so sorry to hear you've been struggling a lot recently hannah. completely understand just going through the motions mentally - i've been the same recently. sending you all the love 💛
I have Complicated Kindness on my TBR. I found it at a library sale and remembered you mentioning the author as a favorite. That jumper/sweater is SO cute. Hopefully she can get some good wear out of it. I’ve been in a pain and fatigue flare after losing my beagle (stress of his illness + grief), and my reading has not being comforting/holding my attention. Resting lots here. I inherited my mom’s card collection when she died. Haha! Mom always had a card! Hope you are having some low symptom days! 🌸
Loved your book pick-ups! The Round House was honestly gut-wrenching, my introduction to Erdrich actually! And by the family saga set in India, were you talking about The Covenant of Water? I was in the middle of that a few months ago but I set it down cause it wasn't the right time for me, but definitely want to get back into it. :) Hope you feel better, also recently had a chronic illness flare up and it was really not fun. Those changes in seasons truly hit hard and then add stress on top of it, recipe of disaster.
Yes covenant of water was Excatly what I was thinking of, I could picture the cover but not the title hah! I could see myself smashing it out on an upcoming long flight maybe? But I am equally as scared of long audio books as I am long physical books lol
A Complicated Kindness is my favourite coming of age story, it's the only Toews book that I've reread multiple times. Have you read Swing Low? I love it and found it very disturbing and it made me love Toews even more😊! The baby pullover you knitted is super cute!
Oh Im so glad you loved it too. No I haven’t, it’s very hard to find a copy of it in Amsterdam for some reason? I just have that and a boy of good breeding + flying troutmans to go 😦🤝
I just read all three of the Triptic trilogy by Eva baltasar back to back on my kindle. I think she’s an amazing writer. Thanks for the recommendation 👍. Hope you feel better soon.
I was wanting to pick up a Complicated Kindness but animal agriculture / abuse is a no-no for me- is there much description of the chicken farm in the book?
no it is more like glib jokes about the chicken factory, i think there is one description of what the conveyor belt process is like but it doesnt feature often at all
One question I have about Miriam Towes is does she write about anything else other than Mennonites? I've read Women Talking and Fight Night but i do find that an offputting theme in her work.. I didnt mind in Women Talking as it was a plot but I personally find it a bit boring and so can't motivate myself to pick up anything else by her. PS i think that long book you were thinking of may have been Shantaram..havent read it but i hear its long af
It is considered rude to ask strangers about their mobility aids yes but as I make content talking about chronic illness you can assume I use one for my multiple illnesses which cause chronic pain, joint and mobility issues
love your knitwear creations! the hat with the blue stripe is phenomenal, such a simple idea, but gives so much character
Thank you !! It’s such a wonderful hobby 🤗
That little jumper is so sweet. The green is gorgeous.

No I would say it’s a main thematic pattern in her work based on her life experiences
Not sure if it’s rude to ask, but what is your wheelchair for?
It is considered rude to ask strangers about their mobility aids yes but as I make content talking about chronic illness you can assume I use one for my multiple illnesses which cause chronic pain, joint and mobility issues
