I’m in the hospital right now, experiencing some of the worst pain I’ve felt. This made my day so much better. I literally can’t stop smiling. So excited. I was just thinking of relistening to the other mouth albums.
I know it’s been months, but I can’t get over the perfection of this trailer. The way we see Neil slowly fade out of the darkness, seemingly asleep, and then as the beat drops and the title is revealed, we see that his eyes are wide open… it gives me chills.
I wanna briefly talk about the mashup itself and how goddamn unnerving/horror-tinged it is. The original Dream On is so adversarial with Tyler's delivery being super rebellious, but Billie Joe just crooning and slurring over the instrumental, with the minor vocal harmonies and terrible imagery like "my mouth is laughing in my face" or "a crooked spine / a crooked mouth", is just downright spooky. I hope this edge-of-sleepiness unnerving carries through, but I'm not so sure it will.

You can see the advancements made already! First mouth album the glasses are under his eyes, the second (and third) they are directly in front. This time they are on his forehead. This signifies the view of NC that his literal lenses, representing an objective view of the world, are above his eyes, representing a subjective view. Although from his perspective the objective view stands above his subjective interpretation of it, this album shows them being on equal footing. Neils dreams will become a new reality.... as will his mouth.

I listened to it all the way through and actually got upset it was “only” an hour. I don’t know if you set out to redefine mashups/samplermusic/plunderphonics/remixing but this is really an achievement. A high water mark. A fun and funny and weirdly profound experience. It’s a brilliant recontextualization of the source material, wether it’s corporate/commercial cues and jingles or the complete asinine brilliance of Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer juxtaposed with Limp Bizkit’s “Nookie”. My big takeaway was I like how you play with familiarity and expectation, like in the partridge family track. After an 8 count on that harpsichord you need David Partridge to hit “hello world there’s a song that we’re playing” or certain people will regress to primate form and smash their fork down on the dinner table, hollering and hucking feces. It’s making my brain hurt, like I smoked too much pot. In fitness programs they use a term “muscular confusion” to thoroughly exercise all aspects of the muscle. I have to imagine something similar is happening. The music is firing down those well trodden neural paths but can’t comfortably fit in the same lane. In combining the disparate elements here, you’ve made music that cannot peacefully coexist with it’s source materials. I guess if I had to review it in one terrible simile, “Like having a calm walk down your hallway in the dark and stepping in a puddle of ecstasy, glitter and raspberry flavored lube: you know someone had a phenomenal time right in this very spot and now you have to figure out who made the mess. Not to clean it up, but to find out what you have to do to make that mess for yourself.

A ray of light in the cloudy storm of 2020
You can see the advancements made already! First mouth album the glasses are under his eyes, the second (and third) they are directly in front. This time they are on his forehead. This signifies the view of NC that his literal lenses, representing an objective view of the world, are above his eyes, representing a subjective view. Although from his perspective the objective view stands above his subjective interpretation of it, this album shows them being on equal footing. Neils dreams will become a new reality.... as will his mouth.

This is a great teaser, love the design. It feels like a Stephen King book cover or the poster to an 80's sci-fi/fantasy movie that's only available on VHS. Excited to hear the new songs!
I remember meeting Neil at Nerdcon. He was a cool guy and gave me a pin of himself when I recognized him. Sometimes I look at that pin longingly. Needless to say, my body has never been more ready.

I listened to it all the way through and actually got upset it was “only” an hour. I don’t know if you set out to redefine mashups/samplermusic/plunderphonics/remixing but this is really an achievement. A high water mark. A fun and funny and weirdly profound experience. It’s a brilliant recontextualization of the source material, wether it’s corporate/commercial cues and jingles or the complete asinine brilliance of Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer juxtaposed with Limp Bizkit’s “Nookie”.
My big takeaway was I like how you play with familiarity and expectation, like in the partridge family track. After an 8 count on that harpsichord you need David Partridge to hit “hello world there’s a song that we’re playing” or certain people will regress to primate form and smash their fork down on the dinner table, hollering and hucking feces.
It’s making my brain hurt, like I smoked too much pot. In fitness programs they use a term “muscular confusion” to thoroughly exercise all aspects of the muscle. I have to imagine something similar is happening. The music is firing down those well trodden neural paths but can’t comfortably fit in the same lane. In combining the disparate elements here, you’ve made music that cannot peacefully coexist with it’s source materials. I guess if I had to review it in one terrible simile, “Like having a calm walk down your hallway in the dark and stepping in a puddle of ecstasy, glitter and raspberry flavored lube: you know someone had a phenomenal time right in this very spot and now you have to figure out who made the mess. Not to clean it up, but to find out what you have to do to make that mess for yourself.

I was zooming into the album cover looking for the hidden shrek and found Ewoks in his glasses, but I didn’t realize that his eyes were open, so when I saw them bore into my soul it scared the shout outta me. So excited for this new album!!!!!
