    I've been in a 2 month slump. Fishing everyday with no luck. Started watching your videos last week and have some major improvements that led to some big fish. Wish I could post the pictures here. Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom in such a easy to understand way. You're explanations are much easier to implement than 90% of the other guys on RUclips. Also you're ideas have proven to be more effective. you are not just a pro fisherman, but a pro trainer as well. I can tell you love what you do. That's awesome!

    Great video as always. I love the fact that you mentioned that one should get a rod length that does not hit the water based on one's height. This takes the myth out of that every rod should be 7' or more. Every rod had a purpose and must fit the angler.

      Never heard that one myself but I'm not surprised, this sport is full of myths that someone somewhere asserted and others picked up on and ran with it. I use my jerkbait setup for walking baits as well- since it's the same downward rod twitch and you're trying once again to avoid hitting the water- plus they both use treble hooks so- imo the same rod works for both really well. I do like a moderate/fast action over a fast action though- you need a fast tip to work the bait crisply but, you need a moderate parabolic bend to land a treble hooked fish- so the mod/fast just seems like the perfect compromise. The same thing can be said about walking baits- you want a fast tip to making walking it easier but a moderate bend to make sure you land the fish once you hook them.

    • @austinrousee6729
      @austinrousee6729 3 года назад

      I think a lot of that comes from old timers who fished with broom sticks. You have to remember until the late 80’s early 90’ most rods had incredibly stiff tips. Because of that they Compensated by using a longer, lighter rod paired with monofilament to create more or less flex giving you the desired action. You can’t forget how much fishing has evolved over the last 30 years. I’ve fished tournaments with some old timers who won’t use anything shorter then 7” because that’s what they are accustomed too, and they pass down that dated advice to the younger guys trying to learn the sport. Personally I have no idea why, I’m 6”2 and anything over 7” adds so much more frustration and fatigue when fishing a jerk bait, especially fishing it fast.

    The mod/fast action- I know this one said fast but it looked more mod/fast to me- is important when jerkbait fishing I think- a good jerk bait rod is difficult to find. It needs a fast enough tip to work the bait crisply- but a moderate enough bend to land a bass on tiny treble hooks. If you're like me and you buy your rods on line- meaning you can't really handle them or judge the action or anything until you get them in hand- finding the right rod can get tricky. For instance ppl told me when I first started frog fishing to get a heavy, fast action rod- so I bought an Abu Garcia Vengeance- which turned out to be a pitching stick that's like fishing with a stick of pulpwood- no tip whatsoever. I couldn't walk a frog on it to save my life without any tip- so I bought a heavy action Powell Endurance- but it's no more substantial than my medium heavy rods form other makers. It's a great rod, don't get me wrong but- it's no frogging rod. It's only rated up to an ounce, I have medium heavy rods that are rated that high. I need a good, heavy rod with a nice responsive tip. If I could put the tip of the Powell onto the back bone of the Abu Garcia- now that's a froggin rod.

    Thanks

    • @guyb5333
      @guyb5333 3 года назад +1

      @TT Game reviews I thought braids was smaller diameter than most mono. Also seems it's a little lighter the monofilament. Even though both lines absorb a little water, braids seem to be more dimensionally more stable. So I wonder if maybe braids keeps the spool a little lighter and thereby reducing overruns? Really looking for a experienced answer. Thanks Guy

    • @averymills6921
      @averymills6921 3 года назад +1

      edwin’s reason (discussed in a previous video) for braid backing over mono is that braid is lighter in weight. the lighter the line on the spool, the lighter the spool is, which makes the spool spin faster and easier= longer cast

    I wanna hear your thinking on the braid backing. I've heard some folks say use braid and others say use whatever you have like what's left over of old spools, mostly I use some old mono or flouro that there isn't enough of to fish with.
