ARCTIC CIRCLE: A rainy ride to Mo I Rana and to Norway's Polar Circle // EPS. 6 EXPEDITION NORTH

- The Arctic, the place of midnight sun and at the same time the land where the sun never rises. The journey takes us to the frontier of the arctic kingdom, to the city Mo I Rana, to the Polar Circle and to another long ferry ride from the town Bodø to Lofoten Islands.
Finally we were starting a day without rain at Trondheimfjord! But we were not lucky for long: when reaching Nord Norge, the most northern part of Norway, the rain followed us wherever we went. After a lunchstop at Mosjøen we stayed the night in the city Mo I Rana and had Norway's best Mojito in Mo I Ranas amazing restaurant No3.
At 5:30 am we took off from Mo I Rana and drove over the Arctic Circle, visited the (closed) Arctic Circle center and then had to rush to catch the ferry to Lofoten Islands. Find out if we made it (and if I got seasick) in my Arctic Circle Episode!
// NEW EPISODE OUT EVERY THURSDAY 19:30 CET
//Join the journey from Switzerland to Nordkapp - to Europes barely inhabited places and it's last big secrets. The wild ride takes my travel partner and me 12.000 kilometres through 6 countries: Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden.
Time of the journey: July 2020 to September 2020
// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overlanding adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!
// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.
// Riding a BMW 1200 GSA (2016 model) that was kindly rented to my by a friend
//Equipped by myself (all my usual gear is still stuck in Africa and I self-bought these new items):
Klim Artemis jacket & Krios Pro helmet
BMW Motorrad Pants + gloves

Guys, thank you for all the suggestions to wear heated gear! I want to try some next spring! If you have any suggestions about brands or want to tell me what works for you drop me a comment here! Thank you! ❤️🙏🏻
And because there are so many questions: The trip was in July/August 2020 (please read the captions of the videos for more infos, most of the things you want to know can be found there :) )
My recommendations: Gerbing and Klim! They offer complete systems from collar to toes with battery connection or mobile battery packs included in the clothing. The clothing is lightweight and really warm! And you can wear each part separately, too of course, socks, gloves...
Try "Icebreaker" base layer clothing. I never got cold once
@@lovefamilies9521 I already have perfect base layers for me (can't wear merino though because I am allergic to it). But even those get to their limits if riding in temperatures below 0 for 8 hours...
@@christophmensch3945 Yes, Gerbing was recommended to me often (never heard of it before though, so it's very interesting!). Do you know if you for example get some klim heated gear works better if you already have a klim jacket because they fit better together or doesnt that matter?
I as well feel like getting something for upper body would probably already be a huge improvement - I rarely get cold on my feet with the right socks and my alpinestar toucans.
unfortunately the best fabric on your naked skin is "Pure Wool". Once you have that, the outer layers just needs to be a "windjammers".
I use exactly the same principles Ocean Racing, with Oilskins as outer layer
Hey Lea, sitting here, in my warm and cosy chair, watching your video and freeze. How can you motivate yourself, every day? It reminds me to day, in october, many years ago, when i drove my bike back home, from Berlin. More than 600 kilometres, 6-8 degrees and the half in rain. IT WAS MY WORST DAY ON BIKE! But you are still smiling!!! You both guys are really heroes. Big applause, for your achievement
Kuppes, so glad that you are not tired of all the rain yet and still follow the journey. I can only motivate myself because I know that there will
Come some sun after the rain - and then it will be amazing!!! (And that really happened! 😍)
The day smiles on the wheels of such beautiful rides...
Nobles knights are greeted countless times with rain and cold, seeking shelter in remote and cold land... Mo I Rana!
Toast with mujitos in their brief stay.
In their beautiful mounts, they are greeted countless times with blankets of snow
and rain on along journey to the Artic circle, the destination wanted them both to reach the Lofoten Islands by sea....
Tanks one more time for sharing a great and pleasant vid.
Oh wow Antonio! That’s like real poetry! Much better than my voice overs!!! 😍
Very Beautiful Place. The Roads are empty. Your Video is very Beautiful. So are You. Thanks a lot. Ride Safe.
Mesmerizing landscape and awesome riding 👍. I wait for your videos!
Great, I promise you the next one will even be better when it comes to great landscape...
