- Westward from mainland Norway just north of the famous Lofoten Islands, there is a remote paradise with snow white beaches, cristal clear waters, dramatic, craggy mountains and breathtaking fjords: the archipelago of Vesterålen.
I had one specific reason why I wanted to visit Vesterålen: Because of it's famous white beaches, that are said to be the most beautiful ones in Norway. So we left Lofoten Islands - not as planned with a ferry to Melbu, but over the island Hinnøya that is connected with the island Andøya of Vesterålen by road. Once I reached the Scenic Route Andøya I immediately fell in love with it's empty curvy roads stretching along the coastline, with it's rugged peaks and beautiful views. I collected blueberries and cloudberries on the way to regain the strenghts for a little hike:
To the beach Høyvika from the little town Stave.
There was not much time to lose after visiting Høyvika beach: There is a ferry from Andenes on Andøya to Gryllefjord on the island Senja - and it goes only once a day and has no prebooking! So the only chance to be able to get on the ferry is to be there early. After three hours of waiting we made it on the ferry!
The ocean around the Vesterålen islands is one of the best places in the world to spot whales. If we were lucky? Join the journey and watch this episode!

Lovely video! I grew up on Andøya, on Andenes. It's very special nature, and I'm happy to see that you took the trip!
The berries at 06:02 are "krekling" which isn't blueberries. They are called crowberries some places. But still very tasty. We ate tons of them as kids. The cloudberries are my favourite. The cloudberries weren't done yet, so they are quite sour and hard until they are done. They become orange as oranges (!!) when done. And much sweeter.
Norways Chamber of Commerce should be grateful to you for presenting their country so beautifuly.
Thanks for that compliment - they will be not so happy though that I (as the Norwegian followers told me) are not ripe cloudberries and thought that the crow berries are blueberries 😂😂😂

My ancestors are from Norway so I look forward to visiting on another deeper level. I am only a third generation American. I can trace my Norwegian Roots back almost 1000 years.
I also have ancestry from Germany that I'm just discovering from the Hessen region.
Will have to add that on my list as well.

It was so pleasant to see my favorite islands again! I usually travel on two wheels too but not on a motorcycle - on a bicycle. I visited Vesterolen and Lofotens few times for cycling and hiking and I would say that Vesterolen is much more interesting place and not so overcrowded by tourists.

and mounted on such magnificent horses and aid from Baldur and Frigga...
Embark on the drakkar of the Baltic Sea to the North Sea.
From Bergen to Lofoten, they were greeted...., white cloaks and clear waters spotted.... Sperm whales, whales and more...
Mountains with green cloaks and their cliff arms tilt am , their hands touched white sand. Odin wanted them to embark again as new demand was woven in the sky of Asgard.

I lived in Stockholm for a year (8 years in Europe) and traveled mostly to Oslo, Bergen, Narvik and even Hammerfest by air ---- but have always wanted to ride the back roads in Western Norway ---- thanks for the great videos!

Those white sandy beaches must be very popular during the warmer seasons.
It's Christmas Day, there's nothing on TV ( No change there then ). So I'm watching this fantastic trip to Nordkapp. This is light years better than anything on TV. Been to Norway 6 times, absolutely stunning country, as these videos are too. Just brilliant.

Finally got to see Lea in sunshine, in Norway, awesome! Sea sick, I struggle with the same, good to see I'am not the only one. Yet another great episode. Look forward to next episode, Switzerland. I rode the Furka pass in 2018 and was amazed of the beautiful of this country.
Ah Furka is one of my favorites too. Next year I will make a video of the furka- grimsel- sustenpass round! ☺️

I haven't managed to edit the clips yet. And probably newer will since I lack the skill you have. Long ago I uploaded my ride, the Maloja pass switzerland 2018. The nice thing with video capturing a ride, is that one afterward can watch and discover more of the nature, than when actually riding. Now , winter season is here, and soon Christmas holiday. So look forward to have time to edit some highlights or at least bring back summer and touring memories from my own video recordings.

Hallo Lea, fantastische Reise mit extrem schönen Aufnahmen. Ich fahre seit 4 Jahren jedes Jahr alleine meinen „Motorrad-Ego-Trip“ von Deutschland zum Nordkapp und kann nicht genug bekommen von Norwegen! Du beschreibst es sehr treffend, es ist überwältigend schön. Lofoten bei Sonnenschein - kann man eigentlich nicht in Worte wiedergeben. Selbst im strömenden Regen hat diese Region, wie so ziemlich alles oberhalb des Polarkreises, eine besondere und mystische Stimmung. Einfach herrlich! Super Videos, Kompliment!👍
Da hättest du mir ja mal jede Menge Tipps geben können bei so viel Nordkap Erfahrung! Und ja, ein bisschen Sonnenschein macht alles gleich viel freundlicher! ☺️

Very very nice trip, I love Norway. I did a similar journey in 2018 just the other way round with my VW bus. But beachwise I have to say you missed some absolutely stunning ones on the Lofoten e.g. Kvalvika Beach, Haukland beach and, my favorite, Uttakleiv Beach.

Yes they were on my list too - but it was still so rainy on Lofoten that I didn’t feel like beach and we decided to leave earlier as planned because the weather forecast was just so much better two islands further up. I still think we did the right decision. 😂

I am not very happy that all of you seem to know what the berries are - and I was sure they were blueberries! 😂😂😂
Blueberries grow wild all over my province in Northern Ontario. I was confused when she said blueberries too the bushes didn't look anything like them. But maybe they were blackberries or crowberries like Tord says. I've never heard of a cloudberry though!
What they refer to with cloudberry here is called “multebær» in Norwegian. And I actually think it was too early to eat them. (The reason for the taste you experienced) They weren’t ready yet.
@@dassrull true, the orange berry is a cloudberry, and until 1970 there was in Norway a law against picking them unripe!
I was thinkig that those Blueberrys couldnt be so tasty :) (Crowberrys is tasting little better after they have a few frosty nights)

I’m kidding. It’s a beautiful place to visit and I highly recommend it. Not as many people visit Vesterålen as other places in Norway so it’s not as busy.

@@Got2Go Apologies I watched an earlier video and thought that you were Swiss, hence thinking multilingual, German and French, probably Italian as well if Swiss. Another video mentioned German passport lost in the post, how could that possibly happen in Germany! The English is great, even those across the pond are likely to understand. For the seasick I lay down outside, the fresh also helps. However that sea appears to be very calm...
For me unfortunately nothing helps besides of strong medication. I even get sick of the sea is very calm - but I was very proud that I didn’t get sick on the fjords 😂😂☺️

The general voice over that I put in later I did at home with a normal microphone, the audio that is “live” when riding I record with a external small Mikrophone that I have inside my helmet and that is connected to my go pro. So it’s recorded with the go pro but not with the go pro microphone since that would be too windy!
