Wow, you are finally the first person to constitute their point and needless to say i agree with you in the majority of your arguement. Thank you for sticking to the subject and not getting your emotions mixed with what you are able to afford.
Was this on regular or premium fuel? Either was the genesis is under rated stating 306 at the crank. Intake and catback exhaust puts you right at 300 whp. Thousands less the than G, and weighs a bit less too.
are we sure they arent using a 2.0 4cyl? Because the 3.8 V6 is rated for 307 (higher with premium fuel). Other testing sites like motortrend have confirmed.
I was searching the forums today and i found a thread that says these guys ran this car with mis-matched tread in front and rear and an ecu was stuck in damage mode. After a retest it put up better numbers
List of reasons why your comment fails. 1.) Its not in production 2.) its a concept 3.) its not even derived from a toyota engine, but by subaru??? 4.) The production model isn't being made till next year and will not be mass produced until 2011. 5.) Two years is a horrible amount of time to recorrect both cars.
Starting Prices: 1.) Camaro: 22,000 2.) genesis: 25,000 3.) Mustang: 20,000 4.) altima coupe: 27,000 5:) Challenger: 23,000 6:) Mitsubishi Eclipse: 20,000 Engine to Engine I wouldn't make this comparison, but price to price I will. The V6 mustang beats the I-4 Genesis coupe. You're fooled if you're thinking you're getting a great deal, mainly with the track edition. There are cars out there that allow you to drive RWD, Look nice, and still look good.
New sonata turbo.. To replace the V6 power option for the Hyundai Sonata in certain markets, Hyundai has developed a turbo powered 2.0litre engine that has direct injection and is intercooled. Hyundai says the engine will output 274 horsepower and 269 lb·ft of torque while achieving an efficiency rating of 34 mpg-US highway, beating the specs provided by the 3.3 litre Lambda V6 offered in the previous model. The new model will be badged as the 2.0T and will be availible on multiple trim levels,
But how? I have seen a stock v6 track pull 302 and 271 at UTI. Lol they had a promotion going on where you can use their dyno for free. Pulled a Hyundai Elantra at 132 and 125 or something like that. Did 3 runs.
I own one and it has never given me any problem at all. It saved me from a terrible accident and it got fixed and it is still working. Hyundai got problem before with quality, but that is part of the past time, they came from 11th in the world to 5th in less than 10 years. I cant complaint about my car, it is a 2007 Accent, and my next car is gonna be another Hyundai.
Look inside the two cars and you'll see what makes the Infiniti superior. Don't get me wrong, the Genesis is a valiant effort and definitely a step in the right direction. The next generation Genesis coupe will be a force, no doubt.
306 is engine horsepower. They lose roughly 20% throught the drivetrain. So actually just like naarleven said, these numbers sound a little high, not low
do you honestly think a little 2.0 4-banger is gonna put down 279HP to the wheels??? You never actually get the advertised HP because some power(around 15%) is lost to the drivetrain.
but all you are saying is than that the 10,000 is only for those 26 more hp. My mazdaspeed3 was 23k and a bmw 135i is $43k, but I'm 263 hp stock and the 135i is 300 hp stock. With your way of thinking than, the BMW is not worth the extra $20,000 because it only gains 37+ hp. Make sense now?
@pjce3 dude...you need to do some research...the only reason the 2.0T is putting up those numbers is b/c it's stock...small turbo...no upgraded internals....if you upgraded all the internals in a 2.0T....there's not problem in passing these hp and tq numbers
yea...i'll admit the price i said for the g37 was higher than it is...you're right...fully equipped goes for around $43,000....$42,135.00 + misc. fees....anyways...still the g37 coupe will not do 0-60 in less than 5.0 secs...the nissan 370z can do it....but unless you make the g37 lighter by A LOT...ur not getting that thing to 60 at 4.8-4.9s..handling? it's on par with the G37..real enthusiasts like the tight suspension and to feel the road...you get hell of a lot more car from the GC than G37.