@@Got2Go Eagerly waiting 😊
Hey Lea, I watched these vlogs when they first came out, and thought I’d watch them again 2 years later. They’re still v v good! Thank you for taking the time and effort to make these - they will continue to help and inspire riders like me for years to come. 🙌🏻
This excursion is a magic elixir for what ails the human spirit. And Norway has always been my favorite place on earth, closely followed by New Zealand, then, my native New England, USA. And let's not forget Bavaria! Thanks for posting. I recently subscribed with notifications and have not been disappointed in the least. It's great viewing the backlog of postings. Cheers.
Brightens up these dark days ...thanks for sharing...stay safe ...and YES..it rains .....
PS ..Ask Santa, for a heated jacket !!............cosy
I really think I should - got so many comments and tips now from people who love heated vests - maybe I should really try it!!!
@@Got2Go Yes... you will feel comfier..and ultimately safer...as you will be focused on the road, not about your cold body....stay safe !!!
You poor things, I hate the rain. How you keep so positive and film so professionally under those conditions is a mystery to me even though the scenery is so beautiful. So lucky people like you exist to show non-travellers the beautiful planet we live on. Please accept a HUGE virtual hug from me.
Paul, thank you so much! But even in rain I am so thankful that I am able to
Travel and be on a bike and that this is such a privilege! And promise: there will be a lot of sun coming soon!!!
Love from pakistan awsom videos for the lover of nature
Your videos are inspiring me to go back and ride in Norway more!
Really good video - good luck with your ride! With so many layers it looks almost easier just to sleep standing up fully clothed🤣
Me ha sorprendido las capas de ropa que llevas .? Yo hoy he salido con seis grados y tres capas con una camiseta térmica. Me están gustando mucho tus vídeos. Enhorabuena.
I was surprised by the layers of clothing you are wearing. Today I came out with six degrees and three layers with a thermal shirt. I am really liking your videos. Congratulations.
What great videos. Did much of the trip ourselves last summer, 2020. Fun to see the first part of your ride too, where you crossed the island Tysnes. Our family has had a cabin there for approx. 50 years, somI recognized the roads you travelled😀
Welcome back to Norway anytime.
That was a wet ride . You are both properly getting down the road no matter what the weather is doing I respect you both for that. Love the views on this journey thanks for sharing on RUclips it is a welcome distraction from work and covid restrictions. It makes my day 😀👌👍
Thank you Philip, great that you are traveling with us! 😍
Still loving it - thanks. And you had more layers than an onion!
Haha, yes, the onion queen 😂
Hello, so pleased I found your channel, will have some catching up to do, my name is Derek and I live in the UK, also at present very wet and cold, we saw Norway last year but by ship, ferry taking passengers in cabins , for 12 days, it was fantastic, always good to see places we visited from the saddle of your motorcycle. We to are bikers but not long haul now. Look forward to your next video, in the meantime I will backtrack to your previous videos, Stay safe and thank you. D
Hey Derek, great that you join the journey now - and I guess that seeing Norway from a ship is super exciting and beautiful too. I send you all the best to UK and hope you like all the other episodes!
All the best!
Amazing video!!! thanks for sharing with us.
I know the rain is rough on motorcyclists and cyclists, but it still doesn't change how BEAUTIFUL the country is. Thank you for sharing your journey. Safe travels and God Bless and protect you.
You keep smiling so much with all the rain. Wonderful to travel with you in these video's thank you very much. I could listen to you all day.
This was the first video where I didn’t smile as much because the rain was going a bit on my nerves - but I promise that will change soon! Great that you are joining the journey here! ☺️
Top...Top ! Love your vídeos and journey.
Thank you again for taking me with you on your journey from the comfort and warmth of my home, look forward to the next one....
Soon you will be envious that you are not there - because the weather will become lovely!!! 😍
Natural beauty all-around wow!
No need to be as cold as this. Keis Heated Apparel is fantastic. I have them in UK. They provide everything you need to plug into your battery. It's as warm as my bed. Love watching. Thanks
Really think I should try some heated gear soon - so many people suggested it! 😍
Got2Go If my Lotto comes in. I'll send you some😆
Hello,
I drove from France to North Cap last summer and I had to face 16 days of rain among 21 days during my trip but it was so great.
