenty of reliable power with them. An LS3 997 sounds just about perfect to me!

Fav video of the month... now I´m torned between buying a good carrera s or buying a high miles carrera and swap a gt3 engine... Thanks for the inspiration
I call BS because the 997 revs to 7300 and even then the ECU cuts in! No way you're getting 9600 out of a Carrera S engine. You can't even get that number from the RS engine.
@@N911GT2 Its called downshifting into the wrong gear at the wrong speed. You can force a mechanical over-rev by doing that, but typically, if you do, if you put the clutch in immediately after screwing up, the ECU cuts the fuel flow and saves you. Obviously this guy didn't, hence my question about why he is a racing instructor.
@@henryatkinson1479 but 11 seconds? If you downshift into the wrong gear it would be like slamming the brakes on, it would drop the revs to a safe level way quicker than 11 seconds.
Yep, totally different in some case. The cars look the same on the exterior. Keep the look but development beneath the skin is forever evolving between Porsche models. Great video!!
I wish I knew about you guys when I suffered an engine failure on mine in 2016. I replaced mine with a new 3.8, but I would have been down for this and likely would not have sold the car.
Respectfully disagree. Great build, great skills, great tv voice, but not enough visual tech detail and way too many close ups of headlights and door panels while so-so music plays. RUclips rated. Great build though.
In terms of labor it must have easily been 150 hours not including materials. $25k not including the engine? No idea what a GT3 engine costs but if a rebuilt M97 is over $20k then a good used Mezger must be worth at least that. A new one must be over $30k. I don’t think this project makes financial sense if you have a good 997.1 Carrera, just buy a real GT3 instead. But if you have a bad motor and a “roller” then it’s an option. Installing another M97 does not make sense as they are garbage. The owner of a large indy Porsche repair shop told me tracking any M96 and M97 Porsches is very risky. He has replaced motors in literally dozens of tracked 996/997s. Driving them on the street is risky enough lol.
This was a great video for me. I have a 2006 997 C4 and have upgraded pretty much everything to track level parts EXCEPT the drive train. With about 100K miles on the engine it was great to see what would be involved when the time comes. One thing, I didn't understand the performance metrics at the end as it sounded like I would guess my current 3.6 liter engine does with my racing exhaust and stock everything else based on published stock numbers. Is that the difference between HP at the wheels and HP that the factory reports? I am curious about cost as well and if you would be up for doing another job like this. Not sure when I will be doing it, but would love to give the job to you guys as I am sure you learned some things that might make it go faster next time (although looks like you didn't have too many unexpected hurdles). Thanks for the great video.

First of all. If this comes across as an ignorant question, forgive me. Don’t beat me up too badly. I’m assuming the ECU was changed as well. But, how was the car not throwing error messages left, right, and center? The C2S ECU would be asking “What the hell is this”? In turn, the GT3 ECU would be asking the same thing? I know that the panel cluster was changed and harness’s were replaced but, wouldn’t that begin to make this swap economically unwise? Like I said, don’t beat me up too badly!
