I was there for the romance and slow burn, I didn’t care for the action plot at ALL but I ate that series up 😂 Similar to your friend, I hated Nox in book one but then became my fav in the final book so take that what you will. I tried reading a sample of Broken Bonds and . . . The sample alone made me so angry and I just wanted every male character we encountered so far to die a horrible death. Can't say much about the writing, but I was probably too busy being angry about everything else. Loved Daughter of the Pirate King. The series is just a really fun action/adventure popcorn read, IMO. If you like the color system magic in A Court of Blood and Bindings, I highly recommend you read The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, which is the first book in the high fantasy Lightbringer series. 😊