Thank you for sharing, you're a Riding Lady...👍👍😁🇨🇵
That takes a lot of strength, driving, filming, editing, and staying in a good mood in uncomfortable weather. Thank you and wish you a safe and safe journey and have fun. Many greetings from Germany! 👍 # 675 👍
Have to admit that the mood was only at about 50% - these two days was the coldest and wettest of the whole journey. But then we reached Lofoten (wait for the next episode next Thursday!!!) and you we knew that it was all worth it! 😍😍
Great that you are joining from Germany!!!😍
👍 OK, so next Thursday, I'm happy to be there,,,,,Vielen lieben Dank und Beste Grüße, Bleibt Gesund 👍
Thoroughly enjoyable videos in Norway presented so well Lea. You and your companion have done so well against all the elements to bring us some stunning scenery. You make me want to start biking, these modern bikes are so good. More please Lea.
Yes they are very comfortable! And why not: it’s never too late to start biking - as soon as you sit on the motorcycle it’s always perfect! ☺️
Beautiful video and narration. As always. I especially liked the un-layering. That little twirl of the second to last layer was an unexpected treat and quite cute! I am excited and watching your videos helped inspire me. I take delivery of a 2018 KTM 1090 ADV R tomorrow. She has been a garage queen for the last 2 years with only 1500 miles. Nary a scratch anywhere. She looks brand new . Nicely equipped as well. Panniers, GPS , custom seat etc. I like that the electronics are minimal in comparison to some bikes. If I like motorcycle travel maybe later I will look at a GS. After all I was born in Munchen. Grew up in Bad Tolz. Thank you for producing your wonderful videos and most of all for your inspiration! Best!
Oh that sounds like a great catch! You better take care about your new baby and finally let her roam free and explore the roads of this world with her! I am sure you will enjoy it (as long as it’s not raining too much 😂).
♥️
This reminds me of my last 2 cross country trips. 4 weeks of riding in the rain interrupted by occasional sun shine. Thank G-d for heated grips.
Absolutely beautiful/amazing scenery.
I will be watching. You can bet on that. And of course all the rest to come. Ride safe
Молодцы! Шикарное путешествие.
I’m loving your trip and hope I can experience it for myself even if it rains definitely Scotland on steroids Awesome 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏴
Thank you Gavin! ☺️
Brilliant presentation and a great ride. I really appreciate the fact that you are riding in freezing weather conditions, good luck and keep on going..
Thank you!
„EACH RAINDROP IS A KISS FROM HEAVEN". I wonder whether Hundertwasser actually travelled in Norway. I can imagine him falling in love with the place! Apart from the lack of coffee.
Haha, what a great thesis!
Now that we found the worlds best Mojito in Mo I Rana I am btw not upset because of the coffe anymore 😂😂😂.
I watch all your videos, they are great !!
Thank you! Great that you are joining the journey! 🙏🏻☺️
Très belle virée scandinave, dépaysement total, ça m'incite de plus en plus à entreprendre un tel voyage avec ma Ténéré 700...✌️. Merci.
Super !!!
Loved the journey... 😊
Absolutely brilliant. No amount of rain could damp your lyrical narrative or the spectacular scenery you’re sharing with us. Thank you for taking the time to bring us along. I’ll be getting my GS in a couple of days with hopes of retracing your journey. Could you possibly leave a link to all of your gear, safely gear included. Many thanks.
Even though the weather is bad, I can see the part where you tried to make a good video. I commend you. Fighting! From South Korean RUclipsr Woongkham.💝💝💝👍👍👍
I love how you keep the spirit up despite the crappy weather. Also big respect for your pronunciation of the town and region names in both Norway and Sweden.
Thank you very much for sharing your Nord adventure. You're shaming me. I've had my new BMW G310GS, the baby GS, for over a month and I've ridden it once because it's been too cold and wet as winter approaches, and I'm only at 38 degrees northern latitude.
Yep Lea and partner let the sunshine come out for you l see be looking forward to your next vid cheers take care fellow biker 🏍👍
Your videos are really calming in these stressful times. Thanks for helping us all relax! Much Love from Vegas.
Oh wow - this must be a especially weird time in a city like Vegas. Have been there once after riding Death Valley - and had a lot of fun I have to admit. 😂😍
What a beautiful comment section. Everyone is encouraging her and yes she really is doing an amazing job 👑 love from Norway ❤
I think so too! So happy that so many are following this journey already - and that so far no Trolls made it to this channel... 😍
verry well filming and comments. wish you had better wether. moore sun and less rain... Thanks a lot from "Djupa" in sweden.
