Captain here: When filming, one of the metals got tangled so she couldnt release her self, she was actually about to drown until she started to point to the director to press the button (emergency) to let go off the chains. Everyone in the meantime kept acting and they thought it was part of the act. Isla manage to get away safely, but the director decided to keep the failed act in the movie since it was more genuine.
Isla Fisher almost died filming this stunt. The crew had to push a button she couldn't reach in the box to get her out in the time. It was the scariest thing experience in her career😨😲

I always felt like her expressions and actions seemed real far beyond acting, never knew she was actually drowning. Thankful she turned out safe
The fact Isla Fisher actually almost drowned during this scene just makes me believe she is a pretty convincing actor.

I love how she really is drowning, the response from the extras is genuine. They are confused and do not know whether she is actually in trouble or not, nor what to do. Everything turned out fine, and they did the right thing by adding this little slice of reality to the movie instead of reshooting it according to the script.
Isla Fisher was actually drowning while filming this scene and she couldn't reach the panic button, the film directors thought she was acting so she almost died.