dude the base 2.0T engine IS the same 4B11T engine in the evox look it up, there both the same engine but the evos is reworked alot more and the evo has a bigger turbo
@adamY2K Lol? The official hp for the infinity is 330hp torque is 260, so this car made 25 less hp and 5 less torque, while the genesis official number is 306 with torque at 266, and makes 279hp 262 torque which is about 27 hp and 4 torque less then official.... overrated HP? Not really.
the "base" model is 2.0 turbo. its obviously not as much HP as the sti or evo, but the 3.8l is, and it is only naturally aspirated. not hatin, but you probably only like the sti or evo because they've been popular for a while now. but prior to the sti or evo, subaru and mitsu were both seen as cheap car manufacturers, like hyundai is now. in my opinion, the genesis coupe is going to be up there in popularity w/ sti and evo pretty soon. its getting a lot of hype.
@92ASC once again smart guy... the 2.0 in the genesis is TURBOCHARGED!!! you obviously don't think before your comment, I see you retracted your previous comment. the genesis 2.0T puts out 210bhp...and the 3.8L V-6 (as shown in the video) puts out 306bhp...or roughly 279 to the wheels...is it sinking in yet? and who was talking about N/A engines to begin with? oh and buckwheat? just where in the states are you from?
I have some friends in south korea, and a guy i know from youtube who lives in canada and they have test driven this car. they tell me that this car is a beast. and i trust they're opinion because they own some bad ass cars (ferarri's, a lambo, supra etc). They tell me that the car has many creature comforts that you would expect in a car like a mercedes or infiniti. and they also tell me it looks much better in person. (like any car in my experience). i can't wait for it to come to Cali.
Very true but surprisingly the genesis coupe weighs 3,402lbs and an M3 weighs 3,399lbs. Plus the M3 as with all BMW's has perfect 50-50 weight distribution meaning 50% over the front wheels and 50% over the rear. PS: sounds like you had a great little car.
About to graduate school and I am thinking about getting a first "nice" car for around 18ish grand. Wondering if I should get a g37, gen coupe, bmw 2010-13 328i or 335i, or fiesta ST? Would probably get four door versions of every car besides the genny coupe. BMW electronics and interiors are horrid, hyundia's interiors are mostly cheap on base models, g37 might weight too much but love the motor, and the fiesta because I am used to 4 cly turbo's and that would give me those mpg's lol
rambow70 I would go with a g37 sedan journey with the rwd. It's the lightest of all the g, Unless where you live that require the all wheel drive then get the g37x. Gas isn't so great but when your engine sound so amazing, who cares? Lol
I'm sure you already made your purchase but I'd go with the G37 sedan 7AT. I own a '12 G37 and an '11 BMW 328i. The 328 rides smoother and gets a lot better MPG but the G37 is SO MUCH FASTER.
@Derrick021594 That's the direct power from the engine itself. The dyno can only say how much is going to the wheels. There is always 10%-20% power loss.
I want to see a dyno run with the new computer mapping that Hyundai did that cut off close to a half second on its quarter mile pass. This Genesis coupe is a really serious car and for the money I'd like someone to show me a better tuner car to build up.
SImply, if you have 40k in your pocket A) You could buy a stock mid-high end G37 = 330hp B) High end 370Z C) Supercharged 3.8 Gen Coupe D) Turboed, carbon fibre body kit, new exhaust, and etc... 2.0T R-Spec Gen coupe
+sb632 lol no a stock g37 and 370z put down around 275-280 to the wheels.. the he motor g35/350z put down around 260-265 to the wheels.. but one thing we can agree on is that it's no where near 305 whp that's for sure
gkb that 280whp range is more for the Genesis 3.8bk2 lol the g37 and 370z make more like 265-285and the 2013+ Genesis 3.8 makes 275-295whp, depending on drivetrain and vehicle condition but we can agree that yeah this dyno was generous
@nismogxe Just to let ya know, your G35 is just a re badged skyline. Infinity is the American luxury division of Nissan. Now that we have cleared that up, i bet your G35 kicks ass, would love to have one some day, but gotta go with the coupe version.
you're missing the point of what hyundai is doing. It's a rear-wheeled drive turbo which is a good base setup for an enthusiast. A civic sooped up will still be a front wheeled drive car. Not satisfying for an enthusiast looking for a rear-wheeled drive car. I'm not saying it's better than an Infiniti in any way. It's just an option for an enthusiasts.
