Now the player you have is a 1080i player, and is not a 1080p unit. The players that have 1080p/24fps are the Toshiba HD-A20, HD-A30, HD-XA2 (awesome player with HQV) and HD-A35. Unfortunately some of my Warner collection has started to go bad and they are erroring out on Toshiba units, but can still play on my LG BH200 combo player and Samsung BD-UP5000 combo unit as well. If you're going to collect hd-dvds DO NOT buy Warner Brothers discs. Tempting when you see them on Ebay for a few bucks but don't waste your money. 8k home video isn’t a thing in reality and 4k Ultra HD is a niche format that only has a few films published. Blu-ray is the best compromise of them all because it has many films, in HD, and is the most durable of those. The most cost effective.
You can still update via LAN output that ALL HD DVD players have. The link for Toshiba players is still active I believe. I have update discs for every player Toshiba has made either way and 4.0 was latest firmware. The LG BH200 combo player update is still active as well as Samsung BD-UP5000 combo player. If you have a toshiba hddvd player from those years e1 ep10 ep30 and maybe some more from that time you can get the optical dvdrom out (its a ide pc dvdrom) Toshiba SD-H802A (they were also in xbox in those years i believe but i'm not sure if they also work the same way maybe they did something extra to it ) buy an ide to usb adapter the 3 dollar black ones with also a sata input on the side ruclips.net/video/GQbyLRKIPmY/видео.html mine had silver wire but this type comes with black or silver wire connect the ide adapter etc and connect a power molex from your pc to the tos dvdrom molex input for power and instal program make mkv on your pc Goes slow because those drives only is 2x speed.
Yes it's possible. MakeMKV supports ripping HD DVD movies, I've used that to back up my own collection a few years ago. You will need an HD DVD drive of some sort to connect to a PC however, and that might be the trickiest part. The Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on will work, that's probably your best bet. I myself used an LG Super Multi-Blue combo drive that can read both Blu-ray discs and HD DVD discs.

I hope you have thrown Shrek the Turd away since. Such a disappointment. Having purchased that on a format that went obsolete would be a blessing in disguise. I hate it SOOO much.
i chose HD DVD. It was actually the better format, but Sony not wanting to lose another format war (Beta Max was the better format for tape, but Sony charged too much to use Beta) decided to forgo royalty charges to the movie studios to produce movies on Blu-Ray, and Toshiba did not. I have 2 of the 3 Blu-Ray\HD DVD players and 2 stand alone HD DVD players an early 1080i and a later 1080p Toshiba. HD DVD should have won but such as life.
HD-DVD was not better than Blu-ray. Overall Blu-ray was the more future proof format in storage space and improvement. Also Betamax was not superior to VHS, there wasn’t much difference in video quality, it was always behind in recording time and had an unnecessarily complex tape threading system in the players. None of these technical aspects actually contributed to their format wars.

@@atrio1136 but that isn't what your original comment implied at all and not only that but you spoke in present tense... HD-DVD was at a disadvantage due to smaller storage on their discs as such Blu-ray had more room for a higher bitrate as well as much better audio.
Dude, you know nothing about what you are talking about!!!! I bought both formats when they came out in 2006, and I experienced everything!!!!
Just bought 360 hddvd with 60 movies
I bootleg almost every bluray I buy into a HD-DVD complaint disc. Its on a dual layer dvd but it still looks better than dvd. Just for fun
I dont get why today are still being made dvd and not hd dvds if it coud store more gbs
Because why would they publish on HD-DVD when they can do it on Blu-ray?
Founded in 2006
Discontinued: 2008
Check your audio levels, I can barely hear your video, works fine on all other RUclips videos (don't tell me to turn up my volume)
But why though?
HD DVD Does Not Supported on XBOX 360 HD VIDEO ANYMORE
Yes it does. It's leggy as fuck.
Мой HD-DVD E1KR2 НЕ играет(no play) диски worner.bros, a universal studio играет (play)??????
What is it with Americans and having such a hard time with “an” and “a”.
I'm American I have no problems with it
@@nutt_8364 It must be a difference between the two languages as for me its: "an apple", "a banana", "an elephant", "a HD DVD player"
Meh.. I realise now this is pissing me off way more than it should :P
Use “A” before a word that starts with a consonant SOUND and use “AN” before a word with a vowel SOUND, “AN” HD DVD player would be correct... here anyways, how were you taught?
Enjoy your disc rot!
great video except that the audio sucks.
The unfortunate thing about HD-DVD is that most of my disc no longer even play. Most of them Warner Bros discs.
What happened?
@@johnmurphy7674 Disc rot- same thing on laserdisc..
@@nrg16108 yea I was always afraid to play a movie back in the day and renting ones from Movie gallery was always a risk because the would stop and freeze almost all the time at some point it was horrible I had a fist gen RCA with thoshiba firmware and a Toshiba A2 I think I also had a second gen Samsung blu ray player and some time it would take 5 mins to start but it did play moves all the way threw
That doesnt happen to blu ray does it?
@@Yeomannn It's not common for it to happen on Blu Ray, but technically any kind of optical disc media it could happen to.
Hd dvd died out in 2008.
I think hd-dvd titles better than bluray titles
hd-dvd have more clear, more colorful picture than bluray so I like hd-dvd
Not at all.
@@OptimusV I bought a HD DVD player a few years ago, because at the time the HD DVD version was better on some films such as The Thing, Apollo 13 and Terminator 2. When compared to the Blu ray released at the same time, the HD DVD was better.
@@atrio1136 but that isn't what your original comment implied at all and not only that but you spoke in present tense... HD-DVD was at a disadvantage due to smaller storage on their discs as such Blu-ray had more room for a higher bitrate as well as much better audio.
@@OptimusV My original comment?
@@atrio1136 oh shit my bad, I thought you were the guy that made the original comment 1 year ago, sorry dude...
You need to at least watch transformers revenge of the fallen or transformers dark of the Moon they're awesome
Born identity.....suck. I got 7 copies. No one will take them.
Halp
I hate the bourne movies🚮
Dude, you know nothing about what you are talking about!!!! I bought both formats when they came out in 2006, and I experienced everything!!!! The discs with the 'no artwork" you are describing were called Combo Format, one side regular DVD, the other HD-DVD, but there were not as many of them!!!! I still have my 2 players, and all my discs, and treasure them. There was no quality difference, 1080p is 1080p!!! Anyway, you're amazement with HD-DVD is ridiculous; All it was, was the rival to Blu-Ray. I had both because I was greedy and wanted all my movies in HD, that's all. Yes, Blu-Ray was better, but only due to technical reasons. The films look exactly the same in both HD-DVD & Blu-Ray Disc formats!!!
Calm down!!!
It’s not that serious dude!!!
HDDVD a failure on arrival.
