  • This was the easiest laptop CPU upgrade I've done so far.
You can purchase the tools I use in my videos using the Amazon links below.
Arctic Silver 5 AS5-3.5G Thermal Paste

    DataVac blower

This is the powered screwdriver I use in the video. Metabo HPT Cordless Screwdriver Kit

This one I keep in my car for mobile work. It's very good and much cheaper that the iFixit kit

This is the one I have. It has the same 64bit set along with some other useful tools and a carrying case.

I think it's a great looking laptop. Good to see it become more functional.

I own one of these Laptops. I would say Windows 10 build 1909 ran pretty fast like 5-6 years ago but newer windows builds totally kill the performance. I rarely use it now and sometimes just for Window 7 legacy softwares and Linux

Even on a fairly low powered computer like this, the CPU shouldn't be running at anything like that level when the computer is idle. I'd be investigating background processes and programs in something like Process Explorer to see what's eating the CPU time.

If the CPU heat sink bolts are numbered 1 2 3 4 I would think you take them off 4-3-2-1 but put them back on 1-2-3-4.
Maybe not, I'm a computer guy but also an auto mechanic and I'm thinking of head gasket bolts!

I have a Thinkpad Edge e540 with an I7 4702MQ CPU, but Microsoft says the CPU is not supported for Windows 11, what CPU do you think I could upgrade to?

Windows 11 doesn't officially support anything older than an 8th generation Intel CPU or a 2nd generation Ryzen CPU. You can still put Windows 11 on computers that old but you need to use a program called Rufus to strip out the hardware checks from the Windows 11 installer. Do some Google searches for Rufus and Windows 11 and you'll find directions.

    Is it an old Laptop?

This laptop was pretty old. Most newer laptops don't have upgradable CPUs.