OH!!! One more thing, my buddy ran into a genesis coupe with his G37 and walked the dude on the highway with no problems. Will be posting the vid soon!!!!
yes but it's all about weight distribution .. as with ani other cars ..but since it's lighter and has a nearly perfect distribution, it can't be worse .. i used to go lapping on weekends when i had a modified hyundai accent with coilovers, 2.0 liter swap , tiburon brakes, ksport coilovers and a good set of tires and i was able to take on my friend's porsche 944 in every corners .. why?? because the car weighted 2150lbs ..
What are you talking about... I wasn't comparing them... I was agreeing to what Smokin was saying against ilovedemip. And why would I want to compare 2 cars in totally different scale.
I think the reason why ppl think Hyundai resale is poor is because those are old models which got bad reputation. And by just judging from the numbers, they think the Hyundai must have depreciated so quickly to reach that price - but the forgot that they are so much less expensive when they are new
since a couple of years build quality is equal or superior to most japanese vehicles .. btw the handling of the gen coupe is awesome, weight distribution is just perfect and because of the lower weight, it probably outruns a M3 in terms of handling
...that IS how much power is going to the wheels!! Those engines are rated at 306HP for the Genesis and 330HP for the G37 See only 279 and 305 are actually making it to the ground!
@pARISsKATERS Yeah I know everything your saying. Well I hear Hyundai is working with ARK Performance to get some aftermarket stuff for the GC. It's even coming with a SC kit. It should make up to 450 hp with the SC and some other stuff.
Yeah, that is exactly why i don't want to drive a Hyundai (and I am Korean). But you gotta give them some credit for building up on their mechanical aspect first. Hyundai motors is an young company with not alot of experience. Rather than investing in the looks, they worked on building safe and mechanicaly sound vehicles. Now that they are almost there with both safety and performance, they will focus on designing and aerodynamics. Let's see what they do next.
I Have a G35 and it was NOWHERE near $50,000, it was $33,000, AND i'd love to see where you can get a new GT-R for $50,000 or even $70,000, ALSO, weren't you the one telling me that Infiniti and Nissan were the same things? you are tripping over your own contradictions worm
@BigSteve5467, thanks i recommend it, getting an Audi S5 soon, but keeping the G cause i love it. And yes i know, i even have the 350GT (skyline 350GT) emblems in replacement of the "g35" to pay homage to the JDM OG. I did not rebadge the whole car or replace infiniti for a few reasons... 1) that would take too much time and replacemtent parts (including changing the seats bc they have ( /\ ) on them as well) , 2. I love confusing people , 3. the 350GT emblem just looks so much better
@pARISsKATERS Infiniti claims 330hp to the crank on the G37, and it put down 305 to the wheels. Either the car is underrated or the dyno is off, and seeing as how the Genesis put down more than it should, I'd say it's the dyno.
@pARISsKATERS Based on the now 12% drivetrain losses and this video this car is making, to the crank, at least 312hp and 293 lbft torque but thats this video not the company. No manufacturer has a car above 270 lbft except Ford's Mustang is making 305 hp and 280 lbft.
hold up, where in the world did they go to a dyno to get those kind of numbers?? They must be calculating for drive train loss in those figures, because in stock form, these cars will not be putting those numbers to the wheels. No way.
i'm a nissan fan and I also like this car but just wanted you to realize that Nissan isn't really as innovative as you think; they bought the rights to the Skyline from another company and FYI Hyundai actually builds the motors that Mitsubishi puts in their Evo's...the 2.0T is just a detuned evo motor...I didn't believe it either until I heard it directly from a bunch of mechanics at the Mitsubishi dealership and had to google to confirm.
