Enthusia Professional Racing and Sony's Formula 1 '05 and '06 surely deserve at least a mention. Formula 1 '06 is still one of the best F1 games out there, after it's PS3 'remaster'.
I wanted to like Enthusia, but the driving just doesn't feel right, cars understeer like crazy and not having analog throttle/brake unless you're using a wheel is downright evil.
@@KapiteinKrentebol Isn't Enthusia supposed to have the most realistic physics ever? If a car understeers like crazy I'd assume thats because thats how it really is. Having played it 80 hours I would say many cars are the opposite and oversteer like crazy it just depends on the car and whether or not you have TCS or ESC on. The Lancia Rally 037 or Stratos without TCS on will literally just spin in circles but a Ford GT with TSC and ESC will definitely understeer quite hard.
Lets be honest. The biggest jump was from 4th to 5,th generation, and from 5th to 6th. Back then trying new console was absolutely breathtaking!! It will never be so again
The biggest jump was between the SNES & MEGA Drive era to the PlayStation era. It heralded true 3D on consoles which was a revolution. TOCA, Gran Turismo and Formula 1 97 brought standards we now expect from the genre (car set up, tyre wear, changing weather conditions etc). These were totally revolutionary on PS1 and other competing consoles. The biggest jump in refinement came between PS1 and PS2, but it was a refinement, not a totally new concept. Some of the PS2 games still look fantastic, especially GT4. We're literally still playing those games (GT7, TOCA is now Grid). The odd one out is Grand Theft Auto which was 2D on PS1 but 3D from PS2 onwards and is still being played too. By the way, the MEGA Drive games look beautiful on 4K TVs. Beautiful rendering.

only annoying thing about tourist trophy and turismo is X to accelerate. The Rally games have better controls with the joysticks to Accelerate and brake. Feels so good.
@GiacomBono GT3 is the last series to use arcade handling, that's why GT3 is preferred because it's easier to control the car. while GT4 is the beginning of simcade handling, which means you need more skills to control the car.

As others have mentioned, Enthusia, Richard Bruns Rally, Ferrarri 355 Challenge, Suzuki TT Superbikes and Dirt to Daytona. Granted, much of what you would call a "sim" back then would now be labled "simcade", but especially RBR and the Superbikes games still hold up next to todays modern sims. I mean 7th gen with gran turismo 6 and 8th gen with gran turismo sport and 7 was big.