After the Rain comes the sun ... I promise you! In the following episodes when we reach Sweden there was bright sunshine every day. 😍
And the prize for the most layers worn by a motorcyclist goes to Lea Rieck!🏆 Lofoten Islands look beautiful especially when sitting by the wood burner with a glass of wine.
Yes landscape wise it will be one of my favorite episodes (and it will as well be quite long!!!). 😁
Well done... As always👌☔❄😁
The efforts you Made , the experience YOU gave , the world you Sharing.. means a lot💚
Thank you.. keep it up
We're going to Support you all the way🙏🤗✌👏
Thank you, means a lot to me! :)
Looks amazing despite the wet and cold. I am sure it is simply stunning in the sun. Great to see your journey updates and it's giving me lots of ideas for when covid is behind us 👍🇬🇧
Episode after episode, It gets better and better 👏👏👏
See you Next week
Next week will be one of my favorite episodes - Lofoten will be amazing! 😍😍😍
Nice place👍👍
Hi Lea, great Video 🙌👏 Tks very much to you. Ride safe. Greetings from Asuncion-Py. 🤝 Jorge ✌🤙
Thank you Jorge! ☺️
After so many rainy sceneries i can't wait to see beautiful Lofoten Islands hopefully in better weather! You really made me feel like travelling with you, great job!
Me too! I already forgot how much rain we had until I started to cut all the videos - so I am very happy to show some scenery without my go pros being fully covered by water soon. 😍😂
Ok 👍 very good
I follow you from the Sultanate of Oman, from the Arab Gulf, I followed everything on your channel
Thank you! I hope I can travel Oman when COVID allows it! 😁
Awesome trip..
Thank you for real life layer tips 😁, now I can imagine, how cold the weather out there during the journey.
Cheers, take care & Stay healthy, broom broom..
This rainy travel looks really taxing . The waterfalls are the only scenery having a good day! Thanks for sharing though...
Haha, yes, guess the waterfalls loved the rain more than I!
Bravo !
Eagerly waiting for the next video ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥
That will be a good (and Long one). So many beautiful places on Lofoten! 😍
😍😍🤩
Wunderschöne Videos Lea! Tolle Erinnerungen von Norwegen!!
Danke dir! ☺️
I actually planned a road trip from Hamburg, where I live, all the way to the North Cape. Thanks for this inspiring video. I can't wait to turn on the engine of my car and just start driving northbound!
Thank you so much for this video, very interesting. I also plan to go to Norway 🇳🇴
Beautiful
You've brought me much happiness in the midst of the tightest covd lockdown in North America (Ontario). Your presentation is Excellance. Bravo
jb
good to see
Great episode again! 12 most enjoyable minutes of my life today :)
Thank you so much! And even with all the rain - I was already scared I would bore you guys...
Congrats For reaching the artic circle under this weather conditions.
Also props for making motor content in this time of year. Thanks for that Lea, stay warm and drive save.
Come on people this canal deserves more subscribers. Big thumbs up from a dutch subscriber.👍👍
Thanks so much for that nice words! And of course feel free to share the channel with fellow travelers who might like it as well! ☺️
I’m somewhat new to your channel and I’m loving how you’re documenting your travels in Norway. I would like to say, I’ll get to Norway someday. But I doubt I will. So I, like others, will have to travel Norway through the lens of your camera. Thank you this gift. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
I am sure that you can make the dream of a journey to Norway became true if that’s on top of your priority list - fingers crossed, it’s an amazing place to travel (the USA is great though either !!!). Meanwhile I am happy to provide some inspiration for your own trip!! 😁
@@Got2Go, I’ve actually thought it would be great to head north from here, Texas, and go to Prudhoe bay, Alaska. One way it’s about 4500 miles, 7242 Kilometers. Of there’s a lot of see coming and going. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸
Normally I should be on a plain today, but thanks to your amazing video I do feel like travelling a little Have safe trip and keep up the beautiful work
Great video! Buying myself a R1250 next summer, cant wait to explore like you do! Greetings from Bodø :)
My biggest respect for this beautiful bike journey!
Travel safe and enjoy the bike life out there🤜🤛
Thank you ☺️
Loved your commentary and your journey 👍
Thank you Stephen! ☺️
Even if it rain u make me like iam part of this trip. I plan to follow ur roads in jully 21 with my BMW 1250GT.