exactly right....basically, they took nissan's idea with the 240sx...a turbo 4cylinder enthusiast car with rwd for better handling. Sorry to say it, realistically, this is the only modern car if its kind, so naturally its on top. good job hyundai! :)
Yes your right about the remarks when Lexus Acura and Infinti first came out but listen to what you are saying. Nissan launched a luxury car brand which would be Infiniti, Toyota launched a luxury car brand named Lexus, and Honda launched a luxury car brand named Acura. What exactly did Hyundai Launch, this conceives my point. The car has failed just because of the fact its named Hyundai we all live in a superficial world and yes people do dwell on Brands its what makes the world go round.
in my opinion, even though the G37 has 26 more HP the Genesis is the better buy, you can add a supercharger for 4-5k and have 100+ hp more than the G37, I also think the Genesis coupe looks alot bettter than the G37. the genesis coupe just looks so aggresive when lowered, and it looks more fun, it also leaves your pockets with extra cash to mod it while the g37 cost 10k more and requires to always add premium fuel.
it's hardly about power; i'm thinking a mustang gt is about 3K cheaper than the genesis coupe but has more power and more torque...but I don't see people jumping on the mustang
@vistauploader underrated? they claim it's 305hp and you just watched it put down 279 hp. Maybe they underrated the torque cuz that was great tq. Infiniti claims 305hp and it just put that down to the wheels.
dicky you made 54 comments out of the 102 total comments for this video. You accounted for more than 50% of all the comments. I think you work for Hyundai.
I don't drive a Hyundai, but an Acura. I have to agree that Hyundai will never come close to Honda's reliability and their awesome engines, but as their reliability goes, it is above average (Above American cars).
sorry, Merc didn't create maybach but definitely marketed the car as maybach(wikipedia). Anyway all I'm saying is a brand has a value(not too low or too high). You can see Lexus is now competitve and so is Infiniti. They have the level but would ppl pay those money as nissan and Toyota? NO. It's all about making money that's the WHOLE point. If you don't understand we should end this conversation, I don't have the energy...
332 BHP and 305HP at the wheels!!!! Wow, now thats impressive.
Damn 25WHP difference...
Both sticks? Both in the same gear?
The 3.7 like the 3.5 though was very well tuned intake and exhaust from the factory yeilding VERY low gains from aftermarket exhausts or intakes, I'd like to know how the cars stack up CAI & Full exhaust to CAI & Full exhaust respectivly, I wonder if the Genesis would be able to close the gap.
True, they say it only produces 210. But that's still kinda epic. How many cars put out more than 100 hp per liter?
@vistauploader No, it was just an optimistic dyno. The G37 put down more hp than it was supposed to as well.
@wnnarace Yes, i am talking about RWHP, not net horsepower, or horsepower at the crank.
I was searching the forums today and i found a thread that says these guys ran this car with mis-matched tread in front and rear and an ecu was stuck in damage mode.
After a retest it put up better numbers
1 second around a track can lead toa huge difference on who wins or loses, because u also have to look at how the power is distributed and what not

New sonata turbo..
To replace the V6 power option for the Hyundai Sonata in certain markets, Hyundai has developed a turbo powered 2.0litre engine that has direct injection and is intercooled. disabling the vsc has been proven to bring up 20 more whp on the 3.8 model .. and the car achieved 300whp with an intake and premium fuel
Cool but what's the point of comparing these two?
but all you are saying is than that the 10,000 is only for those 26 more hp. My mazdaspeed3 was 23k and a bmw 135i is $43k, but I'm 263 hp stock and the 135i is 300 hp stock. With your way of thinking than, the BMW is not worth the extra $20,000 because it only gains 37+ hp. Make sense now?

Torque power?
dude the base 2.0T engine IS the same 4B11T engine in the evox look it up, there both the same engine but the evos is reworked alot more and the evo has a bigger turbo
not bad for the hyundai. if it could shed some weight and gain a few hp from tuners it should be pretty fun and competitive at the tracks
Not really.
I know this is hella old but you are referring to mfg's reported power from the crank but the dyno is at the wheels.

True for that extra 10,000 you could do some engine upgrades, tires and suspension upgrades . You would end up with a better looking and faster car.
how about the internals? Perhaps the Infinity is $10,000 dollars more luxurious then the Hyundai?

