How to custom fit The Batman cowl- Rubie’s version

- In this video I go over a basic custom fitting of The Batman cowl, using the Rubie's version!

This method works for other The Batman cowls as well.
I did not cut out the nose, as the integrity of the face of the cowl would change. Once the face is reinforced, I will cut the nose out.

I cut the nose piece out and put a piece of wire in it, so it'll keep shape
I cut my nose out and while I didnt do the best, the shape holds up just fine :D
I ended up cutting mine out as well and it's shape is still off unfortunately for mine. So some more modifications will have to be made. I think it's from how it formed while being shipped unfortunately.
Fortunately for me my head is already pretty big and it fits in the cowl pretty well. Drawback for my big head is that I had to cut the back opening up more for me to take it off more comfortably. I think for me I'll have to cut the top of the neck out. It pushes up on mine and gives the fat face look.

@@katobrucelee08 I plan on reinforcing the nose with craft foam (extending a bit under the cheek area) and then cutting the nose section out. Hoping it works out! lol
And have fun! The cheap eBay cowl I received was in very rough shape and almost seems like it needs more modifications than it's worth, in my opinion anyway.
@@TheRusticNerdDad ive seen a few other youtubers and it seems like QQ is vast on these masks (unsupringly). Some even seem like they're thinner than other. If it fails I'll stick with rubies for now :D
i went withy 1/2 cushion foam..worked really well..joanns has it..i cut the inner portion of the nose out and left the border

I want to try this method with my Ministry Of Masks cowl because it's too small to slip over my head but I'm scared I'm going to ruin it lmao
I have a ministry of masks cowl as well and did this modification. Glad I did, even with having a smaller head size I was able to have a much better fit.
@@TheRusticNerdDad I went ahead and did it anyways because I reallt wanted to try it on and I'm glad I did because I'm actually able to wear it now. Although it is a little tight on my face, especially my nose, but I think putting aome craft foam or something around my forehead area and my cheeks and such will make it feel and look better, I've gotta experiment a little bit

Plasti dip is VERY handy stuff. Absolutely wonderful for most latex items.
just do some fixing paint over, should be looking like decent cowl.

Very easy to follow!:) I bought the Dark Knight Rises mask off Etsy but it’s still a bit big. I’m worried if I use the foam strip method the helmet with look too big for the size of my head and will come across as very butch instead of a more feminine look. Is it possible to shrink it somehow?
A couple questions, as I may be able to help. Are you trying to continue with a Batman look or are you trying to have more of a Batgirl look (since you mentioned wanting a more feminine look). Do you know the suggested head size of the mask (example 23” or 24”) and what head size are you currently? (Can measure around head using fabric measuring tape). We’ve used foam inserts for a cowl for my wife before and it turned out ok. Just didn’t do them as thick. Just places more and more strategically. :)
Amazing video but is there any way I can fix the nose for my mask the bottom part of the nose sticks out a lot
The under part of the nose isn't there on the screen used one, so you could just cut it out. That's what I ended up doing with mine and thankfully it didn't effect the structure of the nose overall.
Where did you get that cowl from and what brand is it?
It's Rubie's brand and I got it on ebay, can be found on amazon as well
How did you put the foam in? Velcro?
The foam for filling space in the cowl, I just place in, as fitment can change simply with how long or short your hair is. But you could put Velcro in to swap different sizes/keep it in place if you wanted to. I do that with my mandalorian helmets.
I have a 24 inch head. Do you know any sellers that make that size?
Most well known makers offer 23” or 24” as those are the most common head sizes.
Where did you buy that foam ?
The foam I used inside the cowl I got from Walmart, you can also get similar foam on Amazon or Joann Fabrics 👍
How do you get the ears to stay so pointy. Mine came in from Rubie's and the ears are bent. On one ear it looks like they molded it too short so it's extra bendy lol.
Fortunately the ears on this one weren’t all bent up. But if mine had, I would look into the small wooden popsicle sticks to shape the end into and then shorten so it’s not touching my head. That way it could be glued in to support the ear. I would be hesitant to spray any kind of filler in the ear because it could bulge and not look right. Hope it makes sense/helps!

Apologies for the late reply, I didn't see a notification for your other reply comment. I just use basic craft foam which would be 2mm. You technically could use fabric as well if you wanted to sew the velcro to something for a stronger hold.
What did you use to glue the cushion foam inside the mask
Hi there, I don't glue foam pieces into my cowls/masks for a couple reasons. 1. fitment can change based on your hair style 2. can effect resale value 3. can make a big mess if they don't stay in properly.
However, if I did, I would use something similar to the super glue gel. Just would make sure that there is a slight sanding done in the spot I were to glue it first so that the glue has more bite/hold.
Ohh so you just put the foam inside the mask without glue just in case for what you said with hairstyle or what not

The cowl would fit a 24”-25” head probably as is without modifications… 23” is average adult head size and I got it to fit me decently at 22”

Can you adjust the mask to fit different sizes?
The cowl in this video fit a 24” head (or bigger) with the modifications I show being done allow it to fit smaller (as I have a 22.5” head). So yes.

Just got mine In today. Made me itchy. Maybe I’m allergic to the material. Anyone else has this problem?
Rubies cowls are typically made of latex, so you very well could have a mild allergy. You could cut the itch down by lining the mask with fabric, that way it isn’t directly touching your skin.
@@TheRusticNerdDad I’ve never had a allergic reaction to latex. I’m going to wash the cowl then line it like you said.