That’s a very good idea - it’s a lovely ride!!!!
good luck ! ))
Hi, i admire you and your courage
Thank you! ☺️
What incredible
Greetings since México
Windchill factor could be dangerous, but you know how to handle it. If I were you I would wear same heated gear. I had from the british Keis Apprel and they work perfectly. I laughed at your comments about rain and cold in the Norge area...😂😂 your attitude is just great. Brava! Ciao 🌻
I really think I should get some heated gear - so many people are suggesting that now here! 😍
@@Got2Go As I wrote, I use gear from Keis Heated Apparel and the look and feel like fleece.....fantastic. Stay warm...and healthy my dear. 🌻🤗
Oh! Very beautifull places! This travel is now? In december?
I fall in love with your motovloging...🖤
Buongiorno sei bravissima...
Love your videos! Music background is amazing as well. You should be featured on National Geographic channel!
Thank you for that amazing compliment! But meanwhile I am just happy if some people enjoy the journey and follow it Along. ☺️
3:25 ... Poor Lea, looking so cold !
5:00 ... oh my my! You sure deserve that feast, dear. Sluuurrrrrp
Your "Out of bed" look sure is dreamy cute .. he he heeee
It seems you both are rain gods and all the rain clouds want to be near you.
I follow with enthusiasm all of your videos. They are great and exiting. Well made. The thing I like the most is that you describe well what you you are doing and seeing. It’s not like some other riders that “just ride” and hardly anything is said. Is there an episode number 7 ? Ride safe.
There will very likely as well be an episode 15. 😂 new episode is out every Thursday at 19:30 pm CET - so 7 is today (and it’s one of my favorites so I can highly recommend watching it!!!)
Immense Love from The Republic of India 🙏🇮🇳
I really can not believe all that rain. 😣
Tuff cookie you are !
Yes, can’t believe it either...
Aweeessssooommmeeeee!! :) :) :)
Thank you!!!
Still smiling rain and more rain thats typical
I’m even singing in the rain (but will never put a recording from that here because my singing is so bad 😂😂😂)
Wao increíble tenias 6 prendas 4.45 puestas. Saludos desde Perú
Still enjoying the series! Your soundtrack is very well chosen, really suits your ‘easy’ vibe 👍🏻
Thank you!
СУПЕР ;)
Nice
Hey Lea. Stunning scenery and too much rain. What would we do without heated grips ? Thank you for sharing your journey.
I sometimes think I would die - I love heated grips so much! 😍
You’re a tough cookie. Respect
It is so nice to have you pronounce the names of the different towns for us. I'm sure Norway's tourism sector owes you a lot. 6 layers, wow, it didn't look like that at all. Good to know. Was that with a weatherproof outer layer? Thanks for another awesome episode. Cheers
The gear I wore on this trip is goretex (unlike the suit I had in the USA that is more mesh for ventilation and hot temperatures), so you don’t need an outer layer or additional rain gear because it is waterproof itself. Makes it much more easy with so much rain on and off! 😅 but I as well bought the pants on the way in Germany because I started with a thin mesh pants and realized that this would be a pain in the ass…
@@Got2Go Thanks that's good to know. I have ridden in about 4C with windchill with 2 thin layers and a weatherproof jacket. I think I'd be stewing with 6 layers. The back protector always makes my back sweat.
WOW! i passed you while driving there (im from mo i rana)
Oh hey! How great!!! Nice to see you again!
How funny to see videos on RUclips from where i live! When did you make this trip? Now there is snow on the E6. We went 2 times with the ferry this year to Lofoten. Its just stunning! New subscriber.
I put the date of video in the caption of the episode: I was there in July/august! No snow then but somehow I got a quite rainy start in Norway. But it’s really even stunning in rain! The episode that comes out today is from Lofoten - I think you might like it as you have been there yourself (or you will just end up laughing about me trying to pronounce Norwegian names right 😂😅)
Fantastic area, i used to live there :) I think you have your own way to make your movies, i like it. Regards from GSA driver :)
Hey there - yes it’s so beautiful! I wish we would not have had so much rain, it was really not inviting to discover more small places - to be honest that two days we just wanted to cover some miles and arrive as quick as possible due to the rain and cold. So I hope to come back at one point and see all of that again in sunshine 😍😁
👍👍👍