@youtubasoarus Infiniti doesn't cost twice as much. You can get it for low 30's. Just because you can option one out to 45+k doesn't mean anything.

if you have 40k in your pocket
A) You could buy a stock mid-high end G37 = 330hp
B) High end 370Z
C) Supercharged 3.8 Gen Coupe
D) Turboed, carbon fibre body kit, new exhaust, and etc... 2.0T R-Spec Gen coupe
Sorry but not a chance a g37 makes 300whp stock. Same on the 280whp in the genesis. That was quote a generous dyno.
It has 330 stock actually
+Madara102 yea 330hp at the motor. Which does not equal 300 at the rear tires. it'll make around 260.

I'm really liking this car. A great effort from Hyundai. It has some kinks to work out, but the value is formidable.
Since when is 3.7 bigger than 3.8?
the G37 is a 3.7V6...VQ37VHR. not 3.5

I find it hard to believe either car put down such high numbers.
Otherwise drivetrains are getting super efficient.
what was the purpose of that?
...that IS how much power is going to the wheels!! Those engines are rated at
306HP for the Genesis
and
330HP for the G37
See only 279 and 305 are actually making it to the ground!
I love confusing people , 3. the 350GT emblem just looks so much better
power to weight ratio is about the same on the two cars ..
@pARISsKATERS Infiniti claims 330hp to the crank on the G37, and it put down 305 to the wheels. Either the car is underrated or the dyno is off, and seeing as how the Genesis put down more than it should, I'd say it's the dyno.
whats wrong with the euro cars?
we just got this car to the dealership and it is amazing.
anyone who bashes this car is bias to hyundai.
And btw joshnekirk1 supercharging is not a cheap modification.
Why Edmunds got that average breaker number?...all numbers from other reviewers are close, except Edmunds number......that sounds fishy!
339 at the crank assuming 10% loss, wow eh? No way it's 10% with a driveshaft and such so let's go with 15% and wowzer.
The Genesis Coupe definitely means business. It's a great alternative for those who can't afford the G37.
Nappa: Vegeta what does the scouter say.
Vegeta: What's this the scouter says....262!!!1?
hold up, where in the world did they go to a dyno to get those kind of numbers??
why is that?
Yes your right about the remarks when Lexus Acura and Infinti first came out but listen to what you are saying. Nissan launched a luxury car brand which would be Infiniti, Toyota launched a luxury car brand named Lexus, and Honda launched a luxury car brand named Acura. What exactly did Hyundai Launch, this conceives my point. The car has failed just because of the fact its named Hyundai we all live in a superficial world and yes people do dwell on Brands its what makes the world go round.
@vistauploader Lexus 3.5 has 277 lb-ft in the IS350.
I also drive a Bugatti Veyron - "OUCH" Makes your "Viper" feel like a geo Metro.
@fd3srules welll this is 99% likely the hp at the wheel knwn as whp not engine horsepower which is bhp
wnnarace those r the same thing...
I like how there was no talking.
if u had a viper wouldn't u put a vid up of it...i no i would
@pdavid24 lol sorry the official torque for the infinity is 270, so it made 15 less torque. Guess Infinity overrated their torque more then hyundai.
in my opinion, even though the G37 has 26 more HP the Genesis is the better buy, you can add a supercharger for 4-5k and have 100+ hp more than the G37, I also think the Genesis coupe looks alot bettter than the G37. the genesis coupe just looks so aggresive when lowered, and it looks more fun, it also leaves your pockets with extra cash to mod it while the g37 cost 10k more and requires to always add premium fuel.
That the Hyundai gets similar stats while costing almost 8k less.
They both have a V6, and they are both around 35 000 - 40 000 depending on the options... What the fuck are you talking about a semi-super car?
But isn't that better then over rating?
it's hardly about power; i'm thinking a mustang gt is about 3K cheaper than the genesis coupe but has more power and more torque...but I don't see people jumping on the mustang
If you don't understand we should end this conversation, I don't have the energy...
it doesn't matter how much. they are competing in the same category.
@BaltimaVQ35 yeah but your wrong wheel drive
spoken like a true enthusiast! well said.
